Fiber is good (you should be getting 25g MIN/day), but too much fructose is not. I have a crazy sweet tooth (especially for baked goods), and I know fruit would never cut it for me. But vaping baked goods seems to be working.

My trick to nutrition is to learn what the good [carbs/fats/proteins] and the bad [carbs/fats/proteins] are, and try to stay away from the bad. There's almost always a "good" substitution for the "bad" stuff you're craving. Like Uncle said, white rice is bad, but brown rice isn't (as bad). Regular pasta, especially when cooked wrong, is bad, but then there's Dreamfields. Sweet potatoes are better than regular potatoes. Vegetable oil is OK for salad dressing, but not for cooking. Whole grain flour is better than enriched flour. You can get crazy amounts of protein, fiber and potassium from beans, especially when combined with whole grain. Natural peanut butter (with just peanuts and maybe a little salt) is good, but Skippy/Jif is baaaad. And on and on...
Reading ingredient lists is good too. Stay away from "partially hydrogenated..." and "high fructose...," and the new substitutes they're coming up with (palm oil, Olestra...), and watch the sodium. For bread, if the first ingredient listed is "enriched flour," skip it.
And two spices I always try to put in: cinnamon (but some people need like 1+ tsp a day for it to work - that's a lot) and cayenne.
I've been doing this for so long that I don't have to worry about what I eat anymore (at least when I'm at home), and I'm at the healthiest I've been in a long, long time.

It's the same for me, Cindy. While I like fruit, I doesn't satisfy my sweet tooth. All sugar is NOT created equal. Baked goods are that heavenly combination of sugar and fat. 'Heavenly' because they taste so good and 'heavenly' because they will get you there much sooner if you over-indulge. :)

Oh, man I blew it. I bought a jar of cashews! I forgot, I have no will power when it comes to cashews! Should've bought Oreos.

With Oreos, I can just have one or two and be done with it, but dang, I keep putting that jar in the cupboard and coming back for more. Almost half gone already! :grr:

Um, Kico..."nookie?"
Is that your word for "binky"? Cuz to the rest of us, it seems to mean something else...

Cashews are my bestest favorite! Can't just have a BIG handful either.

I have been following Eat to Live by Dr Joel Fuhrman for the past 6 months. I've dropped 35 pounds and all of my blood work came back perfect 4 months into this eating style. Dr Fuhrman has a new book out: The end of Diabetes. You can find it on Amazon. I've not read it (thankfully I'm not diabetic) yet, but from what I understand, a lot of the lifestyle is very similar to Eat to Live.

Thanks for telling me about Dr. Fuhrman's books. I put those two on my wishlist so I can go back later to look them over. Right now I have two books I'm studying: Stop Prediabetes Now by Jack Challem and Ron Hunninghake, M.D. and Diabetes Without Drugs by Suzy Cohen, RPh. I don't have diabetes (yet) either, but following a diabetic diet is the way to also prevent it. In fact, it seems the food choices they recommend would be good for anyone to maintain good health.

And to think you almost threw it away! At least you know what to try now if a battery does not fire or appears to be dead.

Glad to hear that you like the T3s. :)

Sitting down, facing forward.
I've had to do that to get a couple batts to charge in the pcc. Does that happen from over tightening?

Have a great day Volties!

Yes, I think over tightening a delivery device, carto, nono, clearo or whatever, can force the posts on both in and result in problems when they're attached to a different device. I'm know as "Mr. Over-do" and have sheared off 1/2inch bolts making sure they are tight enough, but when it comes to batteries, delivery systems and chargers, I just tighten them until I feel a little resistance and only tighten further if they don't work. As a matter of fact I'm going to adjust the post on an SI T3 because it doesn't work on two out of three batteries reliably.

Yeah - they have a dark side. I've raised three from babies. The first two, Velcro & Clingon, were attacked and injured by crows. Velcro had a broken leg. In another year, I had to raise Sooty when he fell down our chimney. The dark side is that they are thieves! I'd let V & C run around my studio while I was painting, but they would steal things and hide them in their nest. If I was ever missing anything, the first place I'd look is in their nest. All three were returned to the wild gradually and hung around the house quite a bit. I was talking to a neighbor one time when Clingon climbed down from a tree and hopped onto my shoulder. I scarcely even noticed, but the neighbor just about fell over with surprise. Velcro used to come home every day and curl up on my lap for awhile to sunbathe, then scamper off again. The only time any of them bit me was the day I came home covered with tiger scent.
You could leave a few red firecrackers around (like the cartoons lol) with a strike match. When he pulls it out and takes it to the nest he will get a new haircut and never do it again :D :D

Fuhrman advocates a vegan lifestyle. It's rough, but worth it. I used to be a salt a holic and now I don't like it. It has helped me a lot to get my weight down and feeling much better! His recipes are actually really good. I haven't tried one that I would not eat :)

Here's a classic funny story about the hoarding ability of pet squirrels. Susan E. Garlinghouse, DVM horse management articles and lectures Click on the 8th one down, the famous squirrel beet pulp story.

Vegan could be a deal breaker for me. But I'll check the books out anyway to see if they have any other info that would be helpful. Though I don't eat a lot of it, I don't want to completely eliminate meat.....nor dairy. I'm making many small and a few large changes in my diet. I also know myself and if I try to go beyond my limits I will be doomed to failure.

Sandy Su,

Thank you for the squirrel story. It seems that truth is funnier than fiction sometimes. Animals and I do not get along very well, but two summers ago I spotted a little three legged squirrel hopping around like a rabbit (due to having only three legs of course). I called him scrabbit and would feed him peanuts. When I found out salt is bad for squirrels, I bought unsalted peanuts and he eventually would come up on my front porch and let me hand feed him. When I would come out of the house he always knew I had a pocket full of peanuts and would sit up and beg. He stayed around for about 8 months and after last winter I never saw him again. I suppose a cat, fox, or a car ended his life here on earth, but I did enjoy his company for a season.
I also have a bird feeder and keep it full all year round. I enjoy them being able to find sufficient food especially during the winter, soft hearted wabbit that I am.

Have a great day everyone especially you Bluesman if you are on line today.

I agree that going to extremes is harder, but if the recipes taste good, you might consider a few meals a week from the book and when the urge for a steak rears, just make steak for dinner that night. I eat meat, but I don't feel I need it every day. Then again, I'm not into limiting what I eat; I basically eat what I please, with a mind to what's healthy. I follow my urges, since sometimes I think my body is telling me I need something from a food I crave, even if it's junk food. There are times when I just have to have an orange, and other times I just have to eat potato chips.

I must confess that is me. I've cut down on the amount... but can't go without it totally. My tastebuds are for salty rather than sweets. I can do without cakes, cookies, candy but not salty foods. It's like my body craves it and I KNOW it's bad for me.
