Charger Lights Flashing Red&Green alternately, and rapidly...?

I just picked up a Power Tube (Lava Tube) : PowerTube - Variable Voltage Starter Kit

I put the battery to charge, with the supplied charger of course and went to check on it a few hours later and the light on it was flashing red and green alternately and rapidly...what does that mean, if anyone knows? And are the batteries that come with the kit I got (in the link) protected or not? I'm starting to read alot about unprotected and wondering now, are these safe?

Another thing is that the battery seemed to have died overnight while leaving in the unit. I made sure the power was off, and in the morning...nothing. I did use it strait out of the box so maybe it was close to dead already but it didnt seem like it...and the unit itself read out 3.9 v (not sure how charged that is).

It means that it's a cheap charger. My cheap charger does that as well. With the Powertube there is a way to check the voltage of the battery. I would check it. If it's fully charged it should be around 4.1-4.2v fully charged.
