The Americans living in Italy used to say that FIAT means Fix It Again Tony. I'm curious to see if the new 500's are any better. And I can't call it a 500, it will always be a Cinquecento to me and the Italians.

Isn't it amazing how far cars have come? I'm still driving my 95 Jeep. It is still a standard old car with manual windows/locks. There are some electronics on it, but not as much as the new ones.

Some of the new electronics is just more to break, IMHO, but I sure do like the windows you can roll up and down from the driver's side. How many times have you had to talk out of the passenger-side window, and leaning across to roll down the window is a real pain? And pushing a single button on your car keys to unlock the doors is a convenience, too. Another modern feature I enjoy is the Seek feature on the car radio.

We drive a '92 Toy 4runner, a '78 short bed Chevy pick up and an '87 [or is that '82] Chevy 454 long bed. Hubby finally bought a "new" car that was a couple of years old and it is a 2008 Honda Fit. Great gas mileage, real A/C!

He knows how to work on cars so that is why we stick to the old tried and true vehicles.

Glad you found juice, Deb. Sounds like you are having quite the summer hot and wild summer.

I'm up and getting moving. I have a house to clean and then I am thinking about running into Carson City. I'm already halfway there and I could use some dog food. Hate to get too low before getting a back up. If I don't feel good I'll just hit the local supermarket for bread, milk and eggs and come straight home.

It is foggy and 32 degrees out so we are on the cusp of freezing but Hubby made it to work no problem. Hopefully by the time I leave at 8:30 it will have warmed up just a tad.

I tried to get some extra rest yesterday but the propane lady showed up. I got up and waved her off before she got in the gate since we still have half a tank. Then the dachshund lady came by in both directions and Rusty had a fit both times. Finally, a huge cargo plane went straight over the house at like 200 feet. Even Hubby woke up at that point and I decided nap time wasn't going to happen!

yes sandy I like it to...I know you said there not sweet...but I just want to reach in and grab one...yummy..

You can pretend they're table grapes, then, even though I suspect they are wine grapes, since I took the photo at a winery. I didn't realize most wine grapes are horrible tasting. They are very bitter, compared to some like Concord grapes, which are the purple ones they make grape jelly from. They can make wine from them, too, but it's sickeningly sweet to my taste. I like dry reds best.

FIRST POST EVER in this thread ! So... whatcha wanna chat about ? I am totally down for a couple of burritos while sippin' on some kool aid & vapin' sum RY4 - I'm crazy like that.

No, but seriously - I have been hating Iceland more & more as I have ventured further down this beutiful world of vaping... Because of money & stuff - but then, the other day - I realized ONE thing that Iceland has that you don't ! Cheapest water & electricity available =D

(If you point out to me the obvious fact that the money I save on that is less than a fraction of what I have to spend extra on getting my vaping gear, I am going to END you)

But not really... I'm sorry. It's almost 7 AM & I pulled an allnighter... Which makes me hyper. I do apologize.

BUT - so, you don't drink the tap water at your house ? Do you buy it, like bottled at the store ? Please tell me you buy the water named Iceland =D

Welcome to Voltville Gummi! Iceland! Wow!!! the land of ice and fire!

I don't believe in buying something that I don't have to... namely water. Just plain filtered tapwater for my house. If and when I get bottled water for emergencies... it's Deerpark spring water for me!

I agree with Awsum... best start stocking up on vape supplies before our FDA crackdown around April.

I agree. My work truck has manual windows. I cannot tell you how many times citizens run up to my passenger side window and try to have a conversation. I have to do the old arm trick of showing them that I don't have automatic windows. It's really kind of dangerous too, I have to step out into traffic or worse, the citizen comes over to the drivers side and stands in traffic. I really wish city/state governments would rethink buying the vehicles with manual everything. It really isn't safe.

I rented a new Ford Fiesta last year. I was amazed that there were no car keys, just the fob. I'm not sure if I really liked it or not, being used to having keys. I actually left the fob in my pocket when I returned the car and then had to run back to give it back! I suppose it would be something to get used to after awhile.

