i dont have a problem paying the money for a good device, but i know of nothing out there compact in 18350 that i can buy today. whats an easily accessible ~$100 mechanical 18350 mod?

I purchased my GUS 22 telescopic for $109 shipped from Greece. It's a great mod for around $100. Compact as all get out in 350 mode.
Only took about 8 days to get here.

I have no problem at all buying a pos at a small price if I think I can make it into something better. If the only thing wrong with a mod is the fit & finish, I don't mind putting in a little effort cleaning it up.
If I see a flaw that I think I can fix with the tools at my disposal... Well... That's why I have tools.

Here's where I got mine: By Gus : Gus Telescopic Mod V2+

Showing out of stock now. Got mine last week, so it was ordered 2 weeks ago.

You might want to look into replacing the top post. That spring design is, well honestly, pretty bad for a mod that price.

The bottom switch doesn't appear to be brass either, hopefully it's nickel plated, but from the tint, I'd say more likely steel, which again isn't ideal.

ok i understand china made mods have problems but a high end high priced mod needs to be tweaked too? i have a 90 $ cellphone that can connect to satellites in space to tell me my coordinates in the middle of nowhere. its a damn tube with a switch. people have made wonders with all kinds of metal 2000 years ago.

This why I love the EA, top pin/connector is a solid brass pin, bottom contact is a sold brass post. The only spring is in the pinky button which is also brass. Simple, well made and effective.

That's pretty much the point I'm making. My background is EE/CE, I've worked in electromechanics, microwave transmission, computing, heck even a little mechanical drafting. Most of the mechanical mods I've seen, high or low end have fairly basic design flaws, which I assume comes from the lack of maturity of the market and scale (its all still relatively new and small). There were real mods to begin with, homespun. Then some not so great production run mechs, then the chipped mods VV/VW, and now mechs are all the rage again. I think the clones are going to fill the void in the market (US $30-100), and I expect the high end makers to step it up (adjustable brass contacts, spring-less posts, etc.) if they're going to charge in excess of these price points.

Surprised, that there no pinkybuttons or telescopes since chinese seems to be obsessed with them. I have waited decent ordinary 18xxx-battery mod for them for a long time. Contacts are probably chromed at least, or I will be really amazed. :D

But you know, when Caravela first came up, many accused Caravela being GP Paps-clone. ;) If Caravela-logo is not cloned, I don't consider this Caravela-clone more than many others like JM22, Swan, Mankos, BBM...

Exactly, and that highlights even more so the irony of some of the comments in this thread, no understanding of the prior art. I remember the talk of Caravela at the beginning too. The real issues I assume for some are that these are one, Chinese, and two, they are using the other makers name to advertise their clone, which honestly is a bit daft.

i completely agree on the production scale. most of the high end mods today are basically "a guy and a lathe" operation. we will see truly amazing devices after some years when vaping will hopefully be embraced by many many people.

I have a poldiac and a nemesis and both perform excellent, I also have a sigelei 13a which I had to tweak just a little and it performs almost just as well, I'm talking losing in performance by just 0.01-0.02 of a volt. I'm a tinkerer and this is exciting and fun to be able to make a "civic" perform as well as a "Ferrari"

If 10 minutes of tweaking is too much work for you, then by all means, spend that cash and wait weeks, months, years waiting for that magical mod.

I can't wait to get my sigelei 19 and make that sucker perform. They used quality material just got confused by coating it. The machining is buttery smooth as well. I guarantee both sigeleis will last just as long as my poldiac and nemesis, afterall they are all metal battery tubes with a switch to complete the circuit.

Give China 3-6 months, they'll get it right soon enough.

Maybe it's more likely a design compromise, sacrificing initial conductivity to prevent longer term corrosion/oxidation. Maybe they think buyers of inexpensive mods wouldn't clean the brass contacts frequently enough or at all.

Provides options too, leave it stock or sand them to brass. I just hope everyone is polishing the brass also, sanding along isn't ideal. The mating surfaces should be as flat and smooth as possible.

Yeah, I'm not real happy about the spring, but it works fairly well. "Fixing" it is on the list of things to do. :)

Have an EA also. Great mech! Wasn't too thrilled about the pinky switch, but found it's much easier to use than the bottom switch on the GUS.

10 mins of tweaking on a mech mod is required no matter if its a knock off or not. Even the most expensive Vela requires regular maintenance to keep it running right. Cleaning contacts and threads.

I too find the side-firer lot easier than the bottom-firer.

I will grab a side button mod over a bottom button that needs to be unlocked and locked before vaping every time. Its just a convenience thing. I hate picking up a mod, going to draw and realizing that I have to unlock it to hit it. Just personal preference I guess.

Excellent points! I have a side fire now with a bottom fire on pre-order coming soon (I hope!) While many bottom fire button mods are often strong enough to not fire, when they are set down, I bet most users lock the buttons anyway... and now that I think about it I am fairly certain I will too.

In my 40s and still learning new things every day! :D

I consider tweaking and maintenance to he two different things, although you are absolutely right.
