Chantix works

I guess I am one of the very few that Chantix worked for...Took it for 10 days before couldnt stand the analogs any more, yes had some weird dreams (some very fun/randy ones too!). In all took Chantix for 3 months.

Was a pack or two a day smoker for 36 years, started vaping 3 weeks ago (0 nic) cause I feel the tempation to start smoking again. I know Chantix doesnt work for everyone, but I think it worked well for me.

Chantix made me so nauseous I couldn't move. My whole body swelled up with fluid and every joint/muscle in my body ached. I kept taking it, think I would get used to it, but it just got worse. Did I want to smoke? Not really, I was too busy wanting to die.....lol.

Chantix has thousands upon thousands of consumer complaints in the US. That should set off huge alarm bells to anyone thinking about using it.

The reported side-effects are very disturbing...

Among the psychological side effects reported to the FDA were 525 reports of hostility or aggression, 397 cases of possible psychosis, 224 reports of heart trouble, 41 cases of homicidal thinking and 28 suicides. There were also 173 serious injuries, including traffic accidents often associated with unconsciousness, dizziness, muscle spasms, or mental confusion, as well as reports of severe skin conditions in patients.

In May 2008 the Institute for Safe Medication Practices issued a report detailing Chantix adverse event reports to the FDA. The study specifically cited 224 reports of potential heart-rhythm disturbances, 372 reports of possible movement disorders and 544 reports of likely glycemic problems, including diabetes. There were also reports of traffic accidents and falls linked to Chantix.

The FDA received more accounts of serious side effects tied to Chantix in the fourth quarter of 2007 than from any other drug.

I am another one who it did not work for. It was fine until I had to start taking the stronger pill. I broke out in hives pretty much on my entire body! It was a very scary ordeal. Never had that happen before in my life.

Chantix gave me depression and suicidal thoughts. I also had the pain in my shoulder and could not raise my arm to brush my hair or pick up anything with out shooting pain, it lasted for months.

I would not take Chantix if my life depended on it. Generally, I avoid doctors whenever possible. (Given I am never sick, it's easy enough to do so.) On those rare occasions where I am sick enough to go to a doctor (once a decade maybe), my first question upon receiving a prescription is 'how much does it cost?' The doctors never know, so I request a nurse to call and find out. (I always laugh at those people who complain about precription cost when they pick it up at the pharmacy. Isn't that a bit late to be discovering the price?) However, this strategy is not just about cost, even if it is true I will not pay extorted prices for drugs still under patent. If a drug is higher than I wish to pay, I have a doctor replace the prescription with a generic. Not only do I get a more affordable drug, but a generic drug has been on the market long enough to be out from under a patent, which means more time has passed to discover any bizarre or dangerous side effects.

From the first day I heard a possible side effect of Chantix was blindess, I knew I would NEVER EVER use it. These days, I HIGHY recommend snus as being far more affordable than Chantix and most definitely far safer, as the science easily demonstrates.

I tried chantix last year. It made me sicker than a dog. I was so nauseated all the time and felt like puking every minute while I was on it. I gave it two long weeks and then I stopped taking it.

I also tried Wellbutrin. That made me crazy in the head. I was crying at everything, which I never do. I had crazy dreams that seemed so real. My hubby was freaking out from my behavior. I stopped that after 2 weeks also.

I had a primary and an ear specialist who both made the mistake of pushing me to take Chantix while they were both treating me for an incurable balance disorder. They didn't read that of the 166 side effects listed that half of them increase or can actually lead to some sort of balance disorder. In fact, they never bothered looking up anything about the drug. I always thought a doctor is supposed to know what they are prescribing you.

Needless to say, I ended up in the hospital as a result. It's a very dangerous drug and I know it works for whomever it has worked for because I had a few friends that took it and quit smoking but for a lot of people it won't.

Chantix boasts that it has a high rate of making people quit, the problem is alot of the people who have taken it did quit but started back up on the habit and ended up smoking more than they even did before.

It's a very tricky drug. And what a lot of people need to realize is that unlike the patch - you can't simply take it off your body to stop the symptoms. When I took it, I actually had to take half the required doses because my body could not handle the full dose and even so, it still harmed me.

I'm not sure if it's really worth the risk no matter how healthy you are with zero medical history. However, congrats to those whom it worked for.

That would have stopped my smoking for good. I am a very rational and calm person but the thought of suicide was overwhelming - and I have no idea why.

I too was on Chantix and was so sick I could hardly do anything. E-Cigs are the only thing that got me off of analogs!

I don't know about others, but I would much prefer dying of a smoking-related disease to blowing my brains out because of a drug. Of all the ways we can leave this world, I believe this is the hardest for loved ones to cope with.

What about those of us who don't want to quit.. i really enjoy smoking and have no desire to quit.. that's why i love vaping! i don't want to be forced into quitting!!

Your story illustrates the greediness of pharmaceutical companies and the ridiculous stigma smoking has in the medical community. Vaporizers are a far better option for treating smoking addiction and they actually already have one in production (produced by a pharmaceutical company of course).

made me puke as well............I also accidentally took one shortly after I started vaping. It was the worst day of my life. Chantix didn't work, vaping didn't work because the nicotine receptors in your brain are blocked by the chantix.

I'm going to have to raise the BS flag on this post, Chantix has to build up in your system for several days before it actually starts blocking the nicotine receptors, in fact you're supposed to continue smoking for the first 7 days that you take it, you just gradually want to smoke less as it has less effect on you.

I quit using Chantix, 3 times, the third time stuck as I had proper motivation to not start back up. I haven't had a cigarette since January, and didn't start vaping until may.

It doesn't work for everyone, but it does work for lots of people.
