I must apologize for intruding:

I lurk - a lot - but I don't want to intrude in places I'd not be welcome. I'm not an SI user but that has nothing to do with SI....

I am, however, drawn to this particular thread.

I've been a huge fan of both Blues and Rave from elsewhere and it has been a bit of a joy to find them back here. But... I don't want to end up butting in to places where I'd not be welcome.

I've discovered all kinds of rather interesting things about horses that I never knew before (when I was taking riding lessons, I was stuck with the hugest horse in the barn and she really hated me - but we worked it out).

I once had a cat (the greatest cat the world has ever known) that sat atop a post on Halloween. Nearly twenty cats on the ground in the leaves below him scared the crap out of every little kid that came to the door. He sat there and demanded pets - well, suggested....

It's your forum... At this point, I wonder if I'd be welcome......

This forum isn't exclusive to anyone that I know of. Just come on in and get into the mix. I felt like a stranger coming in to a family meeting at first, but then I decided to crash the party so to speak. :) Don't feel like an intruder, you are welcome here!

Up until recently, I don't think smokers were paying higher premiums for health insurance. I believe this is why insurance companies are now trying to lump all forms of nicotine into the smoking basket. It is a money maker for them. They are trying to up their already outrageous profits and bonuses for executives to an even higher level.

I think it is outrageous to not have every American covered by some sort of health benefits. I also think that the current health system is so bad that I don't know if we can fix it.

I feel the same way. I had "free" health care in the service. I could go to the doctor any time for anything. As a matter of fact, they would tell us when we needed to go to the dentist!

We pay for so much health care, yet this country lags behind other countries. I'd rather see everyone be able to go to a doctor and stop having to sit in emergency rooms for hours to get a prescription filled or be seen for the flu.

That is what is frustrating to me. We spend so much here but not based on science or compassion too often. While health care workers certainly deserve to make a living, I do not think a health care system can be based strictly on a capitalistic framework.

Thanks, Awsum, for bringing this to my attention. I'm not sure how dangerous smart meters are, and I read up a little on it, and no one else seems to be, either -- see Smart Meter Wars | EnergyBiz -- but they certainly shouldn't jail people for objecting. I think the local police just didn't know what to do. Sort of like a parent with a defiant teenager. Do you just let it go, maybe provoking worse defiance of the law later, or do you come to blows over it? It's something every parent has probably had to deal with, though not to such extremes, possibly. And as I read, I thought of other questions, like the hours I spend by my computer, which is not plugged in to the Internet but receives its signal wirelessly. And cell phones, which were mentioned. And all those other wireless devices people use. Might there be a cumulative effect? And, even if some of the radio transmissions are sporadic, such as using your microwave oven, might the smart meters be transmitting more frequently or constantly? And how many people does it really affect? There are people sensitive to all sorts of things, which doesn't mean we should ban their general use, if the percentage of people is small. Some of this may even be in your list of overprotecting people. I've heard of cases where people who lived under power lines had problems, and others had problems with those huge windmills on mountaintops that generate wind power. People can believe any problem they experience is from something like that, when it might just be seasonal allergies or whatever. Till studies are done, no one knows.

So the question is, should we go ahead with stuff that could possibly be a safety concern for some people? For everyone? Should we let this stuff happen before scientific studies have been done on the safety? Is this a bit like the current controversy over vaping?

Sandy, you're missing an important aspect of the smart meter. It allows "real time" monitoring of your power consumption. So, theoretically right now but under development, someone in an office somewhere can decide you're using too much power and cut your supply down. The same is true of the "smart thermostats" that power companies are pushing. Personally, if I can pay the electric bill I'll keep my house at the temperature I want it at when I want it and not let someone else, who "knows better" make that decision for me. On top of that, there is a problem with some of those meters and they have been responsible for numerous house fires where they were installed in PA, not far from me.

On another note that 4% credit card surcharge also applies to debit cards.

