Hi everyone,

First off sorry for beating this topic like a dead horse since its probably been covered multiple times...anyways onto my question
Ive started vaping about 2 months ago and my current setup is an Ego-T passthrough with a simple clearomizer, just today i picked up a DCT cartomizer to try out - i primed this thing properly and i know ive done it right for a fact, i also let it sit for about 30 to soak. Anyways ive been puffing on it for the past 15 min and i get that awful burning taste, and i know why im getting this is because the wicking inside is dry so i take off the tip and look and it looks really dry even though the tank is full ! Why is it doing this ? if it wicks from the bottom should it always stay moist ? ( i also put a couple drops onto the wicking when i first primed it. im getting tired of this burnt taste with the clearomizers and the cartomizers but is there any way around it ? im using a 70VG/30PG 18mg juice since the PG irritates my throat. If i got a protank that fit ontop of my ego would i still have to worry about this burning problem ? or how can i resolve it going forward...BTW im using a brownish juice

If your liquid is fussy in a carto, it will be fussy in a protank. You can manipulate the protanks wicks, so it is more manageable. Make sure you're priming the carto fully, around 1.2mL of liquid.

I use 3hole smoktech cartomizers and a bullet carto punch. Smoktech cartos filler isn't too tight for most liquids.

You should fill the cartomizer first....

Then put it in the tank.

Then let it sit a minute or 10....

Then try a small short puff.

Once burned the taste doesnt go away.

minimum of 20 drops in carto to fill

make sure that the holes in the side of the carto are not covered by the tank

you can slot cartos with a hacksaw easily, but gently (do it front of a vacuum hose to minimize shavings getting in wick material - WARNING - doing this can damage orings that surround the carto)

you can thin any eliquid with distilled water (not just vg based) always do this with small amounts until you know how much to thin it (you can always add small amounts of unthinned eliquid to thicken it up if needed)

I use 70/30 in a pyrex dct no problems ever.

U said u put a couple drops on the filler, but u need more than a couple, it should look like a slushie.
Then put in the tank and then fill. Check and make sure the filler is still slushie looking, add more juice if needed, then put on drip tip and vape away

So in my opinion you in fact did not prime it correctly.
What cartos are you using?
Only time i ever had problems was with kanger cartomizers. I use smoktechs single coil two hole.

Check out baditude here on ecf and look up his blogs.

Goodluck.

This is what im using, mine has a bit bigger holes where the juice wicks in at the bottom of the tank. If i drip 1.2ml of juice into the cartomizer before filling the tank wont it all get down the air hole and flood it right out ? im not using a needle head on my juice bottles, it has just a drip nipple. This morning i checked the tank again and it was dry so i didnt even bother attempting to take a puff since i was in a rush - since its now " burnt " should i just throw it away ? i think i might drop some money on a ProTank since its better quality and not disposable, what do you guys think ? can any of you link me something with how to fill a protank properly. And final question i think the Ego T is at 3.2 V ? is that too much for what im using...sorry super noob question:blink:

I find with those soft plastic with the silicone ones are finicky. The soaking rule is a little bit funny because I find if you soak it atall, the silicone expands, warps and won't keep a connection. It'll continually pop out, then leak and flood your tank. It's then not functional until you clean and dry the entire tank thoroughly. I suggest the last post and buy yourself a nice glass tank

The cart shouldn't flood if you drip down the sides when you prime it. Drip a drop down the side, turn a quarter turn and repeat. Keep doing this, slowly, so the liquid can absorb until a little starts to come out of the prepunched holes on the side. Continue for a few more drops after that. I would think the burnt tasting cart is toast at this point. Try with a new one.

All tanks are going to have disposable parts. You are going to be replacing a cartomizer with the cartotank or you will be replacing the head in a ProTank, periodically.

Here is a simple Fill do one does that may save you until you can slow down and learn to fill properly.
*Note - Flooding a carto does NOT hurt it*

New Carto
Place finger over 510 connection to seal
Place e-liquid bottle tightly against top(to seal)
Slowly squeeze until liquid starts to dribble from side holes
Stop filling and insert Carto into tank
Remove Dripper from E-liquid bottle
Set tank over bottle and blow excess from center tube
Wipe with napkin
Vape

Properly priming the carto is the most important step in using a carto tank.
No matter what method you use to prime the carto a standard size carto will hold 18 ~ 20+ drops an xl size 35 ~ 40+ drops when primed correctly.

The holes in a DCT carto are too small to wick more than 50/50 juices reliably without thinning or making bigger holes.

A DCT is a dual coil carto, the top coil (see picture below) sits above the holes in the carto.
Thick juices and or heavy / chain vaping will dry the wicking material surrounding the top coil which will then burn.

IMO, a prostank would be a huge step backwards (wrong direction) from a properly functioning carto tank.

Been first filling/ priming cartos this way for years. Adding a touch of distilled water to your high VG juice will aid in proper wicking. Important in the vid below is to push carto down VERY slowly. Takes about a 1 minute.

Edit: Cuz you have a lip on the bottom of carto use the "drip tip/ other end" of carto- works the same.

A prostank is a clearo, it will not wick thick juices any better than the carto you're using now.
I have an extremely low opinion of all the prostank models knockoffs relatives & variants, some folks like them.

I'd ditch the dual coil carto's you're using now and try a single coil with 2 larger holes or slots.
Both Boge & Ikenvape offer carto's with prepunched larger holes or slots.
Not all brand carto's are the same, Ive never had any luck with smoktech carto's, I prefer Ikenvape or Boge.
Since you're using an non vv ego battery I'd try LR (1.8 ish) cartos.

Or change the carto, prime a fresh one correctly, thin your juice with a couple drops of distilled water and try again.
It it difficult to be sure, but, I think the cause is; dual coil + thick juice wicking issuies + low power output = unhappy vaper.
