I love you guys! And for the record I modded one of the 2 that I bought; Correctly I might add last week. I still haven't tried it however. I suppose if you haven't taken one apart and studied the Velocity you wouldn't notice the other fail. Notice there are only 4 threads where it connects with the positive post. Zero adjustability so when your bushings get a little wear and begin to recede you will have to replace them, there is no room to shim. One other issue: Avid swears by 304 stainless for everything without exception and mentioned a 1.65mm bore in the m3 pin. I wouldn't go that big without using 316 SS for fear of tearing the screw. M3 has a minor diameter of 2.256mm subtract that 1.65 and that leaves very little tensile strength to hold that huge positive "L" piece. Wall thickness is .606mm/2 or .303mm.

All of this goes into account when figuring out what I can do to bottom feed an atty and also the reason I don't drill m2 pins.

Maybe it's just me but I think they did that to be like the two prototypes I sent them. The prototypes were similar but had a Marquis type top cap well relationship that doesn't leak. The velocity has huge and low airholes; big difference! I can't wait to see the reviews on the pin.

Whats really bad about that chimney/pin is that it will discourage first time bottom feeders away. They won't know what the real deal is all about. Unless they come here of course [emoji6]

Hey guys I would like you input to see if you are smarter than Avid. I'm betting most of you are. The Velocity pin has just been announced. View attachment 458208

My question is: Do you see the problem? I love Avid/Insignia, job security.... And this comes out three weeks after I modded 2 sent in prototypes that they sent me. Let's count the FAIL.

Can't understand why they made the center pin so tall. Should be relatively easy to cut to length though, shouldn't it? With the elevated "L"-shaped center pin, I think there will always be a little pool of e-liquid after a squonk with this atty - it may never be a safe pocket carry. But the bottom air flow holes are something like 9 mm from the floor of the juice well and can be completely closed off. And the coils, properly built, will always be well elevated with dangling wicks.

Keeping my place on Tom's interest list for the Velocity. Still think this thing has squonking potential, at least for me. Heading downstairs to build one of these bad boys for some relaxing sub-ohm dripping. My "still in the box" Mutation X V4, Production, Twisted Messes and Doge X V2 just got bumped down the waiting list (sometimes I think I belong in a 12 step program).

How are you guys building your Mantas? Coils high and tight to the posts or low and almost touching the deck? Or just tight to the posts? My first build ended up frying a negative lead cause it touched the top cap!!
Right now I have the coils low, maybe a mm or less above the deck.

Here's a crappy phone pic of my build

It's pretty level with the air holes on the inside of the top cap, and the pic shows how far from the posts I've been able to get away with. Any further out and I end up hitting the top cap putting it back on.

Thank you!

I'm gonna try something like that tomorrow.

Been playing with a Velocity RDA for the past couple of hours and I’m in love.

Spent 5 or 6 minutes building it (0.45 ohm, dual Claptons, Japanese cotton), part of that time marveling over how blinking simple it is to build with the dead bottom set screws and the dual hole positive and negative posts. You couldn’t clip a coil lead if you tried (maybe with pure lead wire, but you’d be dead soon, anyways). Wicks need to be long to reach the bottom of the juice well.

Vaping it: the air hole adjustment is perfect. Tighten the atty on your mod and then twist the top sleeve to find your preference. The bottom (inner) sleeve is locked in place, so no fighting with it - spin the top sleeve CW or CCW and nothing loosens up. Find your preferred draw, set it, and forget it. Cloud chase, flavor chase - it spans the range of what I’m looking for.

This thing is damn near perfect for me so far. I really want a killer BF version of this, Tom.
