Excellent points! I have a side fire now with a bottom fire on pre-order coming soon (I hope!) While many bottom fire button mods are often strong enough to not fire, when they are set down, I bet most users lock the buttons anyway... and now that I think about it I am fairly certain I will too.

In my 40s and still learning new things every day! :D

Even the bottom buttons that are stiff enough not to fire I still lock. They lean (99% do) when unlocked and IDK about you all, but I knock my mods over and it drives me nuts. So if they are leaning thats asking for trouble, IMO

I consider tweaking and maintenance to he two different things, although you are absolutely right.

Agreed, but in most cases a tweak is no more than a regular maintenance session. :)

I don't need to lock my NZonic... and it doesn't lean... was pretty damn stocked... I fully expected this not to be the case.

Is there any information we can read on how this one performs or are people just hopefully expecting them to be good?

Edit: I just bought it, lol. Here's the first thoughts review Caravella Clone Closer Look.

bottom line.... crappy mod, made to look like something everyone wants.

people want brass... so they plate it yellow
people want magnets... they randomly throw in magnets.
people want telescopic... well they didnt mess that one up.

these manufacturers will make anything with zero regard as to why we request it....
all in the name of quick $$$

bottom line... you seem to know a lot about this mod, yet are wrong...
Firstly it is gold(?) plated brass...
it has NO magnets
it is a single tube, no telescoping feature. The supplier I purchased it from never claimed it was.
as for the quality of it...
Is it a real caravela or would it stand up to one side by side? no
would it take several hundreds of dollars to purchase one over priced in the classifieds? no
it is a battery tube with a bottom switch? yes
does it work? yes

we get it, it is not a real caravela. Move along

the problem with this mod is that the name bears a lot of expectations (which is wrong to have in the first place) it is just a simple mechanical mode from china, some are good some are bad, as with everything else.
the clone is supposed to just look alike not be the same quality, that's why it is cheaper and in my opinion it has a big market. don't compare this to the original, compare it to other chinese mech mods and you will be alright..

i guess discussing an accessible mod that WORKS is peddling it and defending it. This thread was to discuss this mod. I have it in hand and answered all questions asked. I discussed the positives and the negatives, provided detailed pictures, and gave my personal opinion which wasn't shining, however you want to keep popping in and bashing it.

well, you DID rip on him about not knowing what he was talking about... when it was you who didn't realize he was talking about several different clones and china's apparent inability to understand what we want and why we want it...

To help you out:

Caravela Clone - Yellow Plated Brass
NZonic Clone(Segelei #19) - Senseless magnet usage
Telescoping Clones - Actually Works... aside from lower quality threads.

I mean:
yes they're cheap...
yes they can work good with some modifications...
Yes it is hilarious that the makers can't figure out how to not coat brass, or the functional use of magnets.

And that's it right there... Comic ineptitude.

Out of curiosity, do they maybe plate it due to high lead content in their brass?

Also, I hate the word clone, I think a clone would be the same. I think knockoff is more accurate.

LOL good point on the term "Clone"... may have to amend my vernacular.
(I better damn well get bonus points for using both of those in a sentence)

The lead thing is definitely an interesting idea... Because some of the mods out there with Chrome plated brass are puzzling... but coating brass yellow, is just idiotic.

the notion presented earlier that it may be gold plating, is laughable.

It would make sense to me... if Chinese manufacturers cared at all about product safety. Unfortunately history has shown they rate safety right up there with quality.

Not necessarily everything China is crap, though u definitely have a point there. That we need to accept most of it with a pinch of salt. However, if we 'select' our buys with some serious study/research - we can get some pretty nice ones from the Chinese assembly line too.

I have the Sigelei #8. This one is a production well done. U need to hold it to understand that it's so underrated. They have put beauty into their work this time. Every corner of it is well made. The looks, machining, tone hues, threading, gauge of the tube (it's heavy, all steel and can crack a floor without receiving a dent on itself), all brass contact points, the works.

That said, I'm not pimping it. There r many nice ones out there... definitely the Greeks, Portuguese and also the Filipinos have done wonders. But the Sigelei #8 can stand tall among those hi-end ones without a question. So much so that, if no one clarifies it to be a Sigelei, I doubt anyone could fathom that this was just a $40 mod. This one is brandable and then sellable for $200++... that good it is.

So, the bottomline is to know what to purchase. And given their 'price-vs-quality' quotient -- they can actually call it off, unless we goof-up buying some of their non-achievable ones like the #19. Which is why, r they all good? No. However, some of them are.
