Been vaping for almost a month with Protanks and imitation EVODS (crappy) on a TWIST and am ready to try something new. I'm thinking cartos are the next logical step. Couple of questions.

1. Benefits of carto vs. clero?
2. What do I need? Pyrex tank, cartomizers, drip tip. What else?
3. Who should I order from? Phiniac? IBTanked? Lil' Mama? Fluid Flask? Other options?
4. Any other things I should consider?

The advantages to cartos over clearos are: much less hassle and nice full draw vs the airy draw of the clearo.

I use the Phiniac glass tanks but have read good comments about IBTankded, also. My 3-hole punched carto tank lasts 7 - 10 days and the tank has never leaked in a year. And I have never had a "burnt" carto. Occassionally, one of the cartos is DOA, but that happens with all deliver systems from time to time. Here is what I have:

Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks

I've dropped the tank more times than I can remember and it has never cracked or leaked.

I would also get a tank filling tool. Here is one example:

1. Both have their pros and cons for sure. Based on my experience and from what I have read, cartos tend to have better flavor overall and produce more consistent results as far as vapor/flavor go. Clearos can be cheaper due to cost of cartos and the ability to refresh the clearo on your own for pennies.

2. Yeah, thats about it. I'd suggest getting a couple different cartos to try so you can experiment with different Ohms and holes, etc to see what you like/don't like. A pyrex tank would be good so you don't have to worry about the tank buster flavors.

3. What kind to get? Anything. Personally, for just experimenting, I wouldn't go all out on a Phiniac or whatever, you can get good quality Pyrex or even Polypro tanks for less than 15 bucks. (Smok Pyrex DCT, Valley Vapes (pyrex and polypro), Texas Tuff (polypro), Lucifer Tanks (polypro), and of course IBTanked just to name a few).

4. Remember, the tank is just the storage device, what you are truly going to be judging satisfaction of is the cartomizer when it comes to vapor/flavor. There are great cartos, and there are bum cartos....and they can sometimes be found in the same 5-pack. I'm the process of experimenting the other direction trying out clearos right now.

Have fun!

Biggest plus for cartos is the flavor for sure. It'll take some testing to find the right carto though.
Setup is more tedious than a clearo, but the flavor factor is worth it.

The SmokTek Pyrex carto tank is a nice, large, inexpensive tank to start. Comes with a drip tip and a 1.5 ohm single coil, single punched carto. The cartos are flanged so it "locks" into place, sort of.

Search for blogs and posts of Batitude, the resident carto expert.

The main carto brands are Smok, Boge, and Ikenvape. The Ikenvape are supposedly the best, but hardly ever in stock.
I've got Smok now, but the flavor gets muted after a single tank, so I'll be trying Boge or Ikenvape next. However, the carto that came with the tank performed fairly well.

A tank tool (Who's your daddy, Slap yo mamma) is almost a necessity.

1. No leaking, gurgling, dry hits, tilting, or otherwise wonkieness that happen far too often with clearos.

They aren't as easy to set up though, but IMO the 5 minute set up time is a small price to pay for a more consistent vape.

2. You need a tank, cartomizer, and driptip, but I would suggest getting a tank tool and a quality pyrex tank.

A tank tool goes on the end of your carto just like a drip tip protecting your oring from damage and making it easier to fill your tank. A cartomizer can play havoc on your orings when you slide it in and out of your tank. The tank tool covers the sharp edges of a carto and also makes it easier to slide in.

3. All of those are good with special mention going to IBTanked only because it's quality are won't break the bank. You should also look into Valley View Vapes. They just opened up again (the owner was having medical problems). They offer larger 25mm pyrex tanks with SS or anodized aluminium end caps at a very good price. Cheaper than IBTanked.

4. If you want to get into carto tanks you should watch this. It covers everything from filling and punching cartos and everything in between. It's a little long, but there is a ton of great info in there. A must see for the new carto tank user.

Plenty of good information on cartomizers and cartotanks in my blogs:

page 2 E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

I'll merely suggest either the IBTanked https://www.ibtanked.com/complete-tanks/stainless-steel-setup or the polypropylene tanks from My Vapor Store 510 Pro DCTank Combo for complete tank kits at an affordable price, and Ikenvape cartos (510 Fusion or Platinum) if you can find them in stock.

I also strongly recommend getting the Slap Yo Moma tank tool no matter which cartotank you end up choosing.

Personally I really prefer the (in order) Phiniac, IB tank, and then the LIL momma from Big Daddy vapor. I'll spend the extra few bucks to have a HIGH quality delivery system. I've gotten use to the Ikenvapes carto's but still like my boge LR and also the SR cartos.
I don't use dual coil cartos, so I can't say anything about them. I only use the single coil.
(Brother Bad you got me going back to Ikenvape now. Only use em on my Provari) Single coil will work just fine on my mechs.

Already read both of them...twice,

So I current have eGo TWIST batts. Plan is, however, to get something else. Possible a Sigelei vmax or similar.

Should I go with the 19 or 22mm tank from ibtanked? And I guess stainless is my only option for end caps as the anodized caps are out of stock, right?

Well, are you purchasing for today or tomorrow? The 19mm would fit the eGo batteries best. But the 22mm would fit a medium diameter mod best. A 19mm will work just as well on a medium size mod as a skinny one.

The red, hot pink (more like purple), and turquoise anodized caps appear to still be in stock for the 22mm. Otherwise, the stainless steel are still a great option for either a 19mm or 22mm.

Liquid capacity may play a part in your decision:

19mm Standard= 1.5ml
19mm XL = 2ml

22mm Standard = 3ml
22mm XL = 4.5ml

25mm Standard = 5ml
25mm XL = 8ml

I use a smoke tech dc tank with boge f16's, it tastes and works great. that being said I reach for the protank 90% of the time now. Just works great and taste great. think ill eventually move away from cartos

First you say you use a cartotank and that it "tastes and works great". Then you say you also use a clearomizer that "works great and tastes great". But you think you'll eventually stop using cartos.

That made such great sense to me, I think you may have just convinced me to give up cartos, too. NOT!!

Funny, didnt try to convince anyone to give carto up. Did I hurt your feeling or something? have a little attitude.

Both work and taste great, but the protank is rebuildable, taste is pretty much the same between the two . So I can just rebuild this and save money or keep buying cartos. if you like cartos keep them, they work good .

No, you didn't hurt my feelings. Some bad attitude? Probably, it IS in my name. My point was, if you re-read your previous post, you were extremely vague about why you were going to drop cartos after just saying they worked great. It didn't make any sense at all. A little information on WHY would have been helpful.

Perhaps I should have encouraged that additional information from you in a less snide way. It was late and I was tired. Sometimes my own patience falls short from finnicky comments that add little to a post. I appologize and thank you for returning to add the additional comments. Now the world knows.

I can see myself moving up to the Sigelei/Provari soon and selling my TWISTs. So I will probably get the 22mm. Thanks for the info. I guess the VMAX vs. Provari vs. Vamo is best suited for another topic.

Those topics have already been well covered, they don't need to be rehashed. Just do an ECF search.

Personally, coming from the clearos to the carto tanks, aside from my beloved little workhorse Evods, I wish the cash I'd spent on the protanks (I got two) had gone to the cost of a fully tricked out IBTanked. The draw in the protanks is just waaaaay too airy for me (even after I rebuilt the heads, and then swapped to rebuilt evod heads). Also, I personally can't get over the metallic taste I get from the built in drip tip.

That being said, do what works best for you, and whatever keeps you off the stinkies is what's best for you.
