Yes, starsong, you are correct. I have a ranch/farm full of animals who were abused, mistreated, or otherwise left to misery by humans. I have been doing this for years, and still don't understand the human lack of compassion.

Raynes' story was very emotional for me. Raynes deserves the Voltville Humanitarian of the Day award. Oh, there isn't one? Well there is one now.
Bluesman your the one that deserves an award. Most of mine were just young 3mo.foals except for Mae. I didn't mean to make you sad or anyone else. I was hoping their story would bring a smile to all my animal lover friends' faces.

No, Raynes, you didn't make sad. You did make me smile. Your story is a very happy story. I am always glad to meet someone who takes time to care for animals. Thanks for telling your story. I'll listen to more if you want to tell them.

Me neither, I just now looked it up. ugh. Humans are capable of so many atrocities. Makes me sad

I don't want to know. I can't watch the commercials about animal cruelty.

Boy you said it Lilac! Ughhh - between foster child histories & seeing some of the rescued horses here ... Nope - no way no how - can't stand it - those commercials - nope - no way - sorry should be banned. Makes on ashamed to be associated w/ the human race when you realize just how evil mankind can be ...

I get the drift ...

Closed down eh? I've wondered how to get the PETA people to go and start at the right end of the problem in factory animal husbandry.
The stuff these corporate ___ (fools?) send to slaughter - bcs they MIGHT MIGHT get (literally) $1 or $2 for the whole critter ... Things people of the previous generation (dad) would have put down long before (to end suffering & so the neighbors didn't see it).

Sooooooo .... did you all have a beautiful day? Did you get a chance to go out in it for a time? did you see a gorgeous sunset?
I couldn't believe how much beauty a haze of harvest dust added to the sunset tonight! It was gettin dark when we finished chores tonight. I just can't go out w/o stopping to say hello / g'dnight to a coupe horses ... A few where laying down resting / some eating ...
heavy dusk ... no wind ... no bugs .... as perfect a day here as ... well - I can't recall a more perfect day 'cept back 22 yrs ago out riding ... it was a dry year - rode along dried up creek beds! :)

So I saw my mouse-mate today (yeah, he's still here). So funny. We had a moment: simultaneously, I eeked, he squeaked, and we both went running in opposite directions! Then I threw a wet peppermint teabag at him!

But everything's Pine-Sol clean now, and there's no food anywhere. Maybe he'll get hungry and pick something up at McD's down the street...and some fries for me!

...I kid, but this is actually kinda freaking me out. Those movies (Ben, Willard) really ruined rodents for me.

Tame for sure, Rave...pink leather jackets with coffee and PV logos.

No, mine is an old Trim Fit that moves my legs and my arms. This is the third cycle I have had. I wore one out several years ago and Hub and I went the next day and bought the one I have now. I told him it would be cheaper than paying my psychiatric bills. Pedaling helps with tension/depression/anxiety that I have been gifted with.

That's why we ride, you will never see a motorcycle parked in front of a Psychiatrist's office! :D

He's not looking for food, she's looking for a warm place to have her babies. One word, S-N-A-K-E.

Cindy, as it is, I would be more than glad to loan you a few cats. They are very good mousers. However, after I checked, I learned I cannot use my frequent flyer miles for cats. Can you believe the nerve of these airlines today?

Good Morning Volties!

With the exception of a loudmouth squirrel outside my bedroom door this morning, the day could not have started better. It was one of those mornings where you wake up, stretch, and actually smile because there is a new day to experience. This is in stark contrast to all of those mornings when I'd wake up dreading what the day would bring. Nowadays, those mornings are few and far between. How did I get so lucky? Here's hoping that all of you stretched and smiled this morning too.

Now - where's that coffee and RY4 ................. ?

It did bring a smile to my face Raynes. It's a wonderful story. It also clued me in to PMU farms. That certainly wasn't uplifting, but it is something that we should know takes place. If people don't know that such horrifying things are happening, how can they ever be brought to an end? This is a good thing and thank you for that. Awareness is the first step.

Maybe I'm a little biased because Blues is such a good friend, but yeah, he does deserve an award - and more. I've never met a person more dedicated to abused, forgotten, and mistreated animals than he. Eventually, we may be able to prod him into telling us some stories about the residents of his ranch. I know that I enjoy them, and I'm sure you folks will too.

It's not luck, Raven. You deserve this. If you're having trouble locating your RY4, you're welcome to some of mine.

Mice won't harm you, so you don't have to be afraid of him, but I think you should get rid of him ASAP. Mice will eat through packages unless you have everything in metal tins. They will get into your cupbords, so you can't close them out. They will breed, as someone mentioned, and then you'll have more. It's wise to nip it in the bud before it's a bigger problem. If you have to resort to an old-fashioned mousetrap to do it, you'll just have to get used to disposing of the dead body and cleaning up the gore. It's not pleasant, but I learned to do it in my first apartment. I had to get rid of the mice, I wasn't allowed to have pets, and that was the only way I knew to do it, so I did. It's amazing the things you can learn to do when necessity calls.

Living out in the woods, we do get a lot of mice - mostly white-footed deer mice. Beats me how they get in. My late husband and I built this place, so I know the construction. I wouldn't think that there would be any way possible for critters to gain entrance, but they always do.

Mice will also chew up wiring for the insulation - especially if the wiring is fairly new. Some genius thought it would be a great idea to make wiring insulation (for vehicles also) out of soy products! Not bright. But, if you gotta trap the little guy, please don't use one of those sticky type traps where their feet get stuck and they die a cruel death.

Here's a neat idea that I use. If you can find an empty 5 gallon gallon bucket, lean a yardstick against it leading up to the rim. Put some bird seed in the bottom. The mouse will climb the yardstick, see/smell the seed, and hop in. He won't be able to jump out. You can take him outside to release him unharmed (just maybe a little embarrassed).

If Cindy's afraid of mice, she's unlikely to be able to handle one in a bucket. And you'd have to take him far away or else he'd just come back again. I'm an animal lover, as you all know, but I finally had to face it that the mice in my apartment needed to be killed. At least with the old-fashioned mousetrap, it's a quick death. The mouse's last thoughts were probably of eating the treat you baited the trap with. Not too bad a way to die, if you have to kill an animal.

That reminds me of the old saying "The early bird might get the worm but the second mouse get's the cheese". :D

One more then you have to tell me some of yours OK?
We have a Rott that weighs 110lbs that is afraid of two things -the dark and cats and we have a cat named Pompeii that is just an instigator. Whatever he can aggravate he does, and one of his favorite things is to jump down off a bookcase or whatever and ride on you. Well he has decided to take up doggie riding so when I get home every morning and let the Rotts out he jumps on Ugo's back and rides him to the back door.Ugo doesn't care.
Not here too long ago Pompeii decides that he's bored with that routine and wants to be a rodeo cat I guess and jumps on Angus who has the cat phobia. That dog went off like a rocket and I just knew he would tear the door off the hinges before I could get it open, went barreling down the driveway and was half way to the road before I could get him to come to me. He was shaking like a leaf,I get him calmed down and we go back in the house,we rounded the corner and there was Pompeii laying as calm as you please in the middle of the living room. I never saw a dog move as fast in reverse as they do forward but Angus did. I had to put him in a separate room WITH the door shut, then get Pompeii and put him in another room behind closed doors. It took me a good 30mins to coax Angus to where they stay.
This same dog is fearless when it comes to humans,he was altered when he was a yr old and he is so protective of me that my vet did the surgery and while Angus was still sedated we took him to my truck and I recovered him myself. I can't understand how a big Rott like that can be afraid of cats and the dark. Its embarrassing.
