Sitting down, facing forward.
Considering the length of the history of the planet versus how long things have been accurately recorded, it seems a little presumptuous to begin drawing conclusions about the reasons for any variations in climate activity. I remember extreme, more extreme than we've seen here, weather in my lifetime, snow in April, 70 degree temps in December, protracted below zero temperatures (weeks) and accompanying ice storms, the dust bowl conditions of the '30s. Somehow, I think the end of that ice age 4000 years ago wasn't caused by CO2 emissions from cars and power plants or even a meteor strike. There was a "mini ice age" in the late 1800's that is attributed to Krakatoa exploding, amount of dust in the atmosphere cutting sunlight/heat absorption.

What is interesting is that in the last ten years more CO2 has been emitted than was emitted in the previous 100 years, and yet the warming, planet wide, has slowed enough to be noticeable and is driving climate scientists crazy trying to figure out why, it doesn't fit the models. Maybe the models are wrong?

CO2 had nothing to do with temperature fluctuations of the earths atmosphere that is scientifically proven. CO2 just follows temperature changes with small delays.
And NO polar ice doesn't melt and even if it does it follows regular cycles. Damn eco hippies :D

It was only used by politicians (with wrong data) and other "persons" to direct markets and change/control things. That simple.

Haven't that about the global temp, but I do know that extreme weather conditions were more common over the last 12 months than any other period since they have been recording them (I'm not sure if it's global or just north america, still trying to find the article again).

I'll start this again. My first reply disappeared. I don't know how old you are Shay, but growing up in the 1950s the summers were HOT , and the winters were COLD with feet of snow in the Baltimore area. In 1954 we had hurricane Hazel, the worst storm in years which destroyed a lot of Ocean City real estate. I do not doubt that man has exacerbated the global warming, however the earth has gone thorough MUCH worse and we have survived.

I think the concern isn't so much survival as it is that we don't want conditions to change. As the world gets more technological, we expect things to be under control more, and when the weather doesn't suit us, we look for ways we can control it. It's comforting to people to think that if they just controlled auto emissions or whatever, they could keep control of the world and it's variable weather. We want something to blame for whatever discomforts we feel. If we can point a finger at a problem, the thinking goes, then we can solve it and make the problem go away. So I think it's comforting to people to think that climate change is man-made, because that means that it can be changed by humans. If people thought it was just nature doing its thing, then we'd feel less in control. How does that theory sound?

I haven't made up my mind on climate change.

Hubby is on his way home. He stopped by the Home Sleezi and bought me a new shovel handle and some screen repair items. Yeah!!! I hate when I have to stand in the aisles of the home improvement store trying to figure out what I need.

Alfalfa was $16.50 for one bale. He does have nice, heavy, good alfalfa bales but dang! I get sticker shock every time. When we first got the goats 5 or 6 years ago it was $8 a bale. At least I still have a good amount of grass hay left. We are going to have to buy more alfalfa this summer so we don't run out.

Three more buckets of rocks. Only like 30 or 50 more to go.

Do the goats need alfalfa? Could they eat grass hay? I was under the impression goats can eat almost anything, and they are very good at weed control. But I don't know much about goats, so maybe this is not accurate. I'd think Wiseguy would do better with grass hay. Sometimes horses have problems with alfalfa. I've never heard of a horse having problems with grass hay, though I guess anything's possible.

Re. the rocks: you'll get there, though it seems a long way to go now. One day it'll be finished, and you can stand back and admire all your hard work. If I've guessed right about your personality, I bet at that point, you'll have another project in the works.

What cracks me up is the climate models being accepted as fact when weather can't be predicted accurately for more than three days in advance, and that's being generous at three days of accuracy. Weather is variable and cyclic, we just haven't figured out all the variables and haven't got a clue about the cycles.

Good point about climate and people wanting control of nature.

I have just enough grass hay left for the horse so I don't want to "waste" it on the goats. Grass hay - timothy- is at least $20 a bale so it is cheaper to get the goats alfalfa. I am sure we didn't pay more than $12 a bale when we went to Fallon last summer but ....

Time to say good night. We have a little snow on the ground last I looked out. Spring isn't quite here yet. So here's a winter scene. Taughannock Creek gorge downstream from the big waterfall.

Well said Sandy, as always we fear what we don't understand so we pretend to understand by telling each other lies. You can never underestimate stupid people in large groups. Wanna buy some carbon offsets? I gotta in with Al.
