I ran across the information for Vapefest in the last week or so. Its the first show that's been near enough, (7 hour drive or so?), so I made reservations. I have no clue what's going on with these two groups and not enough time to listen to a podcast to find out. Can someone fill me in? After reading a thread one another board, (unrelated to Vapefest - but the board is advertising the event), I already had reservations. Maybe it would be best to just stay home?
I'll try to fill you in as quick as I can...
There are two meetups during the weekend beginning on Friday March 30th - one is called Vapebash, the other is called Vapefest.

Vapefest has an entry fee to attend the event. Vapebash is free. Hotel rooms are also slightly less expensive at Vapebash.
The reason Vapefest has an entry fee is because it is a fundraiser for the National Vapers Club, and a study they are trying to do called IVAQS.
Many people support the NVC - and many others condemn it. My own two cents: I would not give a penny to NVC ever again. I will be attending Vapebash and making a contribution to CASAA as I feel that is a better way to support the fight to keep vaping legal.
This is the point at which brevity is no longer an option. You would have to do some research (or listen to the podcast) and form an opinion from there. I can assure you that listening to the podcast would take less time than sorting through months of forum posts.
What it comes down to is this: if you think supporting the NVC is good, go to Vapefest and give them money. If you think NVC is bad, don't go there and don't give them your money.
If you don't care about any of this stuff, well, pick one or pick both. Vapebash is free, Vapefest is not, and they are close enough that you can easily go to both.
The only option that I would say would be a bad idea no matter what is to not be in Chicago that weekend.
Again, I'm trying to be brief, but more research is probably the best way for you to figure out if you want to donate to the NVC or not.
