Cant Quit the Damned Analogs

A bit about myself. I started chewing tobacco in college. Hated that after awhile and started to smoke to stop chewing. I knew that would work as I hated smoking - absolutely could not stand it. Flash forward 14 years and I am now a 1.5-2 PAD smoker.

Recently I had to go on a long car trip and could not stand the thought of having to go 14hrs without my American Spirits. I ran across the e cigs and almost bought one with the "only pay S&H". Right after i put in my CC I ran across this Forum - the thread I found was the one about the Shipping and Handling scams! I closed my CC and got a new one. I was convinced that I needed some local help - even though the posters here said don't do it - I went to a local cigar shop and purchased the mall e cig. Needless to say it did not do me a very good job the help was not there and wouldn't you know it the posters were right - the experience was bad.

Since that $200.00 wasted I now have an eGo t some ejuices and some 306 LR's on the way with a pyrex drip tip. (All that good stuff for under $100.00) I know I have better gear now. Its good stuff, TH is great, vapor production is great have juices in 24 and 36mg. I have what I need - I think.

My big problem is that I cannot stop smoking. I keep on buying smokes, and keep on smoking them. Yesterday I chain smoked a pack of American Spirits while reading a thread on there here about a gentleman that was having the same issue. (The thread was old 09'- but still some good stuff on MOAI, that nicotine does not equal tobacco etc, etc.) Honestly I like vaping more than smoking!

So why am i writing this? I am hoping to find out I am not alone, looking for advise, a kick in the ..., additional gear that may help, whatever it is I am open to suggestions, criticism, laughs, whatever. Maybe just the catharsis of venting I don't know. All I know for sure is that I want to stop smoking analogs.

I went cold turkey for two weeks before starting ecigs, I think it made for an easy transition (haven't had a cig since). That isn't for everyone though. Plenty of vapers slowly reduce their cig use over time, I know of one person in particular that vaped and smoked for a year before becoming smoke free.

Don't feel like you *have* to quit smoking all at once, itll only make you more stressed out about it and cause you to smoke more. Just try to reduce your cig intake over time and fill it in with vaping. Eventually you'll work your way down to the day when you realize that you haven't had a cig at all.

wish i could offer some end all be all solution to your problems but sadly i can't-
it comes down to you stopping yourself from buying the ciggies really...
When i first started i think i had one or two smokes a day for a couple days..and each time
i reminded myself how horrible ciggies tastes, then went back to the much better tasting juice-
and of course, i was making myself uber high on 36 mg nicjuice...

I think it came down to that reminder, and the fact that i didn't want to fail myself, or my family, or my pocketbook-
especially since my first ecig was an overpriced pile of dookie-

The 306 could help...dripping takes practice though, don't be discouraged, the taste can be unbeatable.

i didn't have tons of luck with the ego-t(tornado tank for me)but it was better than the first ecig i had, and therefore the helping catalyst in my quitting-

look into getting some cartos, Boge cartos as i am sure you will read elsewhere are a fan favorite, and if you get the 510 2.0 ohm ones, they will work fine with your ego battery, along with giving you more flavor and warmer vapor.

hold tight, and well, believe in yourself.
best advice i can give really.

Relax Rio!! You WILL quit smoking. Know how I know? You said this: "Honestly, I like vaping more than smoking"!! LOL Of course you do - we all do. I said the same thing. You also said this: "All I know for sure is that I want to stop smoking analogs" You will. I said the same thing. STOP kicking yourself in the .... for smoking a few cigs (OK, more than a few, but that will soon change) I think most people will tell you that when they first started they smoked AND vaped. There are a lot of people on here that can give you tons of help and encouragement. I'm here for the encouragement part and I'm sure the vaping masters? will be along shortly to give you some solid advice. I've been doing this for 10 months now, I've had my ups and downs. When the downs hit (ie, problems w/units and/or cartos) I always fell back on analogs for a few days. There are lots of people on here who started vaping and never touched a cigarette again. Good for them. There are those of us who have fallen off the wagon so to speak. You just get some good advice and jump back up on here with the rest of us and if you're reeking a little bit of tobacco, well, I'm thinking we can overlook that for now.

You're gonna do this - no worries.

Two possibles. One is if you really need the MAOIs, try snus -- there's an active smokeless tobacco area in this forum.

Second, maybe you just don't have liquid with enough nicotine. For instance, I cut way down with 18 mg/ml, but it absolutely wasn't enough for me to stop smoking. I needed 24 mg/ml, and kept a bit of higher (30 or 36 mg/ml) for some trigger points (like first waking up, or just after a meal). I didn't need the MAOIs, could detox that part, but absolutely needed enough nic.

Good luck! Wanting to switch over is a large part of it, just keep plugging along.

