Because cartotanks operate on the principle of negative pressure in the tank to wick juice into the cartomizer correctly, they are subject to issues with marked changes in temperature and barometric pressure (altitude changes).

I've never come across these problems myself, so I have no suggestions for you.

Then I should wait till February we have 4 seasons here. November, December, January, and Summer.

A good introduction to carto/tanks are the kind with the little screw in the side. They won't win a beauty contest, but they're easy to use and if they get dry, remove the screw and it'll feed the carto. You can also top off the tank through the screw.

Mom & Pops and a few others carry them.

Smok Pyrex and dcts, it did not seem the top or bottom was leaking. It did it at standstill and fairly fast.
The problem I've found with the Smok tanks is the inner o-rings around the carto fit loose, it helps if you can keep it warm. I finally gave up on them and got me a couple of IBTanked tanks and haven't had that problem any more, and since friday it's been tested here in SA.

Perhaps that is the reason I've never had issues with flooding or leaking. For the last year I've used nothing but IBTanked.

I've never seen the need for a locking cartotank. The IBTanks hug a carto snuggly not requiring a locking mechanism. The same can be said for Phiniac pyrex tanks. These are tanks that are well designed and use higher quality o-rings. You pay more for these than you will with a Smoktech tank, but you get what you pay for - a higher quality tank with no problems.

I've never understood the need for a juice fill hole. Using a tank tool, its just as fast & easy to fill a tank using the tool. I often read of problems with the tanks that use a juice fill hole having flooding issues. The Tank sub-forum is full of threads with the Smok U-DCT cartotanks and AGR cartotanks having flooding issues.

All the ones I've had with a hole in them leaked on me, not at first but after about a month, anything that moves will wear out.

hmmmm honestly I think this is an issue with a lot of tanks be it carto, clearo, etc. For example. Last week I went to work everything was working fine...(using my heater in my truck as it has been in the 20's here in the a.m.) then when go to jobsites I will leave my equipment in my truck until lunch or breaks. All of the sudden I will get gurgling and notice that juice has leaked onto my battery terminal and in one case it wouldn't produce a vape at all... I need to get a carrying case that is insulated.

Maybe I'm lucky. ha! I've never had a leak.

Valley View used to sell o-rings and grommets for tanks dirt cheap. I used to buy a bag of them and just change them fairly frequently.

I'm considering purchasing an IBTanked or two, but I want to stick with the size I buy as the end caps are the most expensive. Using an ego 1100mah pass through I know buying the 15mm would be the best flush (but would be refilling a lot), but I'm considering either the 19mm or 22 (more like the 19 with a beauty ring). Any thoughts anyone?

I would suggest the 19mm. I got the 15mm because of the form factor and I may as well just be using the carto. It was worth a shot though ;)

LR = low resistance. SR = standard resistance. HR = high resistance (for variable voltage mods).

S = standard length carto. XL = extra long length carto.

Cartomizers all have the same diameter to fit into any cartotank. There are standard (35mm) and XL length (45mm) cartos for standard and XL length tanks. The resistance (ohm rating) of the coils inside the carto affect how hot the vapor will be.

Dual coil vs single coil is a personal preference. You can put a single coil carto in a dual carto tank, and vice versa.

I prefer single coil because I found that it is hard to keep dual coils from burning the top coil's filler due to their design. The top coil is about mid-shaft in position inside the carto, which is higher than wick holes in a punched carto (see below diagram - red arrows represent juice flow). Even if you properly prime the carto, the juice from the tank will not consistantly keep the top coil wet enough to keep it from burning the filler.

Placing a hand-punched hole higher in the carto shaft is not the answer, because when the juice level in the tank falls below the higher hole, air gets sucked into the cartomizer and causes dry hits. Enlarging the bottom holes may result in flooding the carto.

The name "DCT" or dual coil tank is a misnomer. This is what Smoktech called one of the first cartotanks made, and included their new dual coil cartomizers. The name just stuck on to mean all types of cartotanks (even those made by other tank manufacturers), much like how Bandaids is synonomous with adhesive bandages and Kleenex is synonomous with facial tissues, etc. Many novices believe only dual coil cartos can go into a DCT, which is incorrect.

That's a great post, with pics!, for us newbies. Should be a sticky - ECF moderators???

Now today I got the Smok DCT 3ml and the taste is amazing. Wow, I've had this thing for a few hours now and its like a whole new vaping experience for me. Now again I don't have much experience as I stated but if I can get even 4 days out of this wow! The taste is amazing! Ive tried protank mini 2 (its a clone didnt know that when I bought it) and am using kanger protank heads (official, I know as I ordered extras from ecblend a reputable site and they dont look like the extras that came with my kanger or the clones I bought) and I just cannot get more than a day maybe day and half without it burning on the clones or official heads. I have also tried the ce4 which is nice, and I can get about 4 days out of one of those, but I have to be careful on how I hit like the kanger. I also have a non clone evod dark purple I got from the same site I got the proper kanger coil heads and its a little better than the protank in taste (I dont care about clouds), but it still burns out and I have to baby it since its the same head.

I have a question about its use though can I chain vape off of it? Unlike the ce4 and kanger/evod because juice is always in there & same with those kanger/evod etc but its such a small wick? (I filled the tank sucked the whole tank up then refilled it). I am sure I'll figure it out the more I use it, but so far its great and like I said if I can even get 4 days out of it I'd be extremely happy.

Another question is if I cannot do this with the Smok DCT what is a tank that I can hit gently, but chain vape off of? With the ce4 and kanger I have to be very careful or I'll burn it (I'm doing the long soft pulls on it not hitting like a cig and still it happens) and I also have to switch between the kanger and the ce4.

With the kanger/evod and ce4 I am more worried about hitting it right, not hitting too much, hitting off one bat then the other etc. I want a tank that I dont have to fuss with so much. What would it be if not this carto tank?

I hope I'm not rambling too much! Thanks for the help!

What device are you using? I have a protank 2 and a smok DCT and an RSST Rebuildable. and i run all of them off the sigelei Zmax V5 at 3.8 volts. I know that if i turn up the voltage on my device when I use the protank 2 it will burn but I run a 1.8 OHM atty.
