I just noticed that CASAA has a new Research Fund which is explained here:

researchfundlaunch

I'm wondering if there is any way this information can be posted just like the announcement asking Americans to sign the Petition to the White House (at the top of the forum here no matter what sub-topic you go to)? CASAA only needs $15,000 (within the next month or two) and if 1,500 members give just $10, CASAA would have the amount they needed and in time to hopefully present this to the FDA in late summer.

If we were able to have it posted as an IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT, perhaps there can be daily updates of the amount donated (like there were updates with the amount of peoples that signed the petition).

Edit -- I have already posted on EVERY vaping group I belong to on facebook including some Co-op ones as I think this is very important. Got another member from another forum doing it over in the United Kingdom!

Excellent point Paulette! Smokey Joe or Old Soldier, how about that yellow-band notice? :D

ETA: I sent a PM to OS asking his thoughts on doing the notice. :)

Yes,I will donate to the fund, but I have questions. Since we fund this study, will the FDA,State and local governments,or the news media give the study any credibility? Will we be painted with the black brush of "Industry funded study" and our credibility be questioned? In other words, will we actually be able to use this in our lobbying efforts and will the study even be accepted as an unbiased research paper?

The best "I" can answer this is from the CASAA research grant site that says:

CASAA has secured the interest of an internationally respected professor of environmental and occupational health at a major university to write a review of the existing research on e-cigarette chemistry and put it in perspective what health risks such exposures create (or do not create). This researcher is familiar with tobacco harm reduction and will not be intimidated by pressure from the tobacco control industry, but is not a harm reduction activist, and so cannot be said to be biased. He is known for being an impeccable scientist. These factors will make it difficult for regulators and anti-THR activists to dismiss the analysis.

Remember that the FDA & others expect "us" to do these studies to prove lower harm, etc. (but then cry bias when we do! ).

But at least we may have real data presented in a scientific fashion rather than a bunch of us bloviating about how it's saved our lives. It'll be worth the money if only to educate ourselves so when we speak we can come from a new perspective.

True... that plus all the studies and information already linked on the CASAA.org site. :)

Just listening to a replay of this week's VP Live, and heard that the $15,000 was reached. I hadn't heard this update, and the webpage still shows $3280. If this is true, why wasn't this updated, or an update here maybe? :?: If true, this is very exciting indeed, and the whole community here needs to be informed of this exciting news! :D

I just donated and the site now says they have obtained over $18,000.00 in research donations. And CASAA thanks everyone for that support. Despite seeing that news before I donated, CASAA got a substantial donation from all that money I have saved since I quit smoking. To me, it was chump change in the greater scheme of improved health, saving a pile from quitting, and the fact that we do have to do our own research if we are ever going to take a fair poke at big pharma and the gubbermint in this fight. That isn't crowing, or it isn't meant to be. It's my perspective on what I used to blow on smoking, and represents how much I do not want to have to use a "pharmaceutical alternative" or relapse into smoking should the FDA really want to pull the plug on vaping. It's worth it.

Please bump this thread when you donate to keep awareness alive.

And congrats to us all on obtaining over 27,000 signatures for the White House petition!