If I didn't think cigarettes would eventually kill me, I wouldn't have switched to vaping. All the ridiculous taxes and 3rd class citizen treatment helped. Vaping is not smoking. To me, it's a substitute and yeah, things are missing from cigs in vaping, mostly bad things, but I sometimes miss nevertheless. You may like it, may not as much. The desire has to be there to get off cigs, or no equipment or juice will do it, IMO.

But it's not all or nothing. No pressure, which surely drives one back to smokes. Take your time, see if you can convince yourself cigs could/are doing damage to you with every puff. That makes dropping it easier. :)

I had a similar transition when I first got into vaping... I didn't really know much about PV's and bought a blu cig when I saw an ad for it. Seemed great, I wanted to get off analogs to save money and my health, didn't work out though. They werent very satisfying and I went right back to my pack a day parliament light habit.

I stumbled across this forum a few months later when I decided to give vaping another shot... Did some research and ended up with an eGo, some LR cartos, and better juice with higher nic. Much better vaping experience but I was still reaching for an analog.

I think at this point it was more of a mental thing so I started bringing my eGo around with me all the time as well as my analogs. I would tell myself to reach for the eGo instead of an analog everytime I wanted a cig. It was tough at first but over the course of about 2 weeks I was down to about 2 or 3 analogs a day. Another week or so later I found myself reaching for the eGo more so I said to myself tomorrow I won't bring the analogs out with me. I used to always want that first cig of the day after breakfast even when I was weening myself off of them but I now found the vape just as satisfying. Vaped that whole day and it was great!

It will be 3 weeks as of tomorrow for me since I had an analog and I no longer have an urge. Bought a GGTS and I'm now in vaping heaven.

Best of luck!

I have though about that as well as I read somewhere on here that the SNUS folks are to parahpase "the happiest bunch of .......s out there" (someone elses words not mine.) My concern is that is why I started smoking in the first place - to quit chewing... I appreciate the suggestion and will look into it more and more.

#1 Snus is not american dip or chew, it's manufactured completely different so no spitting. #2 Because of the difference of manufacturing all the harmful stuff hasn't been added. You can find out more about it in Other Alternatives to Smoking > Smokeless tobacco on this forum. Then you have dissolvables like Stonewall's or Ariva, the problem with them is getting used to the flavor, it takes a while. Give them a try you won't be disappointed.

when i started vaping it was more of a lets see what happens thing not a "im going to quit smoking right now". I vaped and smoked for 2 weeks. but found myself smoking maybe 6 analogs a day (was at about 30) finally a few weekends ago I told my husband "its time to get serious" and we both quit analogs right there. There were times when i thought i might die if i didnt get my camel lights but i actually kept a pack in a drawer and have yet to open them. I just sat down and vaped about 2 cartos full and felt fine after that. after a few days i took a puff off of a coworkers camel and almost puked it tasted like burning.

It comes down to making that step of "im done" and following through with that decision. I really believe that you will not find an easier way to give up the cigs.

heres the kick in the ... you asked for.. when you want to quit stop buying them. my sig banner helps alot when i realize how much money i have saved in such a short time.

It took me 2 weeks smoking both before I could put the analogs down. I had my hubby hide my analogs. I knew if the craving got 2 bad he would tell me where they were. (I still do not know) Working on my 6th week analog free. <YAY>. Have introduced to my daughter and my son in law. They have gone to e cigs totally. Daughter had some problems going cold turkey and starting e cigs in 1 day. In my opinion it is better to do this over about 2 weeks. I am a newbie but have introduced more than 6 people to e cigs and they seem to transition with less withdrawal if they use 2 weeks. This is only my opinion...

(((RioRancho))) You've gotten a lot of great advice, so I won't add to it. I'm just here for the support :) Hang in here and know you won't ever be alone. Were all cheering for ya!

Yea, what she said! But I'll only add one other thing...don't kick yourself for smoking. It causes stress...stress causes the urge to smoke...hence a vicious cycle. Smoke and vape to your heart's content. I'll bet a dollar to a donut hole, you'll end up waking up one day realizing that you haven't had a stink stick in X number of days or hours...

If you like a little pressure and absolutely want to quit analogues, here is a trick that should help greatly. When you decide you want an analog, make your self vape for 10 or 15 minutes first. Adhere to this rule strictly (especially in the morning for that first fix) and you should start noticing that your craving for analogs will steadily diminish. At some point in time (2 days maybe 2 months) you should see your self not smoking any more analogs. That is a good time to add a signature that shows when you have had your last cig. I recommend posting regularly either sharing your experience or offering advice to someone else that is new so you can see your banner. BTW you need 15 posts before you can add a signature.

I wish you the best of luck. I hope that you don't ever have to use the same motivation that I am using now. My situation is a little more urgent. I am afraid that I am in the early stages of COPD.

Don't beat your self up. This is tough business. Finding tasty flavors helps immensly.
