Good morning Volties and happy holiday!!
Starsong does catnip work with Maggy ... Glad to hear that that she's alright.

Thanks :) I haven't tried it with her in a long time, but she used to love it. The last toy I bought that had some in it didn't interest her at all, so either the catnip wasn't any good, or it doesn't work on her anymore. I've heard it doesn't always with older cats like it does with younger ones.

SandySu, thanks for the heads up to a big problem. I'm sure that we would have recieved a similar warning/explanation from SI. I'm pretty sure that everyone here will agree that the CS is first class. That being said, SI is expanding the Bricks and Mortar part with a new storefront in NJ. It might be a good idea to take advantage of the Labour Day sale and stock up..............WOW! Do I ever sound like a shill. Seriously though, the owner/operator did suggest that he may have been reported (Ratted on) by a competitor. Getting in a little backup might just keep you/me from reverting to analog.

One good thing to keep in mind is to have rice with your beans. The proteins in each make a complete protein, so they are more nutritious together.
Yep, any grain, really. Brown rice, bread, home-made flour tortillas... and you don't have to have them together in the same meal (though I usually do) - just in the same day. So if you were to eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, a bowl of beans for lunch, a handful of nuts for a snack, and say, tofu with brown rice for dinner, your protein for the day would pretty much be covered. Then you'd just have to add some other stuff (like fruit and veggies) for the other nutrients. ;)

Come on, gas is part of the magic of beans, especially good beans! It just wouldn't be beans if there's no "chuck wagon" scene like in Blazing Saddles! A guy thing, I know, shuffling off head bowed (but laughing).

Sorry you're under the weather but your comment made me think of something I learned a while back, maybe even here but since I'm old you just have to give me a pass if this post is redundant. I think we all have days when even our most favorite of juices tastes funny (not funny ha ha) but just funny, I was told or rather read when that happens get up and go brush your teeth and then rinse out your mouth and gargle with your favorite mouthwash followed by a good rinse with water. Then return to your vaping. I figured one day when nothing was working for me and I was at the end of my rope to give it a try and damn if it didn't work. Since then I do this several times a day mostly when I switch flavors it seems to really make a difference. Ok it just hit me, I read this on the DIY forum a few weeks ago.... Get well soon. :(

True, but there are still many amino acids that are obtained fro meats. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do eat little meat. Some is necessary, or at least some supplements are necessary to simulate "complete" proteins. Standard disclaimer - my opinion, worth what it costs, your results may vary, no guanatee implied :)

We burn out a rice cooker on about a two to three year cycle!

Although you can get complete proteins by mixing beans and rice or other combos, you cannot get B-12 [I think it is] on an all vegetarian diet and that should be supplemented. I am certain this information can be found on the internet. So, if you want to be vegetarian or almost vegetarian it would pay to make sure you know what combos give you complete proteins and the proper B vitamin to supplement. It isn't hard to learn about and would ensure your good nutrition.

If I remember correctly there is a lot more involved than B-12. some may also be available from dairy products, milk specifically, but, again based on faulty and spotty memory, some only seem to be available from red meats. I am not knocking vegetarianism or the "vegan" lifestyle in any way, I'm just relating what my crappy memory seems to have in it at the moment.

I went on a pretty strict program designed to control my glucose very carefully, get some serious poundage off and get back into some semblance of shape about ten years ago. I supplemented my protein with a "flavorless" whey protein supplement to get the protein percentage up to about 50-60% of my calorie intake, but did use some red meats, like maybe once a week, as well. Somewhere along the way during that time period I do remember reading about a list of aminos that are only available from meats. Again, I could easily be wrong about that or maybe the source wasn't as accurate as I thought it was. The nutrition program was designed specifically for weight loss, glucose control and some muscle building. I will say my doctor was amazed at how well it all worked out for me, anyway. That was my first serious attempt at stopping tobacco use as well, and all at the same time!

Seems Maggy and I are not out of the woods just yet :( Even though the vet pronounced her to be fine, she is having "bathroom" issues again today. Vet is closed, of course, until Tues so we have to wait it out. This is exactly what she did last Saturday, but the next few days seemed OK. Not sure what the heck is going on here.

I almost clicked on "like", but it isn't an appropriate button. I know Maggy is a cat, but Bo has had "stomach issues" as well, far too often. We seem to have gotten him settled down using "Wellness" dry food, and he loves canned food. Maybe just try a dry food, slowly introduce it over a week or even more, and see what happens. It's really tough when they can't tell you what's wrong, and of course, they'll eat anything we give them for the most part.

Thanks , it is so frustrating when they can 't tell you anything.
I did have her on dry food for most of the day, with breakfast being a 1/2 of a small can of wet, like a treat. But the vet told me yesterday to keep her on wet only because it is easier for her to digest.
Looked up online for treating this (trying my best to avoid using the real word), it said a bland diet of chicken & rice. So I cooked some up and she ate it, much to my surprise. Then I went out and bought Newman's Own Chicken & Rice and Friskies Lamb & Rice. We'll give those a shot and she how she does.
Hope there isn't some bad batch of catfood going around like there had been a few years back.
