Which companies? I think legal e-cig companies cannot use paypal for transactions except if you ordered from China etc.

Thanks all. I'm supposed to turn at 8:25pm but they've already started posting a bunch of awesome photos on the pre-vet thread in my theme. Unfortunatley I'm waiting on the sawbonz to call me back. Broke out in a severe case of hives yesterday lol. Benadryl is now my best friend but I hope my Dr has some magic and a new best friend for me. Here's the link to Pre-vet in case anybody wants to take a look. They'll be changing their avatars and posting all day. I wasn't going to mess with it but decided what the hay. Glad I did now. It's almost overwhelming and shows what the folks on ECF are made of.

I called them asap and the put a total Hold on my account , froze debit Card.
E-cig companies do take debit card which is what I used through paypal. No where near enough funds , so it's going against our bank account too. My wife is going to FREAK OUT.
I doubt if it's an ECF vendor but you never know. I don't have a paypal account so I don't know how they work. I sure hope you get it straightened out and don't lose any money. This has happened to enough people at this point to where I'm either going to get a pre-paid card or open a small checking account with a debit and low balance with no overdraft. Are you sure your computer is safe? I would like to think mine is but everytime I buy something I've got this little alarm in the back of my head.
My bank was hit too. 3 times in a 4 hour time frame. From Virginia. $2175.00 Just the other day. No paypal here. they hit my debit card directly. Money poof.......... gone and I didn't know until I went to use my card for a $5 transaction and it was denied. Needless to say...... car payment, Rent, light bill, and even SI has to wait til my money is recovered. According the bank will be 10-14 days. Still waiting.
Doubt very seriously it has anything to do with the forum or vendors. I used a visa gift card for all my purchases here and have never used my debit card online and it still happened. You will never know where or how. People can scan your cards directly from your pocket while you are at a grocery store and never seen the card.

This week my husband had an employee steal a deposit, and he (hubby) still had to do the work, because it was his company name. And if that wasn't enough, I had a little lotto ticket that was worth 16.00. The checkout girl actually stole the winnings and told husband ticket no good. He walked away dazed and was then too late to retrieve monies, so I know how you feel

That's awful! I have a PayPal account, too, and I always thought that was more secure than using a credit card. However, I think it's probably unrelated to e-cigs, since PayPal refuses to do business with e-cig companies. It seems this kind of fraud is on the upswing lately, though. I hope PayPal will look into the leak and patch the hole.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. Same kind thing happened to me last week (not as much lost as in your case), still trying to get it all settled. I think I'll be using a prepaid card from now on. More of a hassle to do it that way but I guess it's better in the long run.
I hope yours gets resolved quickly.
thanks guys for the support. How do prepaid cards work ? dont you have to give them some kind of info to either a bank acct or other card to get the funds onto the prepaid ? I will lower 1 card to only $100 limit and use it. might be done with paypal after this. I used the Debit Paypal Card , and the only thing I have used it for lately is online ecig. might have to go back to checks and just wait on the stuff. uuuuggggh!
For some time I have been considering doing away with my debit card and using only credit cards, checks or cash. Debit cards are tied directly to your bank account(s). Credit cards offer a little more security, as you have a better chance of contesting unauthorized charges. Cancelling my debit card would mean having to go into the bank to draw out cash, but it would be worth the extra steps.
Our card numbers can be gotten locally as well as online. And as Stacey said, people have devices that can scan them while they're in your pocket or purse. There are special sleeves you can use to prevent that though.
Another important thing is to run anti-virus programs on a regular basis, along with the resident program you have on your computer. There are keylogger trojans that can collect all kinds of information by doing just what the name inplies. They keep a log of your keystrokes and then it's retrieved from a distant computer.
If you have access to online banking it's a good practice to check your accounts often to catch anything that's not authorized by you.

Jay, my brother uses a prepaid Visa card that he got at Walmart. There's a $3 monthly fee and you can replenish it at their cash registers.
