Sitting down, facing forward.
Hang in there Officer and Blues.

Well, Sandy has accelerated and not lost any power, still a strong Cat 1 and almost a Cat 2. The wind is really getting ferocious here but there's not a lot of rain, just steady and being pushed by the wind. My barometer is down at 28.25 and continues to drop. They expect landfall around 5:30 between Cape May and Atlantic City, so the rain will stay to the south, but the storm surges and high winds will hit us. The waves off shore are higher than have been seen previously so the surge plus the wave plus the lunar high tide will make a real mess down at the shore. People are still being evacuated because they decided they could ride it out. I guess they don't believe the old saying, you can't fool with Mother Nature.

I think we're starting to get some of Sandy. We went shopping down in Watkins Glen, and the waves in Seneca Lake were whitecapped. On the way home, it rained steadily with some gusts of wind. Now that has picked up in intensity. Oh, yes. As Pat and I got home, I asked her to stop at the end of the driveway so I could get the mail. That section of driveway is on a short hill, and she had trouble stopping the car. She coasted down to the flat parking area, and had to put the brake pedal all the way to the floor to stop the car. We sure were lucky the bakes failed just as we got home, not out on the road on one of those steep hills in such bad weather. Pat's car is gone, now. AAA took it to the Honda dealer in Ithaca. We still have my car to drive, and the only place to go tomorrow is to a physical therapy appointment for me, about a mile from my house. Who knows? They may close tomorrow, depending on the weather. Stay safe, everyone.

Just a quick message to wish everyone in Miss Sandy's path best wishes. Please stay safe, and don't take any unnecessary chances.

I have been so worried about my sister, but we got good news today. Took her for more imaging tests today, and her breast cancer scare is now officially over. She has "complicated cysts" and needs to go back to be re-checked in 6 months. It was so frightening, and thank God, it is over now.

I'm so happy with this outcome. :D

We are hanging on here but the wind is up to almost 80 sustained. Just glad we are on the west side of the mountain. So far no big trees have come down but a lot of little ones have. Rumor has it all the roads out are blocked and the power will be off for at least 3 days. "I don't think the heavy stuff will be coming down for a while"

Hey - Thanks for checkin' in Officer. I go into worry mode. Poor Blues is having more trouble with me than with Sandy. Do you still have power? BTW - I've got the Dali Lama on speed dial.

If Sandy doesn't blow the cell tower off the mountain I'll check in from time to time but this screen on the droid gives me a headache and the touch screen is a PITA. Oh to answer your question we have a 20 kw generac and enough propane to last a week so we have lights, heat, music but no internet except for the cell phone and it's snowing, sideways...

Kontantine, the 22 is the preferred "hit" gun. High velocity, low noise (easily suppressed), low recoil and good penetration and fragmentation. For it to "bounce" you better be wearing body armor or have skin like about 12 or 16 guage high tensil steel. My preference is a .357 or 9mm, but a .44 works really well too! Remember, Ronald Reagan was almost killed by a .22 and James Brady was terribly wounded by that same gun.

You got that right a .22 can really do some damage but I like the 44mag too and my AK-47 but they are just for target practice. I would never shoot any of the beautiful animals up here in the forest, they are my friends. well gotta run see whats crashing down the mountain this time, we have lost a lot of small pine trees tonight...

Another major update. Sandy is no longer a hurricane but has morphed into a super winter storm. It still hasn't made landfall due to the morphing process, but will be ashore in a little while. I thought the wind had more or less peaked, but its getting even windier. On the plus side the rain has almost stopped and will probably stay as drizzle through tomorrow. They are still expecting record storm surges along the NJ coast, lower Manhattan and Long Island including Long Island Sound that will be "historic". We still have power, to my surprise, but the lights have flickered more than once. My barometer is reading 28.04 right now and still dropping. On the plus side, it's not snowing here. Stay safe, Officer, and everyone in the path of this thing!

Barometer has now dropped to 27.99. This is the first time I've seen it below 28 at all. The storm surge in lower Manhattan is now at 13 feet, the Holland Tunnel is closed, because it's flooded. This is one for the record books to be sure.

Wow!!!! That is amazing.

Glad to see you are still here 1st Officer.

Thanks for the coffee Lizzie. I was hoping there would be some word from our friends. Hopefully all are safe and sound on the east coast. Sure wish Sandy would hurry up and move out of there and dissapate
