You got that right EXCEPT when the mud is in the manes and tails. On all but three of my horses I keep a short mane and a stock tail. I have a Percheron/Morgan cross, the color of Sandy's Penny that I keep her mane and tail long and my two Percherons are the riding type perchies that resemble Fresians without the long feathers.
There is so much mud on mine right now I don't know who is who except for Turk who is 18h. UGH !!! I need my own personal drive thru car wash

What I use on manes and tails is the Oster brush -- Oster® Mane and Tail Brush | Dover Saddlery -- which works really well with Cowboy Magic or some other similar stuff like Show Sheen.

Here's another photo I hope will perk up the spirits of anyone who's having weather like we are -- rain blowing hard.

I LOVE the Oster brush not keen on the Oster kit itself,I have three of the brushes and I have several jelly scrubbers which I prefer over shedding blades.

I like using a shedding blade to get dried, encrusted mud out of long winter hair. A jelly scrubber just doesn't hack it on that kind of stuff. And I had one that had very soft bristles on one side, and I thought that'd be good to use on Penny's face, but she hated it, got really antsy if I tried to use it, so I use the old-fashioned grooming mitt -- the kind made of rubber with nubbins on it. She likes that well enough if I'm gentle. Why does she hate the jelly scrubby? I think it gives her tiny electric shocks, and she absolutely panics if she gets an electric shock, even from static electricity. She is very respectful of electric fences and even spooks at the cracking sound they make, even if the fence isn't touching her. For shedding, after the mud is out, I use a shedding blade, then a Unigroom, then a soft oval rubber curry comb (the bendable kind, not the stiff kind), then a body brush. I also use my hands a lot to feel her coat for little rain rot scabs or whatever.

Yes, but the resulting dust just won't brush out. You can brush and brush, and someone comes along and slaps your horse on the rump, and a noxious cloud of dust rises. Been there, done that. I think this is why people use vacuum cleaners on their horses, though I've never tried it.

I haven't either, and I'll let you in on another little secret,I won't be trying it.

We are going to have strong storms here on the East Coast tonight, so I am hoping the power stays on. I don't know what I would do if I had to go a whole night withourt Chit Chat in Voltville.

Had to add that it was up to 72 degrees today and this is January? It is supposed to go back to normal temperatures later this week.

The jelly scrubber COULD be shocking her face,I've never used one on my horses face just a small soft face brush that I order from Jeffers. Here our mud is mixed with a lot of sand so the jelly scrubber works best for me and for the feather on the Perchies and Rally. The jelly scrubber also flaps around some or it does on my hands so that could be the problem with her to possibly.
There is something else that I use for shedding called the Jeffers' groomer. Its a circular, black hard rubber shedder and it really gets that dead winter coat out its just heavy. Jeffers has got a new shedder out I see that I may have to try it looks light wt. and its called the Shed Flower.

Re. horse vacuum. Why not? I know my reasons. They're too expensive, and getting Penny used to it might be an exercise in futility. If I knew someone who had one, I might try it on her, but I wouldn't buy one. Are those your reasons, too.

Try the Unigroom -- see Google Image Result for http://www.luckypony.com/productcart/pc/catalog/unigroom3_re_d.jpg -- that's what I use. It's small and light, more flexible, fits nicely in the hand, and it's not expensive.

I'm fine JoAnn,thanks for asking. When the weather gets bad and its where I can,I go to my Mother's,for my peace of mind.
Did you ever find your vape package? I sure hope its found.

Nope... It's gone... poof!! I do have a claim number and will carry it as far as I can. After the snow melted, I did another walk around but nothing. I did get my SI package that included my spinner. Glad I got that one! I have another that is "overdo".. which contains my mini vivi novas and the new Kanger EVOD's. It didn't come today so I'm waiting until tomorrow's delivery. If it is not delivered, I'm filing another report. I'm beginning to think something's up with this mail person... like getting tired of carrying all these little packages etc. Of course, I don't want to start thinking that...!?

They are expensive, but my biggest reason is safety. Something about a big scary vaccum cleaner and anywhere to 1000 -2500 lbs horses in an isle or a 12x12 stall just seems like a suicide mission for me.
I think once you have been hurt like we have been by horses,we have a greater appreciation for Murphy's Law.

Gosh I hate that JoAnn. These storms could be causing a delay to. If it happens again, this soon I'd have to report her. If she is doing it intentionally to you I would think she is doing it to others. Besides what's the difference in delivering a package and a letter?
There was a mailman around here a few yrs ago that got into a LOT of trouble. People started complaining that they weren't getting their mail. Come to find out he wasn't delivering ANY mail it was in the loft of his house. He told the investigators that he just got tired of delivering it after 20+ yrs and just stopped

Sitting down, facing forward.
Today i caught one of my bosses horse rolling on the dirt on video. They were all muddy today.

Day update: I ate a can of red beans... lol
Day update 2: I installed a heart rate monitor on a horse connected to a wrist watch.

It would have been much funnier, and better, if your boss was rolling in the mud!

Thanks for that one! A couple of the other doctors on Fox aren't very "supportive" of vaping so I wonder if there'll be a fight. Now that would be good to watch!

Just basking in the afterglow of a nice meal, ranch chicken on the grill, mashed potatoes and broccoli then warm apple crumb pie with vanilla fudge ice cream. Now some dark roast Columbian coffee with Bailey's French Vanilla and a really nice vape on my new toy.
