car adapter or pt issue?

I have an cigarette lighter/usb adapter for my pt so I can vape on long trips without having to worry about my batteries going dead. The first time I used it it worked great no problems at all. Later that same night I was using it in the car and I started getting that burnt taste. I changed atty's and still nasty chemical burnt taste. In fact it even ruined one of my atty's because after one hit and the burnt taste I tried the atty on a reg. battery and it was dead no vape no nothing . The atty was still under it's 90 warranty so it was replaced with no problems but I don't want this happening again and fear that the adapter somehow went bad. I have used the pt since on my desktop and as a matter of fact am using it now as I sit here and type this and it is working great. The only issue I have with it is when I try to use it with the adapter in the car . Has anyone else had a issue like this? Could it be the car adapter? I just bought it and was so excited now all my hopes for using my pt in the car are crushed .

I have 2 pt's.
The first one I bought was a 5 volt and burned things up, I no longer use it.
The second one is 3.7 volts (same as the battery) and I love using it in my car.

It could beif it's letting too many volts through.

Thanks guys! The place I bought the PT is replacing it for me since it was only days old .
