I couldn't agree more,,,,,,,my daughter's BF works for Walmart, and he had to work SEVENTEEN HOURS yesterday,,,I mean MAYBE if it were voluntary,,,,,,OR they did shorty shifts, like "everyone works 3 hours so NOBODY has to work MORE" or something,,,,,

ugh, I worked at a convenience store once, and that's how they handled it,,,,,,,,it worked,,,,,,it's pretty easy to plan your day around a 3 hour shift,,,,,,,

even then I don't like it,,,,but at least they could make a claim to caring,,,,,

it's really ridiculous these days though,,,,,,,,some busness HAVE to stay open,,,,,,but WALMART??

I can answer this one,Walmart HAS to stay open b/c some of the consumers NEVER leave. Have you ever noticed that? Maybe its b/c our Walmart is in a small town but I go in maybe every two weeks and some of the folks I see there looks just the same as they did the 2wks prior. I'm convinced some people are addicted to Walmart.

Raynes, Your own coffee cup in the bosses office? Dreadful!!!

Yea I know, but the docs love to read my nursing assessments.I just can't please everyone. Maybe I should have been a reporter for the Enquirer. One time I got in trouble over toilet paper. That was NOT my fault I was just trying to do a good deed for a fellow employee. I haven't lived that one down yet. That time I had to go before the grievance committee.

Everybody shopping for presents!!..
I got about 90% of my Christmas shopping done a week before Thanksgiving.

I remember the last time (about 10 years ago) I went out on black friday. Almost got into three or four accidents, everybody in the store packed like rats, bumping sholders, cant move and of course the cart in ankle routine. My ankle is still not right. Had to drop everything

and get out now!!!!! :grr: :censored: I believe I would have to hurt someone!!!!! Yea I know Patience.
To this day I will not go out on Black Friday; unless job or tragedy.
The rest of the presents I will get later; Which is small things.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I can say that from a management point of view the Holidays are a nightmare. I used to own a security business, alarm and guards. The alarms always worked, for the most part anyway, but getting people to work on a holiday, any holiday, was a disaster waiting to happen. That's how some people ended up doing doubles two days in a row. No matter how we tried to break the shifts up there were always too many that wouldn't/couldn't work. Given that almost all of them really needed the money and didn't get paid if they didn't work it always amazed me. When I worked for otheers, if I had to go in on a Holiday that was part of the job, and if it was a long shift that was more money in my pocket. Times and attitudes do seem to change though, or else I was very lucky with who I worked for.

We gave up buying gifts a long time ago. Now we make what few gifts we give. I make calendars, from the photos I make & my wife quilts. If I had to do Wally world I would give up Christmas altogether, that just isn't what it's all about.:2c:

But then most people think I'm strange anyway, I don't own a TV either.:toast:

Hubby has had to work quite a few hoidays since he was on graveyard for years and they did plant start up and then he was on the Preventative Maintenance team and different shifts at the new job [which he has had for almost 3 years now]. I never really minded but his new shift of Mon-Fri real holidays off is nice. Hope he gets to keep it. He sure has earned it!!! He is a hard working guy and very smart too.

But at least they got them,,,,,,,,free shipping almost everywhere too,,,,,,I paid two bucks for the mp3 player, and that's the only shipping I've paid!

I do think that most businesses should close for the entire day on Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years Day.

Back in the day (telling my age?) ALL stores were closed on those holidays. They were also closed on Sundays. Also, there were no 24hr stores either. Not even pharmacies... OK that's enough nostalgia

That was in the day where you got toys on your birthday and Christmas only and you spent the rest of the yr choosing what you REALLY wanted Santa to bring you. It was also the day when Cracker Jacks had really cool stuff in them and you got little plastic cups in Quaker Oatmeal, and Jiff Peanut Butter came in a glass with handles which were perfect for ice tea.

Online shopping is the best for me especially around the holidays. No hassles, no looking for parking spots...

Also I LOVE gift cards, especially for my teen grandkids. I hate buying something for them that I think they would like and they would smile politely, kiss my cheek and say "thank you grandma" then laying it down and I NEVER see it again. Gift cards for them... yes in deed!

Since I've retired, I am trying to stay as stress-free as possible!

Lord girl!!! You are really taking me back! Do you remember the REAL Coca Cola in those little green glass bottles that were so strong that you couldn't drink the whole thing?
