I am thinking this is because of the PG, which has antibacterial properties. Our mouth is just like the rest of our body, it is inhabited by bacteria and stuff and there's a balance to it, it's basically a sort of ecosystem. The PG we put in there all day long probably breaks that balance. I've read reports of heavy vapers developping fungus/candida in their mouth.

I had most of that stuff on and off the first 5-6 months of vaping and I just chalked it up to toxins leaving my body from cigs. I drink a lot of water and have been taking Ester C for 20+ years which probably helped in keeping the symptoms down to a dull roar for the most part.
Zits at 51-52 years of age?!?! Yeah, now that was weird! I didn't even get those when I was a teenager!

Actually, canker sores (along with acne and a myriad of other "lovely" inconveniences) can also be attributed to the changes your body is going through after quitting smoking.

Look this over. It's very informative.

I fully agree.
I also had some canker sores after I switched to vaping.
In Germany, canker sores are often reported as a side effect of smoking cessation. Also in smoking cessation forums.
I found this page in English What are canker sores? And what arent they? - Registered Dental Hygienist

On the other hand, smoking seems to be protective, probably due to increased keratinization of the mucosa.

In the German vapers forum, we consider canker sores an unpleasant side effect of smoking cessation. And they do go away after a while, thankfully.

Canker sores are small shallow ulcers that appear in the mouth and often make eating and talking uncomfortable. There are two types of canker sores:

Simple canker sores. These may appear three or four times a year and last up to a week. They typically occur in people between 10 and 20 years of age.
Complex canker sores. These are less common and occur more often in people who have previously had them.
http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/canker-sores

Some cases of complex canker sores are caused by an underlying health condition, such as an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin B-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency; and gastrointestinal tract disease, such as Celiac disease and Crohn's disease.

When you stop smoking, not only your mind but your body goes to War. It does not like change and you have created an expectation over years. As the toxins are Purged the body will settle back into a routine. However those Toxins can cause some grief on the way out.

Some people are allergic to certain e-liquids or componants<PG / VG / Flavoring (We all already ingested Nic)>. None of those items hhave been otherwise linked to any health issues and are used in a wide variety of items in daily use/consumption.

I'd actually be careful of what's in the juice if you get canker sores - one brand of juice out there gave me canker sores and a throat infection. It also may be burning wicks and stuff like that. I've never had a bad reaction with Blu and they use VG Johnson's Creek.

For me personally, it was a balancing act. I started with very high PG and got acne and canker sores. Someone here suggested trying VG based liquids. The canker sores and acne quickly disappeared, but I then got 'heavy lung", basically a feeling of water in my respiratory system. I moved to 50/50 and now I get neither.
