EHRMEHGERD!!!!! I just looked at your link @The Yeti. That sounds absolutely HORRID!

BUT, if your friend tends toward it - so be it.... One day at a time :)

I missed that link the first time, all I could think of when I read it is that taste when you accidentally grab a drink someone has put a cigarette out in and taking a big ol' swig without knowing. Blech!!!!!

Agree with all the above. If your friend isn't ready, then you aren't really helping her, you're harassing her. Pressure to quit can be counterproductive IN THE EXTREME -- if someone had told me, "here's an e-cig, you have to stop smoking"... I'd have instructed them into which orifice to insert that e-cig.

Getting started with vaping is hard even when you really want to -- it takes real determination to deal with all the different variables that can go wrong -- hardware, ejuice, sensitivity to one or more ingredients, making it wick correctly, etc etc etc; someone who's not interested in giving up cigarettes is NOT going to be determined enough to stick with it.

You've given her the tools. Now if you're really her friend, you'll shut up and let her figure out if she wants to use them or not.

Just to be clear, she originally came to me and asked about vape gear (about 2 years ago) and has repeatedly asked me for advice on gear/juice ever since. I don't confront smokers and tell them they should be vaping instead....I agree, that would be out of line for sure.

Just over 2 weeks ago, I was a hardcore smoker of 15 years and every year for the past 6+ years, I have been saying I am going t quite. Right now all I have is a crappy Juice and I still have not caved in. If I could stop smoking cigs by Vaping, I feel anyone can!

That last sentence is wrong, wrong, wrong. My mom said "if I could stop smoking using the patch, anyone can!" and others say "if I can stop cold turkey, anyone can!"

The fact is that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. Just because something works for YOU, means nothing to anyone else.

I quit drinking by going to AA meetings and drinking ice-cold V8 juice instead of beer. So it should work for everyone, right?

Not even close.

Page 2 last post by Yeti, last paragraph, the word "this" highlighted in red.

Ah, ok... I actually bought some of that. It was too sweet, to me; tasted like maple syrup. Now, I'm sure it would taste exactly like its name, but as a smoker trying to get into vaping... nah, too sweet. The cigs I smoked weren't sweet AT ALL -- in fact, to me, MARLBOROS were too sweet! They tasted like chocolate to me. I smoked VA Slims for 30+ years, and before that, Winstons -- neither is sweet AT ALL.

I quit by using MFS' "Virginia", their regular PG blend. Sweeter than my cigarettes, but a very similar flavor nevertheless. Now I can't abide it. :D

true, but there has never been something akin to smoking cigarettes like theres is to vaping.
drinking, drugs are in a different category, there is nothing to replace those addictions, well not w/adverse side effects.

vaping can totally replace smoking, but one needs to find the right setup for them, there are hundreds of different juices combined w/hundreds of different hardware = thousands of different combinations.
theres never been anything like this b4 where to replace one thing, cigarettes, there are a thousand possible replacements for it.
you cant just say i tried vaping but it didnt work for me. thats like saying a tried 1 pair of shoes, they werent comfortable so i dont like all shoes.
the person just needs to try different setups, but thats the question, are they willing.

help them as much as u can, buy different juices for them to try out, best bet is cig flavors

My oldest, dearest friend called me in February and old me she wanted to quit because her oldest daughter is pregnant. She doesn't want to expose her new grandchild to smoking. Apparently she had promised her daughter she would quit when she became pregnant. Immediately I told her she has to want to quit for herself, not her daughter and grandchild.

Well, I took her several setups and juice to try to find out what she liked, got her set up and 3.5 months later she hasn't quit.

I'm nearly certain its because she feels forced to quit, rather than it being what she wanted to do. For me, it was a decision I made for myself, not for other people.

Anyone I "tried" to help to start vaping, failed. Conversely, anybody who asked me HOW to quit smoking and start vaping was successful.

The desire to change lifestyle and improve health has to come from the person ...... same thing with losing weight, etc.

I was showing somebody who wanted to lose weight and said they don't have time to put meals together that the salads at McDonalds is the *perfect* portion size....in every way, it really is.

I knew the problem was going to be over my head when she said: "I would have to eat 4 of those to be satiated".

Some people need a program, and/or counselling, to get on track with their *appetites*. That's not something you can change in a person overnight by handing them a vape kit, or in the case of food, a menu for the day.

You are correct, Racehorse. Now we are 4 months in, and she hasn't quit. She told me last week she only likes the juice I gave her, but got tired of it. I said we all buy juice we don't like. I had her go on NT due to the sale and buy Virus and Band Camp since she liked them when she tried my stuff. I also had her buy one in 18mg. I first told her to start with18, but she insisted 12 was right since she smokes lights. She told me that again, and I said, "Well, you've had 12 for 4 months, and haven't quit. Obviously, its not working for you."

I really disagree with that. ;)

The ability of flavorings to approximate the taste of a cigarette is very hit and miss.

That was how I failed vaping the first 2 weeks in 2012.
i didnt say all cig flavors made by xyz company are good or are going to work for certain individuals.
so if someone cant quit smoking ur saying they shouldnt bother trying to find a tobacco flavor to help them quit.
it took me a few days, lots of testing, to find my tobacco flavor, once found i was able to quit analogues.
after a short time i didnt need tobacco flavors anymore as i now just vape juice flavors.
not all similiar flavors made by companies are the same, some are good, some are crap, and then it depends on the individual taste buds/likes, then theres nic level and i wont get into net's.

And it can't be done quickly, in a case like that -- they've been overeating so drastically for so long, their stomach is stretched... it takes a good while of just-slightly-smaller portions, decreasing it a little every week or so, to get it back to a more normal size.

completely agree! I heard all that crap too, about how vaping is never going to taste like smoking. That's true, but you can find a *similar flavor* if you really look for it -- I did! MFS' "Virginia" was just perfect my 30+ yrs of smoking VA slims!