I hear you on the grapes. I went to a few local wineries. They let us taste the grapes. Euuuww. Not a fan of wine grapes, but I do enjoy the final product of them! I've always been a red wine drinker. I really like my reds in the winter. I usually end up switching back to white in the summer, to have something cool to drink.

Another photo. This is the underside to a small bridge near my house. In fact, late at night, when the world is still, I can hear the hum of a car going over it from here. The road surface is a metal grid, which cast an interesting shadow on the underside of the bridge, so of course, I had to capture the image with my camera.

Well that explains why I never liked wine... at all. I will only take a SIP of communion wine in church.

Quote from Awsum140 "Back in my "youth" my car of choice was the Triumph TR3 or TR4, had a few of each between 17 and 20. I used to get three people into one of them all the time, and they're both two seat rag top sports cars. The back seat, if you can call it that, is a space maybe eighteen inches wide the width of the car and whoever got stuck back there found it to be totally unpadded. On the other hand, with three people in it even though it had very little ground clearance it went through snow with no problem other than the grill would pack with snow and make it overheat. Wish I had one of them now, they were great fun. "

WOW, not only a lot of chat this AM, but TR fans. I bought a 1966 TR4 back in the 80s for $500 because it ran. Other than that it was all rusted out and needed a LOT of work. I rebuilt almost everything myself except the engine which I had redone and converted to use unleaded fuel. I loved that little car, and it never left me stranded on the road EVER. I think I put another $1500 into the car, drove it for three years and sold it for $2500.00. The guy who bought it wrecked it two months after he bought it.

If I was 10years younger I would buy another one in a heartbeat. I found one last year "Fully Restored" to show condition, but just could not bring myself to buy it. Mine was not really too tempermental, just had to balance the SU Carbs every once in awhile, but it did leak oil, even after the engine was rebuilt - they had poor seals in the transmission. Thanks for the memories Awsum.

A comment about key fobs, no key, cars. They remind me of the "just wave your credit/debit card" at the card reader. Both can be easily read with a laptop or tablet and obtain all the information needed to steal your identity or your car. Some may be harder to "crack" than others, but still can be cracked and duplicated without having the card or "fob", just a recording of the signal. I'll take the old swipe card and key operated car, just a little more secure, although if someone wants to steal my identity or car they can still be stolen. I just hope LifeLock does its job.

One of my favorite cars was a 1964 Jaguar Mark X. Six seater, actually seating for five 2x3, with tray tables in the back of the front seats, air conditioned, burlwood dash, lots of real chrome and extremely comfortable. It handled really well for such a big car and once it got over about 30mph it was really quick. The big disadvantage was that it had positive ground while the rest of the car world has negative ground. It was hard upgrading the audio system, but it sure was a nice, comfortable, relatively economical, car. If I remember correctly, it was a 6+ liter inline six with dual overhead valves in an aluminum head with a cast iron block. The guy that owned it before me was a pilot and had replaced all the cables with aircraft stainless control cables and a lot of the wiring with aircraft grade wire. The coil was a 60KV aircraft coil so it always fired right up. Back then, I could get parts and service for it very easily, now I wouldn't even know where to start, although I remember having to order fan belts directly from Jaguar in England which was kind of a pain, and expensive.

All this reminiscing about old cars provoked me to post some from that same 4th of July parade that I already posted photos of. This first one is older than I remember, I think, but maybe someone can ID it and remember this kind in their past.

Here's another oldie.

This is more like the cars I remember from my childhood, though I do remember running boards. I used to sit on the running boards of cars parked along the street to put on my roller skates, which were the metal kind you clipped to your shoes and used a skate key to tighten.

The first one, a truck, is a Ford. The last one is a Mercury. Not sure what the one in the middle is.

Two "news" items for everyone -

1 - As of January 27, 2013, retailers and websites are permitted to add up to a 4% surcharge if you pay using your credit card. This fee was formally paid by the seller/retailer, but a recent court case has permitted the charge to be passed on to consumers. It would seem to me, in my mind anyway, that the prices already contained that fee so any fee passed on is just more profit for them and cost to us, just sayin.

2 - In 2014 a little publicized "feature" of Obama Care will permit insurers to charge smokers 50% more than nonsmokers for the same health insurance policy. Remember, we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it.
