After all that machinery, let's have some horsepower!

IMG_5952_zpsfaf14ecb.jpeg

This was at the Stuart Horse Trials, about an hour's drive from here but a very big show. This kind of show is what's known as a 3-day event. The horses compete in 3 different phases: dressage, stadium jumping (going over jumps in a ring), and cross country (going over jumps and galloping out in the open over a course). This was taken in the cross country phase.

I'll add something that you might consider fun. Did you ever want to ride a cross country course but were afraid to? Now certain riders attach a camera to their helmet, and you, too, can experience the cross country course at Stuart.

Preliminary Cross Country Ride on Helmet Cam - Stuart HT - YouTube

Note that the horse and rider go over some jumps but pass by others. This is because the whole course is set up for different levels of competition, some harder than others. Not only does the rider need to memorize which way to go for a route of miles, but she has to know which jumps are hers and which she shouldn't go over. I can't remember my cell phone number! I'd get lost trying something like this. Not to say anything about jumping over such big, solid jumps. You really don't get an idea of their size from above like that. I stood near that one that went up steps, and it was a monster. The hill was very steep, and the steps happened one right after the other. Maybe this photo will give you a better idea than the helmet cam.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Gotta share this one, it covers so many things -

FIVE RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE

1. Money cannot buy happiness, but it's more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes, than on a bicycle.

2. Forgive your enemy, but remember the bugger's name.

3. If you help someone when they're in trouble, they will remember you when they're in trouble again.

4. Many people are alive only because it's illegal to shoot them.

5. Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then neither does milk.

Bonus: Condoms don't guarantee safe sex. A friend of mine was wearing one when he was shot by the woman's husband.

Great rules, Awsum. I actually laughed out loud at some of them.

It started out sunny this morning, with a blue sky and puffy white clouds, but then it became overcast and even snowed a little. Finally, the landlord's son came to plow the driveway. He's always in a hurry, and I wanted to move my car so he could plow the area where it had been sitting, making him very impatient. I think he hates me for being home instead of off somewhere with my car, being gainfully employed. Not that I'm happy about it either, but what is, is.

So here's a waterfall to cheer up by. You can see how deep the gorges around here are in this photo. In fact, this is not the deepest gorge nor the deepest spot in this gorge. All the precipitous drops make for great views from above. They also make it easy for Cornell students who flunk out to jump into them in June. There are a couple every year.

I see you are from SW Ohio. Are you far from the Amish area? Went down there from Akron (sis) a couple times! It was fun. Wish I could recall the place we had brunch. Big pond outside the window we sat at - geese being fed out there. Yummy food!

I live in the Greater Cincinnati area....on the Ohio/Kentucky border. It's not a long drive to Amish country. I've only been there once when I went with some friends. I agree on the good food. Their handmade items are great too. When we were there I bought a doll-sized rocking chair, even tho I didn't have a doll, and put it on the hearth in the living room. My dil didn't say anything when she saw it but she bought me a doll for Christmas that year. lol

Here's another for your old mate. This one's in better shape. It was in a small, local 4th of July parade in Groton, NY.

That looks a lot like the tractor my daddy used to work our vegetable fields;double front tires and all. Except cleaner:D. I wonder if ours was red? ever?

You liked the helmet cam, did you? Here's another if you want to try riding a course that's quite a bit harder. Rolex's cross country might be the most challenging one in the US. Also, the rider does a voice-over to explain his strategy and describe the jumps, so you get more insight into what's going on.

2012 Rolex Kentucky CCI**** - Helmet Cam w Analysis - Running Order and Doug Payne - YouTube

I was so fascinated by the helmet cam that I watched a few more. This was one of them. The rider answered a lot of questions I had from watching the others.

Heyo! Just finished taking apart the laptop and cleaning it. I felt a slight difficulty on the air exit so i took it apart in pieces.

Some new laptops are made this way to be broken easily (programmed obsolescence), unless you know how to overcome this problem..

I think that's probably what my old computer needs. I turn it off to let it rest occasionally, and it seems to be working again. I think it was getting overheated. My theory (though I don't really know what I'm talking about) is that it's clogged with dust, preventing the fan and ventilation from working efficiently, letting it overheat easily. There's a local guy who fixes computers, and I may ask him to take it apart and clean it. I remember when my brother did that with a computer I no longer have now, and there was a lot of dust inside.

Heat is the major problem on laptops. What's the brand and model number?

It's clogged for sure, you need to take apart the whole laptop, clean it and use new conductive pastes (arctic silver etc).

My current laptop now is made this way so it clogs every two months if you do not clean it bye bye. I keep it clean and it fills itself with dust.
My older one (HP probook) needed only once per year and i've used it rain, cold, heat, snow, wind, dust and it's still going strong.

Depends on what you buy.

And yes you have to get it cleaned, WOMEN usually clogg them faster because they use them directly on beds or clothing underneath, lint get's all over inside. (fluffy clothes :D :D )

I just hope i get a new probook sometime in the future :(

The computer with a problem is not a laptop. It's an eMac. Maybe 10 years old, never cleaned. I didn't know this is more of a problem with laptops, but it makes sense. However, I use my laptop (my new computer and the one I mostly use now) on my desk a lot, though I have taken it in to another room and put it on my lap. Mine is a couple of years old, and it's never had a problem so far. Maybe Macs are tougher than PCs? I like the way they function better, and they are expensive, so I guess they're made pretty well. All of mine have lasted and lasted, and I got rid of them when I needed to upgrade programs and they were no longer capable. I got this laptop because I thought my eMac was on its way out, and also because it's so much more portable. It's really convenient.

I keep both of our laptops sitting on top of dual fan laptop pads, just to keep them cooler. I will say the new ones run a lot cooler, Intel, than the old AMD models we had. Even so, I plan on blowing them out every six months or so just to be safe or if we notice any increase in exhaust air temperature. I have a desktop that runs non-stop but it has a pile of fans in it and I routinely clean the heat sink/fan on the CPU just to play it safe. Heat kills PCs and laptops.

MAC? Jesus! Take it away take it away from me!
No MAC's are useless these days (they were useless at any age but anyway :D ). It's just because it's larger and can take more clogging than laptops, 10 years without anything is enough.
They are expensive not because of their technology, it's all chinese cheap and tricks that's all. You pay the design and some good looking features.

I hate anything that has to do with apple, macs are good for home use but i have hundreds of specific software and hardware to connect to, mac's are not what you think when it comes to hardware connections. They are good looking but that's it. For me at least.

Yeap newer intel's run cooler and are much more tolerant. AMD still produce more heat but they are ok these days. Fan pads are good ideas indeed.

The problem is on the customer side, people need bigger graphics cards to play games etc but in a laptop were heat dissipation is a problem if you place a big graphics card then you can also use the device as a stove (place a pan on it and start frying stuff).
HP's DV6000 series for example was a big hole on the water, BIG graphics card and poor heatsink design/heat dissipation killed DV's like flies, a friend of me who repairs them still gets 4-5 DV's everyday with burned VGA cards.

Home use is all my computers get, and Macs have always worked wonderfully for me.
