I signed a few petitions a while back. Now I get a couple a day in my inbox. Most of them are about individuals who have suffered injustice, life sentences for minor drug crimes, children who have been denied health care, and so forth. This morning I got one titled "Ban vaping devices".

It was full of nonsense about the dangers of juul's. One comment said, I've heard of lungs bursting and devices exploding in people's faces. And the kids have trained themselves to inhale but not exhale so they can do it in class. Seems they are widely used for stuff that can't be mentioned so they can get high in class, and right in front of their parents.

It read like the work of a child who had come across some of the horror story coverage. The purpose of the petition was to ask Them to stop taking half measures and ban vaping devices completely.

I was glad to see it only had 19 signatures as of this morning.

Who the hell would actually fall for something that asinine? At this point in time I would have to assume that almost everyone knows someone who vapes or at least has seen someone doing it.

It would seem like lung explosions would probably be in the news if it was actually happening. Seems like people are doing anything they can to demonize a relatively safe activity, but don't seem to have any issues with their kids drinking dangerous amounts of candy flavored vodka on the weekends.

I signed a petition via that web service a year and a bit ago. After getting more than one a day after that, like you, I unsubbed from the service and 'turned off' the email address they had for me. I use a DEA (not Drug Enforcement Agency..) service, spamgourmet dot com, and have my own domain so I have a lot of control over which emails I want and don't want to get. I'm glad I discontinued receiving emails from change dot org 'cause if I had gotten that anti-vaping one it would have made me very, uh, angry.

Just took another look at their page, they just broke 300 signatures. That's pretty feeble for change dot. Maybe folks just aren't that gullible. But I have a feeling a petition with the same goal but written in a more grownup way might get a decent amount of support.

Someone needs to google "epigenetics" and realize that absolutely EVERYTHING affects a child's development, and yes, including nicotine.

But the idea of "something affecting a child's brain!" always makes me want to go, "The effects of a helicopter parent's parenting are probably worse, and more pervasive, than ANY drug a teen could imbibe.

I know lots of drugs, I have yet to come across one that turns a kid into a whiny, enabled, entitled member of society, who thinks they should get As if their mommies go in and complain, and who think the government should give them a free pass on, well, everything.

I'm sorry but that statement has probably way more validity behind it than the "exploding lungs" thing. Even though I just made it up.

I hate change.org, it's like social media with a PETITION. I'm afraid petitions are effective, as long as you take the same stance as the government. I mean, okay, sometimes they work for some stuff, very occasionally. I will sign petitions I believe in but I'm afraid it's with a dark, gloomy sort of skepticism and I usually think at the end, "Now I'm on some government black list or something."

    Don't mind me it's Sunday.

Change.org is a great site. They are catering toward of needs of anyone to petition against about anything. Against Trump, against Obama, against vaping, against not vaping. We should not question good intentions of Change.org. Just vote, and be happy.
It would be a lot better if it allowed down-votes as well up-votes ("signatures"). At some point I "signed" a petition on there (probably Lessifer's) and I've gotten a number of e-mails suggesting other petitions I might be interested in. Well, a quite a few of them have been for things like this that I'm totally opposed to, and I find it frustrating that there's no way to express my disagreement.
