I used 26 gauge kanthal A1 wrapped 10 times around a 1/16 drill bit. cotton wick. it is a duel coil build on patriot. I do not have a ohm meter and wanna be sure its safe. thanks!

Hard to say...

More important to disclose would be the type of battery you have than the rda used, because that determines how low you can go safely. And to be completely honest you should get an ohm reader, the one I have was only 10 bucks. Here's a helpful chart to keep: http://vineyardvapes.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/4jeiawz-e1388383058663.png

NEVER BUILD BLIND!!!!!!!
your build may look safe but short out somewhere you don't see. doing this is asking for trouble. please put the rebuildables away until you get a meter. You're risking not only your own teeth, but threatening vapers everywhere. If you hurt yourself, its may be just the ammo they need to ban everything but big tobacco controlled cig alikes.

Might you have a warning sign to a short? sorry to ask and i do take your advice strongly. I just would like to know if there is a warning that i should look for? I been building this RDA for 2-3 months without a meter and never had an issue yet. My coils are always tight and clean looking with no long legs. I check that it is heating from center out and even also, then use tools to pinch and repeat until looks perfect

My guess would be that I'd want at least a 30 amp capable battery, but would be more comfortable using my 50 amp batteries to test fire. But if it was me, well I would know exactly how many ohms the build was within .005 ohms, because that's what my ohm meter is accurate to.

If one does not have an ohm meter to measure one's build, that one has no business building.

Ok, there are calculators to tell you what ohm coil your technically going to build, but unfortunately new coil builders like myself will get a different reading then what is technically going to be correct do to improper building techniques. Sometimes if you spread the coil to make it longer, the resistance will be different than when it is pushed together real tight. Even if someone told you what the answer would be to your question, it would not be right. Depending on how your coil is built, only a machine can tell you exactly what the ohms are.. the difference can be as much as 1.0 ohm. Sorry :(

A basic ohm reader like one I bought at RTD Vapor costs under $10. Been using for almost 2 years, found batteries locally when the initial one died.

No excuse not to have an ohm reader, if you are building coils you MUST BUY ONE so that you know what you are doin'.

No one can give you the answer you seek. The ONLY way to know the ohm of your coil is for you to MEASURE it. Get an ohm reader or digital multimeter. It is the single most important piece of gear to have if you are building your own coils. To make a coil and not know the final resistance is reckless and stupid. Presently you have no business doing rebuildables until you get an ohm reader.

Use the Ohm's Law Calculator. The current drawn from the coil should not exceed the amp rating of your battery.

Do you know the amp limit of your battery?

Answer: 0.6 ohms
Calculator be sure, when your using this calc, I noticed when you select wire guage, go 2 guages higher than what your using. I have found this calculator to be inaccurate in that sense. for example, your using a 26 guage, select 28 guage wire. also, "Outside Diameter of the Coil" is going to be your drillbit size.

Edit: to restate my last post, you wont know the actual ohms due to imperfections of coil building. That is why you need the ohms reader. Besides, a 0.6 ohm coil is a bit too low in ohms to be vaping nicely on.. would get too hot too fast and could potentially blow up an unregulated device and in that aspect, its dangerous. Just had to state this before I get a bunch of hate comments from everyone.

Thanks for that, you are pretty much the only one who did not have some .... thing to say. I obviously know i don't have a meter by my posting, yet everyone said the same thing. I am careful and research a lot for the most part before i build anything. I always make sure my coils are even, tight, heat from in to out and completely in sync, and that nothing heats up hot. I have a general idea of the ohm before hand but i figured maybe someone built this type before being that the drill bit and the wire are very common. I genuinely am thankful for your post.

The only warning side happens much to quickly and is rather painful. If there was a simple thing to look out for before damage is done, there wouldnt be so many suggestions to get an ohm meter. I value my hands, face and teeth and use an ohm reader. Its 10 bucks well spent.

I am using sony 18650 3.7 2100mah> whats safe for these batteries assuming no shorts? I have been vaping this build for over an hour or so non stop so far. Not heating up to much or anything

This is not enough info to tell you anything about these batteries. It should say something on them like "us18650vtc4"
