hmmm, screwdriver has a fair battery life ...cartomizers arent the fastest thing to blow away, unlike a 901 cart...

I'm going to guess the cart outlasted the SD battery by maybe 20-30 minutes, if not a wee bit more.

Dangit, knew I should have put that question out with money riding on it. ;-)

No, vapor from the cart lasted real well for about 2 1/3 to 3 hours of fairly constant chain vaping and then petered out. The battery started at around 4.12v and was at 3.85 when the cart gave out. Thats pretty much the same battery performance I would get with any other atomizer under similar vaping. Course w/ any other atty I would have had to top off several times, and probably blow the thing out once. Cartomizers definatley got a place.

Next up is perfecting refilling the thing.

refilling it is a snap, just carefully remove the white mouthpiece cap, then the little rubber thingie... Lean the cartomizer 45 degrees, start dripping juice in it till you see it get quite moist (since its leaned air is escaping from the batting that is up, so you're lookin for moistness at the bottom) Stop when it gets moist and stays that way, then stand it up level and watch it for like 30 sec...or look at it after 30 seconds. if that side that was up still looks a touch dry put a drop on it..but it usually fixes itself in that 30 seconds.
no need to soak with this method, proceed directly to vaping.

Thats how i do it now, havnt killed a cartomizer since..now end of life for cartomizers for me is when they turn ugly...i draw the line at washing them lol.

Like starting from square one again damn it! LOL I just finished getting a sizable glob of juice literally rocketed into the back of my throat! Please laugh at me, I got it coming.

I did almost exactly what you've just posted KC. From memory of a previous post of yours. Made sense, start to finish, on the side, 45 degrees, yeah. I left it at 45 degree while I got a shower. So 20 minutes later I look at it, hmm soaked it up. 2 more drops and oops! Juice comin' up through the center hole, rats. Quick dob w/ paper towel, re-assemble, apply current, gurgle, no air flow, gurgle, bam! right in the back of the throat!

I will learn this! Blow it out and it's vaping just fine!

Is there a diagram of how the carts are built? I've seen pictures of the ones that burnt but cut-away diagram would be great. I really have no idea how these differ from other attys. How does the juice wick, what is that center hole I see and so forth...

i hope you took the white thingie off and the inner rubber thingie out and *then* tried filling...cause that sounded like a battery end fill which i wouldnt advise to my worst enemy lol.

i set them 45 degrees and drip on the batting until i *just* see it get/stay moist. i then stand them up (mouth end up here) and let them stand for 30 seconds and see how full they are. ordinarily..i mean like 99% of the time, its full enough and i reassemble the cartomizer and get to work emptying it.

Now, i do the afore mentioned stuff with the little .... plug and condom on the battery end...but if youre scared you overfilled it, remove those parts (after filling) and stand it up battery end down on a sheet of paper towel or other absorbant material. excess will drain through battery hole. you can also dab lightly on the batting end to suck up excess...but im tellin ya, i really never have to do these things as long as i stop when i see the batting get wet and stay that way while at 45...standing it up lets the rest of it fill (it wicks over...and evens itself out)

Who woulda thought that vaping would entail .... plugs and condoms?

The only thing I did different from what you've described is adding those extra 2 drops after it had set for awhile. It didn't need those drops!! As you describe, the cart was actually full. Like I said though, I simply blew it out like I would normally do to any other flooded atty except I blew from the mouthpiece end instead of the battery end. Made sense for some reason and it did work. Suffice to say after that throat shot I'll not be overfilling again!

The cart was pre-filled with Virginia Cured, PG, really sweet, not impressed. I re-filled it with my own unflavored PG/VG mix and boy howdy!

Cartomizers LIKE VG!!

I am still working on my technique as well. After one mouthful I learned to let them sit a bit first, then pick em up and inhale very lightly. If i hear gurgling, I do what you do a gently blow them out a bit. I am sure one day I will learn not to be overzealous. I hate wasting those drops that get blown out!

Picture the grin on my face when I hear I'm not the only one to pull that trick :D

Ive had poor luck with VG's duration in a cartomizer..it goes like gang busters but tends to vape out fast..as vapor production is tied to liquid use and vg flat hogs the liquid.

Insofar as blowing them out...I don't know if you know this, but blowing from the mouthpiece end will utterly empty a cartomizer...if you ever have that as a goal..ive done it a time or two tryin to get them empty of something ugly.

when you oversauce one, youre better off if you blow in the battery end, it clears the atomizer without emptying the batting..something to do with the design, when you blow in the big end, the air flow is superfast at the little end and it hoovers up the juice from the batting and right out the hole it goes...other way around you blow out the minimum necessary to clear the atty.

Jeez, i have *got* to get a non crap camera with super zoom capabilities, i see this now, cause i love doin this stuff haha

KC, if you could put together a video as well as you describe stuff in text those would be GREAT instructional vids w/o doubt!

Did another refill this morning, followed your tips to the letter. Works real well! I did use my PG/VG mix and while I may not realize the full potential of the cartomizers capacity by using VG, it worked pretty damn well none the less!!

My normal routine is to carry the 2 PV's, SD and AR when I leave for work. 45 minute drive each way, 3 breaks while there. Vape none stop while driving, chain vape during the breaks, and of course a few hits in the lab when no ones looking. Rotate the 2 PV's and during this daily routine I'll need to top off my carts at least twice, 3 to 4 times is the norm.

Carried both my ARs today just in case, but today was a test of SD with the cartomizer I filled this morning. I hit the ARs mebbe a total of 5 times each. The majority of my vaping today was off the cartomizer. No topping off, very little variation from one hit to the next and the darn thing is just now starting to taper off.

Oh yeah, methinks the cartomizer will probably be a regular addition to my kit. And which end to blow from when overfilled is committed to memory in my spare brain cell!

Thanks bud

I've used a maximum of 25%vg/75%pg mix in cartomizers with success, but going above that seems to kinda bork up my filling. Also Wilton's isnt worth a darn for cutting, USP from Walgreens or CVS seems to be superior for cutting.

Pure VG has been a fail every time i tried it with factory juices, was afraid to cut the vg down with distilled water, cause i knew that'd kill VGs already somewhat diminished flavor compared to PG. I thought i'd be smart and try a syringe...no such luck, the VG was too thick to get through my refilling syringe doh!

I used to write articles for E-How.com but those had to fit a precice format...writing how-to is a lot easier when you can just type it the way you'd say it...lots more reader friendly in my opinion too.. and thanks for the kind words :)

Steve sent me a few things to test drive with my PCC from the contest (i think) and one of the first things im going to do is flavor reviews on those. Then it'll be how-to videos. lots hopefully.

I'm still tryin to get the hang of the xp windows movie maker, but how hard can it be? its windows after all. I've had a computer since the TRS-80 came out from Radio Shack, and havn't been without one since...XP's Windows Movie Maker will not defeat me! haha.

On an even brighter note, If everything goes according to plan..All of my videos will be available in Youtube HD...which is like Iphone HD in that theyre still smallish, but you can full screen them i guess, and the picture quality is darn good for an application like youtube.
