1.3 ohm coil cotten wick
at 8 watts it sputters a lot and I get a harsh almost pepper like hit that burns the throat and mouth. not the nic hit but like inhaling smoke from burnt paper
at 11 watts less sputtering and a nice smooth hit lots of nic hit but no scratchy throat feeling.
happens mostly with the high pg juice but not always.

my guess is it was not hot enough to turn it into cloud. I figure the sputtering was just filling the chamber with tiny drops of hot juice.

am I right?

if so it just means I will go through more batteries a day but thats ok as long as it taste good.

Seems you're looking at the reason vaping is so difficult to find a perfect balance. What you surmised as far as not vaporizing the eliquid fast enough may be very true. The spitting you describe sounds like the coil is getting a bit flooded with too much liquid, or possibly not enough air flow. Depends on what type and model of topper you're using (you didn't mention...:))

The perfect vape is a balance between enough eliquid, enough heat and enough air flow to cool down the heat of the coil. If any one is out of balance, you can get spitting, dry hits, burnt taste, hot liquid hitting your tongue, off tastes, no taste, etc....

I think i figured it out. Over saturation. I have my kayfun in drip mode and could see the juice boiling off the coil. Figured the thin juice was wicking too fast and was cooling the coil which went away when i turned up the power. Rewicked but this time cut the wick off about 2 mm past the coil on one side so only the other side extended to the deck. Turned down to 8 watts and it vapes nice now. No crackling sputtering or pops. Just a nice gentile hiss and no scratchy throat hit.