Health care may be expensive here and could always use improvement, but people come here from all over the world to get medical care here for a reason, it's the best available.

Someone being willing to give you whatever drugs and surgeries are available might not be the right thing to do for you.

Take, for instance, my possible (but not probable) arm surgery. This comes down to not only trusting the health care providers to give you good advice but to every person researching their particular case and deciding what's best. That's not always an easy decision, as I've found out and as you all know from hearing every detail.

Healthcare issues are a problem, part of that problem is people abusing the system. For example just last month a patient was admitted 10 times because they said they were suicidal. They were no more suicidal than I am but we were obligated to take them.If we didn't and they killed themselves the hospital would be held liable. Those costs add up. This person every time they are admitted thinks they are at the Hilton. This person is as able to work as we are, they just prefer not to. Its people like this that has helped to mess up healthcare.

Hey gang, lots of chat, new people, old cars, and NEW devices I see:laugh:

I sent PMs to Lizzie and Debra because I bought an Ego Vamo Stainless Steel which has VV and VW, takes 18650 batteries at believe this 2000Mah, which should last a loooong time. Exhale Vapors has them for $46.00 delivered using a 40% off coupon which I can't find the code just this moment. I still needed to buy batteries, a charger, and an adaptor for all of my 808 SI gear, but after reading at least a hundred posts from current users it seems to be a great little MOD with all of the features of the ProVari at 1/3 the price. It arrived today, but the batteries and charger are not due until monday, so I have a LARGE paper weight unitl they arrive.

Poor Wabbit - I was fortunate and got my batteries before my Provari:) I got my Vision Vivi Novas the same day as my Provari so I was charged up and ready to go. Then, the farrier showed up before I could rip my package open and start vaping. Ain't that the way it goes! By the time I had gotten the horse put away and the critters fed it had been two or so hours of anticipation:)

This reminds me of when I lived in Calif. and there was a drought. We were surcharged heavily if we used more water than they deemed necessary for a family of a certain size. We conserved water how we could, within reasonable limits, turning the water off while we brushed our teeth till we needed it to rinse, etc. There were people with swimming pools who were charged heavily for overusing water, and they published their names in the paper. I think it was necessary to put pressure on people to conserve water at that time, and when the drought ended, we could use as much water as we wanted. I doubt the electric companies will want to curtail use unless it's really important, but I suppose if people won't conserve on their own, then shutting it down so power can go to important places like hospitals might be an option. I don't think they will arbitrarily shut your power down. I think there'd have to be some important reason to do it. Like the drought in Calif, which no one would have paid attention to if not for the expense of using more water than necessary.

But don't you think there's something psychologically wrong with a person like that? What? Why do they want to beat the system rather than working? I mean, I don't. My life is stable this way, and living like that would be unsettling, to say the least. Maybe this person is a sociopath/psychopath? Is that why they do it?

All I can think of is that other countries have health care that costs a heck of a lot less than ours, covers everyone fairly uniformly and must have a certain portion of persons that don't want to work - so why can't the greatest country in the world figure out how to pull it together and help one another? I don't have the answer.

Bwhare, feel free to jump into the mix, the more the merrier!

As far as a "smart meter" or "smart thermostat" is concerned I just see it as another intrusion into my privacy and how I freely choose to live. There is far too much information on all of us that is readily available and adding to that pile is not a good idea. In the end, that meter will be able to track your use profile and what appliances you own among many other things, is that really necessary for the common good? Given the lack of security that data seems to have in general it seems a little disquieting to have it routinely collected and stored by some quasi governmental or governmental agency when it has no real purpose that is being revealed, at least. The common good can all too easily turn into the common downfall.

Here's another thing about the old cars that my mom showed me when I was a little kid. Maybe you will find it interesting. Remember the old Mercury dimes? When you turn it over, my mom said you could see a Ford behind a fence with a fallen tree. Do you see it?

