Another break between outside and inside tasks.

Hey J.R. what brand was the one that went flooey? I bought one about three years ago (Harbor Freight special), during the summer ahead of storm season. It's only a 7Kw but it runs my whole house, well pump, AC, water heater, furnace, computers, lights and TV (for all the good a TV is when the cable is out). I'm going to start it up tomorrow just to be sure, but I start it monthly anyway, a habit from being in IT and managing disaster recovery). Ours is in the shed and I just "reverse" the wiring to the shed to supply the house, no cords needed other than the one between the generator and the subpanel in the shed. That worked out nice since the shed has 220/30amp service and a subpanel and it keeps the noise away from the house. Of course I have to "disconnect" from the power grid when using the generator. I did add a lot of venting to the shed though.

I can’t remember the brand. It was a cheap Chinese made unit that I got from Pep Boys about 10 years ago.

I take it you are turning off the main breaker in the house while the generator is running. That’s illegal here. If the power company finds out they will turn off your main power.

Also, you need to be careful. A 7kw generator can put out almost 60 amps. If the loads in the house aren’t somewhat balanced, you can end up with more than 30 amps on one of the legs. If that happens, the breaker in the house should trip, but if not, you could burn up the wire between the house and the shed if it’s #10 wire.

Well look on the bright side Officer since you have so much energy you can clean the kitchen, dust, do the floors, clean the inside of the windows and the bathrooms. Just THINK how happy your wife will be and for the final touch you can cook supper for her !! She'll be so impressed with you

Surely you jest my dear friend, I didn't have 5 Daughters and a wife so I would be relegated to domestic chores. On rainy days I have chrome to polish and Club gatherings to plan among other Manly duties. I'd sooner muck an elephants stall as I would go into the kitchen for anything more than to make a sandwich. I grew up on a big farm and have earned the right to do the outside chores or in today's case do nothing at all ( something I'm a professional at). I don't mean to sound like a man who thinks a woman's place is in the kitchen but I can't help the way I was raised, besides I would just open myself up for criticism on my lack of proper domestic skills. I'm also not allowed to operate a washing machine or dryer since I made the decision that dish liquid should work as well as the detergent we were out of that day, hey who knew? I know my place and have 6 women to make sure I don't forget it. Next question... :D

I love it!!!! LOL!

Didn't I tell you to go yo your room? Maybe you would prefer to be grounded Young Lady? I get the feeling you are a trouble maker with a potty mouth, which is a quality I admire in a woman, three of my favorite X wives had those same attributes. You do know I'm just having a little fun? right? Holly.... Holly... Ok you win, I'm almost sorry... :p

Dammit I give up, my like button is not working and it keeps making my connection time out. Maybe that's one of the things they are fixing in the morning. Awsum, better make the coffee early, we will be disconnected for two hours or more tomorrow and I need my coffee. Since I'm frustrated with this whole ECF lagging forum I'm going to go jump the wife and then go to sleep.... Nighty Nite Ya'll... I gotta go find my thong and my Cowboy hat...

Yeah, I'm cheating a bit with the disconnect trick. I don't want to dispute numbers with you, but 7kw@220volts is about 32 amps which translates to 64 amps at 110, 32 amps on each leg. The twist-lock connector on the generator also has a 30 amp breaker on it, so everything is limited to 30 amps, no matter what. There is a 30 amp breaker in the shed for the generator and in the house for the shed, double protection and an easy cutoff from either end. I haven'y looked at the load balance with an ammeter yet, I don't have an Amprobe meter, but most of the "big" stuff here is all 220, water heater, AC and well pump. If an imbalance occurs it shouldn't be too far out just looking at how the 110 breakers are installed in the main panel and knowing how the busses are split, they split the load to both legs pretty evenly based on circuit identifications (which are accurate).

I had to go search for WINTER CLOTHING. I don't OWN any,,,,,,,,and it's NOT easy to find here either,,,I think "layering" is going to be the only way to achieve it,,,,I bought long sleeve shirts, a couple fuzzy sweatshirts and a jacket,,,,,,,,

geesh.

Holly, just want to say have a good flight and have fun and we'll be saying prayers for you. Get on the internet and let us know how it's going if you can. :)

LOL, great flavors indeed!

I couldn't stand how perfumy my 13% blackberry juice was,,,,,,so I did a bunch of math I haven't done since college and cut it down using pg and vg and then added some cantaloupe and made almost 30 ml of blackaloupe. it's delicious now.

I will get online when I can, but please note my MIL does not have internet  as soon as we go to my sister's for dinner, I'll pop on :)

Okay, this is why I married a maintenance mechanic. Oh, and since I have gotten married I have "forgotten" how to do anything on the vehicles. Water pump? Where is that sweetums? Spark plugs, rotor? I barely know what those are, Honeybuns. Take out a radiator and take it down to get it rodded out? Your kidding me, right Studmuffins?

Oh my, I think that I don't even remember the difference between a screwdriver and a crescent wrench. Is this what you wanted? Looks over shoulder sweetly. This? This? Oh, you'll come look for it yourself but you think I'm really cute and adorable. And you are the best fixer upper of stuff I ever have known and so handsome, Mister Man.

My plan is working.
