Lizzie,,,,,,,my husband is a maintenance mechanic too!!!!!! He's an electrician by trade, and works as a MM in a roofing tile plant

My Hubby works for a large coffee roasting corporation and he works on a whole variety of machines. He does electrical but he sort of specializes in plumbing. He has to be good at a lot of different kinds of machines and equipment. I am very proud of him. And I am very happy he knows how to repair everything around here. I do still have to pump my own gas unless we go to town together.

Yeah, I'm cheating a bit with the disconnect trick. I don't want to dispute numbers with you, but 7kw@220volts is about 32 amps which translates to 64 amps at 110, 32 amps on each leg. The twist-lock connector on the generator also has a 30 amp breaker on it, so everything is limited to 30 amps, no matter what. There is a 30 amp breaker in the shed for the generator and in the house for the shed, double protection and an easy cutoff from either end. I haven'y looked at the load balance with an ammeter yet, I don't have an Amprobe meter, but most of the "big" stuff here is all 220, water heater, AC and well pump. If an imbalance occurs it shouldn't be too far out just looking at how the 110 breakers are installed in the main panel and knowing how the busses are split, they split the load to both legs pretty evenly based on circuit identifications (which are accurate).

We're on this same page. Our numbers are a little different because your saying 220/110V and I say 220/120V. I do mostly commercial and industrial electrical work. I think a lot of residential electricians still say 110V. It's a nominal voltage. The actual voltage is always a little higher or lower.

If your coming off of a 30A receptacle on the generator with it's own breaker, your good to go.

What a co-inky-dink...my Mr is a maintenance mechanic. He retired from Boeing after 27 years and now works for another company. Maintenance is pretty much all he has ever done. He has been sent all over the country to maintenance classes.

I bought lots of apples today...enough for snacking and I'm going to celebrate the season by making some apple butter...my kitchen will smell so good. :p

For anyone that didn't catch the announcement, so you won't be caught off-guard:

We will be upgrading the servers on 27 Oct 2012. This work is scheduled to start at 8 AM EST and is expected to take approximately two hours. During this time ECF will not be available. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience
If it's before noon on a Saturday, I'll be asleep anyway.

Sandy,I sure hope that you are mending well.
Holly, they sell gloves in Bama so you SHOULD be able to find some there I would think but then I try REALLY hard not to do that it takes too much effort.
Officer, THANKS for making me spew coke all over my computer.
Everyone in the path of Sandy my prayers are with you,and yours. I know I keep saying that but I don't know what else to say.
Rave,I may not get to be online in the morning since they are going to be working on ECF.So don't worry. I've been asked to speak at a riding club the next wk I'm off and I need to be working on that anyway. I keep putting it off b/c I'm not a public speaker. (I love the way Dr Click volunteers me for these things).
Everyone have a GREAT night,stay safe !!!!

Okay, this is why I married a maintenance mechanic. Oh, and since I have gotten married I have "forgotten" how to do anything on the vehicles. Water pump? Where is that sweetums? Spark plugs, rotor? I barely know what those are, Honeybuns. Take out a radiator and take it down to get it rodded out? Your kidding me, right Studmuffins?

Oh my, I think that I don't even remember the difference between a screwdriver and a crescent wrench. Is this what you wanted? Looks over shoulder sweetly. This? This? Oh, you'll come look for it yourself but you think I'm really cute and adorable. And you are the best fixer upper of stuff I ever have known and so handsome, Mister Man.

My plan is working.

Lizzie, I'm suprised at you, talk about chauvanism! ROFLMAO

Ah, and don't forget the other good line: "Ummm, is it supposed to be that, well, icky under there?" :said with a brave grimace:

Hey Rave, can we warm that coffee cake up a little? I'm starting to feel like Bo when he's gonna get a treat and need a napkin quick!

I went over to Tractor Supply to pick up a couple of spare chains and a gallon of bar oil for the chain saw. The place was way more mobbed than usual for a Saturday morning. The cashier that took my money was answering the phone - "Good morning, Tractor Supply of Southampton. We're out of generators but have lots of snowblowers. Thank you, goodbye." She must have had fifteen calls like that while I was standing in line and everyone ws laughing at it. I tried to tell a friend to get a generator last year with Irene coming but she didn't. She called me just before I went out to ask me if 2500 watts would run her refigerator and two freezers. I wished her a lot of luck finding one. Jeesh, why not wait until the power goes out, then try to get one?

Basically done with storm prep other than fill some extra buckets of water for the potty, tie down the grill and garbage/recycling cans and maybe trim some more limbs. I'm waiting until my wife gets home berfore I do the gutters, she gets nervous about me, alone, being on the roof. After climbing water towers and antenna towers, spending literally days on top, I'm a very cautious climber, even on a roof. I don't bounce like I used to and am in no rush to find out how hard the ground is!
