Bo has had obedience and therapy dog training, but we still have "Beware of Dog" signs up on the gates to the back yard. He like people but I still keep him on a short leash when we're out walking around a lot of people. He is very defensive about his/our home and property and judging by how fast he goes through a nylabone if he ever really bit someone he could do some very serious damage. I'm cautious by nature with him just because I don't want to frighten anyone, most people are already wary of him just because of his size. We have a neighbor who got a German Sheperd pup and it's killed a few of his chickens and ducks and regularly gets out and wanders the neighborhood,a pretty rural area. Now he wants to adopt a Mastiff, he likes big dogs. I just wish he were a better owner. Any dog, if not properly trained and cared for, can be a problem, even "rug rats" let alone something the size of a Sheperd or Pit Bull. Some people shouldn't have pets at all but you can't cure stupid.

Off the soap box.

No we can't.

Om my goodness, Little Penny Poo Poo the Corgi seems to have had a seizure. Hubby told me he thought she had a seizure during the night a couple of weeks ago. I told him maybe she just had a dream. She is 6 years old and I am very concerned about this.

I heard an odd yelping and thought maybe she got her short little leg caught in something so I ran out to the dining room and she was laying on the floor on her side. One leg was up at an odd angle and she was snapping her teeth together and frothing. Later on I noticed froth in the kitchen so I think she starting having a seizure and then made it about 5 feet before collapsing on her side. I thought she could hear me so I told her "Your alright" while keeping my hand on her back where she couldn't reach to bite me. She started to come out of her fit after a minute or maybe less. Then she sort of walked in circles. Sort of heading for the doggie door. I picked her up and took her outside and after about 4 minutes she seemed pretty much back to normal. How scary!!!!

I'll have to make an appointment to take her to the vet. I can't think of any reason for her to start having seizures. We don't poison anything around here. She hasn't had her head kicked or bumped that I know of. We keep her up to date on shots and deworming [even though we do it ourselves] and shots were in June and deworming was Labor Day weekend. I guess worrying won't help but I sure am worried. Penny Poo Poo is my little ray of sunshine.

Oh no. I would worry, too. Yeah, take her to the vet to see what's up!

Evening,,,

Penny might have a seizure disorder like epilepsy :( Good that you'll take her to the vet!

bad dog owners piss me off,,,,,,and I see a TON of them. Most dogs get taken to the shelter because they are TRAINED improperly. People give up and say "the dog won't go outside" without getting any guidance, any help training them, without even reading a BOOK about how to properly train a dog! Most people would at least read a BOOK or see a doctor if they couldn't potty train their 2 year old,,,,,,,but a dog? Nope, dump 'em. Pisses me off. My dog may not be able to roll over and play dead, but she sits and stays just fine. She knows DOWN. That's the minimum, IMHO, for a small dog.

Went to Disney World,,,,,,gorgeous day! bright and sunny and a bit hot! Didn't go far because of my pain, but it was better today, so we went for a couple hours,,,,,,,had dinner,,,,,,,shopped on main st, etc.

Hope you all had a great Sunday!

Ginger was a golden retriever that adopted us quite awhile ago. She was a happy healthy dog, but suddenly developed seizures out of nowhere. We took her to a vet and found that she had epilepsy. There was really nothing to prevent her from continuing her happy healthy life - we just had to be aware of the problem to keep her from injuring herself during seizures. I always sat with her and talked with her even though I wasn't even sure she was aware that I was there. The only time that I had a problem was - being a retriever, she loved water. One time she had a seizure while swimming to retrieve a thrown stick, and had to be rescued.

My brother has a bull terrier that has seizures. Apparently it wasn't something causing it, just heredity or whatever. I think they got some sort of medicine to give the dog and the seizures have gone away. So taking the dog to the vet is the right thing to do. It might be easily controlled as is the case with my brother's dog.

Hang in there Lizzie just keep an eye on her until the vet appointment. I had a dog that had seizures and was on meds for it. Pretty scary the first few times you see it happen. I know people think I'm crazy but my dogs are like kids to me. They just can't speak English, don't have human thumbs, and think like toddlers their whole life.

Lizzie,is there any chance that a goat or your pony could have kicked Penny?
I'd get her to the vet ASAP. Please let us know what you find out. We're praying for you guys.

Yes, bad dog owners are the reason behind most every bad dog behavior. And it pisses me off, too.

I adopted my Sadie (half Chihauhau, half French Bulldog) back in 2006 from a local shelter. It was obvious to me from the get-go that she had been abused. She was so cowed down -- every time I reached down to pet her she'd fall to the floor shaking and whimpering. She and her sister were both owned by a couple young girls who were gone partying for days at a time. Anyway, I had Sadie housebroken within 3 days. It just takes kindness and patience. She was estimated to be around 3.5 yrs old, so she's 10 now.

8-12-12.jpg

We also have a kitten in our household now (my current avatar picture). She wandered into a hair salon where my niece works, covered with some kind of black, sticky filth. The hairdressers pampered her all that day, getting the gunk off her. She was obviously someone's pet, very friendly and tame, about 4 months old.

Sadie had never been around any indoor cats, so I was pretty leery. But she's smart! Only took me a few days to allow her to get used to the cat. Of course, training the kitten to stop pouncing on Sadie's head ... well, that's another story!

I can't speak for everyone, but I'd think you were crazy if you didn't feel that way and have animals.

Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry ... I know you must be sick with worry. I can tell from your posts, that little Penny Poo Poo is family to you. Hope the vet can figure out what's causing this and get Penny back to her usual self.

Yes, I ROTFLOL every time I picture a male Chihauhau going after a female French Bulldog. It was accidental -- again, the result of thoughtless dog owners letting their dogs roam the neighborhood. But I'm glad I found her -- she has been my constant companion for over 6 years now. She's more like my child than a dog and is my constant shadow, wherever I go. And did I say I love her? Well, I definitely love her. :D

Thanks, everyone. Raynes, I doubt that she has been kicked by the horse but it is always possible. She isn't really around the horse without me being there and the horse hasn't ever tried to kick her although I swear he looked through the fence once and thought "I'd bite her if I could." I don't speak horse fluently so I could be wrong. The horse and the dog seem to have agreed to ignore one another. Penny tried to jump up to give him what for when I first got him and I blocked her with my hand [good timing] and told her in no uncertain terms that she would not be bossing the horse around. She hasn't bothered trying to be the boss since then.

Since talking to Hubby on the phone, we think she may have had a seizure just before vacation. We chalked up her symptoms to probably choking on a piece chewie and took all the rawhide chewies away from the dogs so we wouldn't have anyone choking. So, that would now be a seizure about every two weeks.

I can't make an appointment for the vet until tomorrow when they open and I probably can't get her in until Tuesday or Wednesday. I know they won't think this is an emergency and I sure don't want to pay emergency prices for a non-emergency.

Fortunately, she does seem to be back to her old self already. She grabbed one of her toys and was shaking it and barking at it until she was sure the toy got the message. Just like normal. I'll keep a sharp eye on her until we can get her into the vet. Yeah, I am worried but talking to the vet is about the best I can do.

Rave,I'm happy to report that Kola had a good mane day today. She didn't poop in her bucket, and we ended today dancing the cha-cha. You accomplish this simple dance move by teaching a horse to go back and come forward with your body movements. She'll also follow me around the round pen. Has learned "whoa". We're a little slow with verbal commands "back" and "come up" but by the end of the week we should be able to start in hand work.