No there is nothing wrong with this person besides laziness. They don't want to work so they choose to lie and get three meals and a cot.
A true mentally ill person does not want to be in the hospital, in their minds they are "normal" they don't know what "normal" is. A truly depressed/suicidal person rarely comes to the hospital either their mental pain is so bad they want to die to end it,so they do. If a person really wants to commit suicide they will find a way to do it and you standing there.
At our hospital actually in the state of AL we can only hold a suicidal person 72 hrs. After that even though we KNOW they are suicidal and IF they deny it we have to let them go.
A sociopath is a person that has no conscience,no feelings, and are great manipulators. Charles Manson is a good example of a sociopath IMH.

Intro to me via my fave cat (it took a bit to write so I'm out of synch with the thread - sorry) - Merlin - a rescue who had no claws - was large as a kitten, to the point where he was more than a handful and would just be hefted onto my shoulders because there was nowhere else to toss him.

I'd lounge back in my recliner and he's plunk in my lap and I'd skritch his head because that's what he kinda liked....

He grew huge I guess because he wanted to, not because he had to. He'd been brought into a house that was several stories tall and he had to share it with an crabby old persian that just refused to share. He was stuck with having to be large or hide - and he was big and black and not too easily hidden.

Somewhere along the way, he decided that me scritching his head needed retaliation or at least payback. In his later years, he would stretch across the recliner behind me and scritch "my" head. His arms were so heavy that it actually felt quite nice. Gotta figure a cat that can lay an arm across your head and pet you has to mean something special.

Merlin was a very nice quiet calm cat. One day, Jesse (my semi-son at the time) was tormenting the "poor cat". Merlin sat in the front window and "looked" after giving up on the crap. He then launched. This house had a field of play that encompassed two full rooms, basically the front to the back of the house in a house that was built in the 20's. It was a long launch. He hit the floor almost halfway down the room, tackled the kid (one paw over the neck, the other under the arm) knocked said kid to the floor, put teeth on the upside neck, continued, without stopping until he ended up at the back of the room.

Jesse got back up off the floor almost crying. Merlin turned around at the end of the run and looked at me (probably expecting some kind of serious scolding). I looked at Jess and just said, you really shouldn't have pushed him that far. Jesse held out his hand and apologized and they never had a problem after that. Merlin ruled.

One Halloween, I was left alone to dole out treats to the kiddies, something I've never been fond of. I'd carved a huge pumpkin with an evil facade, turned the stereo up playing Jean Michel Jarre with some extreme bass happening, and sat near the front door. It was a cold October evening/night. It was night and it was dark. I sat there with my bowl full of candies and waited for the kids to show up. At one point, a little girl came walking up the sidewalk to the house. Her dad stood on the sidewalk by the street. The little girl made it almost to the front porch steps, stopped, screamed and ran away. I was sitting inside the house. Even outside the house, I've never scared a little girl. I walked out of the door and discovered that Merlin was sitting on the filial post by the stairs - and there were at least a dozen cats laying in the front yard looking at him (as though he were saying "I suppose you've wondered why I've called you all here"). Later, when the guy whose daughter had freaked came down the other side of the street, I had them come over so she could meet the "huge black scary cat" and he gave her cuddles and purrs.

And that's a bit of Merlin's story and thus, a bit of mine....

I'm glad that you are enjoying Sinnamon. When you get a chance try the Sinapse and Sinthol I like them to.
Thanks so much for the help and advice.

I will try those flavors soon. Just ordered more of the butterscotch and strawnanna smoothie, 30ml each. A 5ml size of cherry on top and another 10ml size of Bahama Blizzard. This one is a curious blend of cranberries & coconut with light menthol, sort of tart, cooling and very refreshing... I like it. You might like this one too.

Just an added note on the spinner. It took a little over an hour to fully recharge. Mind you I used this 900 spinner exclusively since I got it yesterday set at 4.0v. It was still going strong but I wanted to "freshen" it back up. That was very fast, much faster than refreshing a 900 X2 or a 650 twist.
