Ok all. On the "Guide to DIY" by pure I found a lot of information on individual LorAnns flavors (Thank you PURE!!!) , but not really any on Capellas. Please post your ratings and what percentage you use for any Capellas you have used. (ie 4.5/5 and 12-15%)

If there is already a thread with this information, please point me in the right direction. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

CV ;)

P.S. I have Blueberry, Toasted Almond, Vanilla Custard, Waffle, and Cinnamon Danish Swirl coming. Any info and ratings on these flavors in particular would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!

I think it's just that it's more of a personal preference and depends on too many other factors. It's not an easy question to answer. I use anywhere from 15-20% total flavoring no matter what brand it is but I like it strong. I recommend you mix 1 drop flavoring with 4-5 drops PG/VG and get a feeling for the flavor before making a mixture. :)

Thanks for the reply GoodDog! I understand that taste is subjective, but ratings would be nice. 4/5 or 1/5 ya know just some opinions. If a lot of people stay away from a particular flavor, I usually trust it is not too good. On the other hand, if more than 3 people rate a certain flavor at 5/5 then it is a good indicator of that flavor being pretty good. That is all I am looking for. But I agree that everything is subjective as everyone has different taste buds! :D

Thanks again!

Hmm, more work for me eh? :p

This is a great idea, though. I would like to know if there are any particularly strong or weak flavors.

I've read the threads in the DIY forum fairly exhaustively whenever relevant and have come to the conclusion that Capella's calibrates their flavorings so they are all fairly similar in strength. Since they are an old company that markets mainly as diet food/drink flavorings, they are well tested and need to be consistent in how much to use from flavor to flavor to flavor. They also are almost exclusively no-recipe flavors and not basic flavors (such as apple, caramel, chocolate, etc), so they are simpler to use. There are really no flavors that don't work well on their own and are downright bad when it comes to Capella, but the drawback is that they usually aren't flexible or modifiable (e.g., already sweet).

I think the flavors you ordered are all 5/5 but there again it depends on what you do with it. I've never vaped Toasted Almond alone but use it mixed with Double Chocolate and Vanilla Custard.

Sorry, I was responding more to the strength of the flavors. For the flavors I use I think overall they're more consistent in the amounts to use compared to other companies where it can vary greatly and some can be weak. I haven't noticed any weak flavors with Capella. I really think you'll like what you bought. :)

Thank you Both!! That is great news! I am really excited to try these because the LorAnns..........well lets just say I think they are lacking a little. Of course once I get my Ethyl Maltol I think I may be able to make them come out a little better (from what I have heard).

Another question, off topic - I have made some English Toffee from LorAnns and it is quite harsh. Will the Ethyl Maltol smooth it out a little? I am thinking this flavor will be really great, but right now like I said it is a little harsh for me.

Tom at Capella told me that they don't add any sweeteners to their flavors.

I believe you, it was just an example.

What I meant was say, if you want Strawberry Kiwi, other companies have Strawberry and Kiwi that you can mix, but Capella's would instead just have Strawberry Kiwi Punch or something but not the individual flavors.

Yeah, LorAnn's can be bad sometimes. Their English Toffee seems to have quite a bit of Ethyl Alcohol in it. Try leaving the bottle open overnight and see if it helps, that does the trick for a lot of harsher liquids (it could also be the top note flavorings dissipating).

Thanks Again Pure! I appreciate your insight as your DIY knowledge is very valuable to me (and many others I am sure).

Adding a little marshmallow will help the harshness. Learned that one from PureVapes waaay back. ;)

Even though Capella doesn't add additional sweetener their flavors are still fairly sweet.

I thought this was interesting from the DIY Flavorshack site.

"Ethyl Maltol is a safe, nontoxic and widely-used aromatic food additive. Only a small amount is needed to achieve a significant effect. It is a sweet, synergetic agent used in tobacco, food, beverages, essences, wines, cosmetics and other consumables. It has a remarkable effect on improving and increasing the flavor of foods, and it enhances the sweetness of foods. Additionally, the king of food additives makes food keep longer "

Thanks again for the Info GoodDog! It is greatly appreciated. I will try my next mix of English Toffee with a little Marshmallow and Ethyl Maltol and see how it comes out. I have heard good things about this flavor and it is rated very high!

Another question (I am just full of them! HAHA) I have heard people talk of 4oz bottles of Capellas. Where are those if I decide I love them??? I do not see them on their site. Thanks!!

CV ;)

P.S. Your knowledge and insight is extremely valuable to me as well GoodDog. Thank you for all of your help!

They now have the 4 oz available on their site, click the bulk pricing link on the front page. They don't seem to have all of the flavors available in 4 oz, I waiting for a reply to an email I sent concerning the availability of caramel in 4 oz. They do note that it can take up to 14 days for their bulk items, GoodDog has that been you experience when ordering the 4 oz. bottle?

Thanks GoodDog, I better get my order in, now that I've discovered the joy of vanilla custard, I'd hate to run out. It really has helped a lot (maybe all) of my mixes, thanks for the tip!

It says on their coupon page: NOTE: Discount codes cannot be applied to bulk pricing products, which are already pre-discounted. ? Looks like the free shipping code still works though...

Not here.
I just ordered from Capella's and Perfumer's Apprentice for the first time. I have no experience whatsoever with DIY, so it looks like we're in the same boat!

Here's what I purchased-
Capella's-
French Toast
Toasted Almond
Cinnamon Danish Swirl
Milk Chocolate Toffee
Chocolate Coconut Almond
Waffle

Perfumer's Apprentice-
Brown Sugar Concentrated
Cotton Candy
Ethyl Maltol Crystals
Maple Syrup
Waffle

I figured since I had a huge bottle of 0 nic Vanilla Custard, I could wait on purchasing any more vanilla or creamy types. I already have PG, VG and unflavored nic fluid as well.

How'd I do? Any comments from the experienced? Anything I should know about these particular flavors?

I think, perhaps, I'm hungry for breakfast food.
