I know it is ok to leave a 510 battery in the PCC and it will turn off the charge to the battery when it gets "topped off", but what about the case its self? Is it ok to leave it hooked up? or should it be unplugged as soon as the light turns green?

Most chargers have a built in circuit that prevents overcharging. I've had the PCC hooked up overnight. But disconnected it once it's charged. It will hold the charge well, Unless it sits for days unused. I suppose it's always safer to unplug even though the danger is quite low.
