Cartomizer Burnt Taste?

Hi. I have a question regarding cartomizers.

Having read that an empty cartomizer will produce a burnt taste, I have begun refilling my cartomizers whenever this occurs.

However, most of my used cartomizers, even when soaked, still produce this burnt taste (and smell) In other words, it simply does not go away.

Are the cartos broken/corroded/spent, Or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks. Sneak. :)

EDIT1: Thanks for the replies, people. It seems like the general conclusion is that the cartridges and cartomizers should be refilled before burnout, if possible, since a burnt carto is lost, And that the use of a CartoTank would make this easier to manage.
Additional questions:
Do the tanks ever over-soak, then leak towards battery?
Can burnt cartomizers be saved, perhaps via removal/refitting or washing the filler material?

The secret is in refilling the tank before you get that burnt taste. Once the carto has burned, it's not going to lose that taste. Jyjarvi's suggestion of using a carto tank is a good one. Using a tank lets you see your juice level so you know when to fill up. Also a small tank can last you several hours so there's no fuss involved when you are out and about. Another option you might consider is using one of the clear cartomizers that let you see your juice level.

ok...there are tanks, and there are TANKS. The tanks with the carto in the middle is the type I use. The smaller tanks are like the Clearomizers and Stardusts. I tried those and I didn't care for them, but others really like them. I'd suggest you get like one of each and decide for yourself which you prefer, and then order more after that.

Since I know more about carto tanks, I'll address that. The carto tank holds more juice than the clearomizers. The carto tank uses a cartomizer with a hole punched in it. The juice flows through the hole into the carto and you vape that. The only time a carto tank would over soak is right at the beginning, IF the hole in the carto is too large, or your juice is too thin. I use Boge cartos with one hole and I vape a 70/30 mix, and I don't have any problems with that. I don't know what PV you are using, is the battery sealed? If so, you have no worries, just wipe the juice off. (Most batteries are sealed these days I think) Anyway, next question, can a burnt carto be saved via removal/ refitting or washing. In a word...NO! The way they make cartomizers now, you can't pull the filler out and replace it. Washing it will not remove any burnt taste.

And BTW, there are also CE2 tanks, like the VIVI Nova, where it uses a CE2 as opposed to a cartomizer. So you might try that as well. Find your sweet spot, it's out there, just waiting for ya!;)

You're probably asking if the carto can oversoak - take in too much juice. In theory no. The filler material will naturally wick juice from the tank until it is saturated. At that point, the filler is unable to take in additional juice. But, it is possible to force excessive juice into a carto. This usually happens if you take the top cap off to fill the tank and then the act of putting the top cap back onto the filled tank creates pressure in the tank which forces excessive juice into the carto. This can also push juice out the air hole at the bottom of the carto.

I don't recall anyone ever describing a technique for reviving a really burnt carto. Just toss it and move on.

The tank/ carto will flood if:
the hole in the carto is too large or the juice is too watery.

There are tutorials for removing and cleaning the carto stuffing but a very involved and delicate process. Another reason for failure of cartos is the juice eventually coats/ clogs the element/ coil.
I now use clearomizers and am very happy but when I was using a tank and carto my cartos were lasting a minimum 2 weeks. Realize tanks use more juice for some strange reason. Also there are good and bad tanks. Tank should cost around $10. To save money either buy in bullk or wait for sales. HeathCabin, a registered ECF vendor, just finished an amazing sale. Sign up for vendor newsletters so you are notified of sales.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

THE best tank out there (IMO - I may get stoned for that... LOL) is the Phiniac tank available at Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks. A bit pricier but zero leaks, easy filling with their "tank tool" (available separate for $3), and zero worries about cracking the tank with certain juices such as citrus or cinnamon..................... I have 5 sandblasted ones and I LOVE them!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar problem with the starter kit and all of the blanks I bought in the first couple months. It became like a part time job just trying to keep them filled just so, not too much so that they leaked out of the bottom, or not enough so that they were like a burnt fireplace log while vaping on the way to work. This weekend I threw them all out except the very newest ones, also bought a different brand. I switched to clearomizers in May and am very happy. I do still like to have a couple carts for use on my little batteries tho.

I did the same thing this weekend. As you may notice from my signature, I've been vaping for a little over a month. That's how long it took me to get tired of constantly topping off my cartomizers.
