Thanks for the compliment Raynes. Would you believe I got the decals from Walmart in the giftwrapping section? I chose decals for wrapping bridel shower presents... lots of sparkle! So far, I just did the chrome spinner which reflects camera flash too much for a better picture. I'll take a couple when and if I do the same to any with matte finish.

Wish I had that kind of talent. I'm too much of an impatient fumble finger but you and Flower Soul sure have talent.

Kon, some horses love to race, some are bred to race and hate it. Your right its cruel to push a horse,or force a horse to do an event that its heart isn't in it. All that trainer is doing is setting themselves up for defeat. Greed rules Kon,always has and its not just with the horse business its everywhere.
I hope you get to feeling better soon. Drink plenty of fluids and get that fever down.

I put 2 little flower stickers on one of my volts....we will see how long they last. I'm afraid they will end up coming off. I think the bling is pretty, too, but.....we'll see.

Tail....just some advice from someone who watches the Dog Whisperer faithfully everyday.....dogs live in the moment and can move on faster than humans. They only hang onto human emotions if we are feeling them....they pick up on what we are giving out. Stay calm and assertive (as Cesar would say) and live in the moment. Be the pack leader and don't be afraid to correct them - or whoever is acting up - to keep the peace. Someone will try to take over if you don't show the leadership. Don't "feel sorry" and feel you have to compensate for them missing dad. They'll be ok. It's humans that hold onto things.
Nice of you to take care of them for awhile. :)
I love dachshunds....I have a mini guy. He's adorable....but bossy if I let him get away with it. Smaller dogs tend to do that because they're little and cute and we let them get away with more than we would a bigger dog.

Whisper and I are avid Ceaser Milan watchers. I am trying to stay calm and act normally. They are complete brats and really don't listen well. The younger one acts defiant and pees in the house, even though she can use the dog door.

As far as I'm concerned, Whisper is the owner of the home as far as the dogs go, so she's going to be the boss. But, I'm the pack leader, so I override everything when necessary! :)

These are both mini's but fat minis. One is long haired and I have no idea how to brush her out, if that is necessary. Looks like I'm going to find a groomer if they are here very long.

I'm sure no one was wondering where I was for the past few days... But, I was busy in preparation of receivership of my friends 2 dachshunds. They are getting a divorce, so the kids are in the middle and I was volunteered to hold them for their mom who lives in Kentucky. So, I had to get the house and the yard ready for them. They are here now, and missing their dad. It breaks my heart, but at least the dogs are still together. Whisper doesn't know what to do with them!

Needless to say, I've been stressed out and have been wanting to have an analog. I've been madly vaping to try to keep that old stinky habit at bay. So far, I'm winning.

Awsum, happy belated.

JoAnn, I hope you are feeling better and I hope you saw the Evic picture I posted yesterday.

Oh I feel your pain !! JUST KEEP vaping !!!

I am certain that horses in general, just like dogs, enjoy having something to do that stretches their mind. The interaction between the peeps and the animals keeps both entertained and happier.

I agree, Lizzie. If a horse is well cared for and trained correctly, I think the horse enjoys working for people. Maybe they were bred to have this nature so that they would make good helpers to us. I hear zebras, which have always been wild, are nearly impossible to train.

As for dressage, done properly, it's supposed to develop a horse's physique so he stays sound longer. Horses naturally travel on their forehand, and when we add the weight of a rider, it can stress the front legs, so teaching a horse to shift more of his weight to the rear is actually good for him. Dressage was developed to make a good riding horse, and then a lot of embellishments got added to train a horse to higher levels, but basic dressage makes a horse that is better balanced and more nimble on his feet. The horses trained to such high levels are just really, really well balanced and very, very nimble.

Cesar would say.....Pack walk! Drains their energy and establishes the pack and establishes you as pack leader.
Mine are all getting fat, too....cuz it's winter and I hate cold and haven't been walking them (sorry, Cesar). But as soon as it starts warming up, we'll get back out there everyday and they'll trim down.
Good luck.....one day at a time.

Kon, dressage isn't a race -- it's not a competition of speed. But sometimes they do push a horse too much, no matter whether it's dressage or hunters or barrel racing or endurance. I think, though, that if you want to compete successfully at such a high level, you have to be very mindful of how you train the horse, and only the best trainers and riders will make it. The people who do it incorrectly will fail. Often, incorrect training means that the horse fails physically somehow, yet dressage horses compete to a fairly old age for such high-level competition. Maybe competition of any sort is more demanding than rail riding, and some people disapprove of how dressage horses are ridden for competition, but I really don't think it's as hard on a horse as many other places that horse could be, doing many other things that horses do for their people.

I love seeing dressage. That was a really beautiful horse... not sure of the color, grayish? It was gorgeous but it did seem to be foaming at the mouth... what would cause that? Stress or pain from the mouthpiece (not sure of the correct term for it)?

It's good night for me. Some grape hyacinths to help you enjoy the rest of the evening.

OK, one last message before I go. I think the horse is dark bay. A bay horse has a brown body (anywhere from pale brown, reddish brown, or almost black) and a black mane and tail. Usually he has black on his legs, even if he has white lower down.

Dressage horses are supposed to foam at the mouth. I know, it's odd, but the idea is that it makes more lubrication in the mouth, which makes the bit slide around in there without rubbing. The bit doesn't stay absolutely still in a horse's mouth. It moves around a little, depending on how you use the reins. That movement gives the horse signals as to what the rider wants. He also gets signals from the rider's legs and shifting of weight.

And drinking... At least I'm off all next week. Vacation blown to bits over this, but I can stay up late and tie one on tonight! ;)

We've already had two accidents. One on my fabric chair and another on the floor. I just pulled out an old crate I have. Guess I'm going to have to crate train this adult dog. Ya know, I'd never do this to my friends. I'd find a way for my animals to be with me.

OMG AJ!! That has GOT to be stressful! Whisper having to give up part of her turf to "strangers"... sharing your undivided attention! Two terrified dogs feeling abandoned in a strange place! You caught smackdab in the middle. You poor thing! Falling back to smoking won't help but maybe a very big stiff drink will. Hopefully that arrangement won't be long. Hang in there girl... stay strong.

Yeah, we are going to the dog park tomorrow to let off some steam. Then we'll go for a walk when we get home. Guess I'm going to get my big .... out too! :)

Poor Whisper won't be riding on the bike much, and won't be going to the park on the bike. I took her this morning and we rode. Here's a picture of her strapped up, and doggled up to go!

Thanks Lizzie. So far, yes. They have been staying the past week or so in Reno and came from there to here today. The dachshunds are huddled to each other and Whisper is all over me. There has been some teeth baring and some growling. Both dogs have been here before, but it's been about 3 years ago. I know the older one remembers me, but the younger one probably doesn't remember ever being here.

Hard part about it is that Whisper eats on demand, otherwise she'd eat the whole bowl dry in one meal. The dachshunds were used to nibbling all day. I figure it's going to take them a week or so to get into the routine. I am not pumping them full of treats so they should be hungry by breakfast or dinner tomorrow. It has disrupted Whisper and I a bit. But hopefully we'll all adjust and get a routine down soon.

This is the first time in 2 1/2 months that I've actually thought about running down to the store and buying a pack of smokes. I guess it's a good thing I'm all stocked up on juice. At least I got some vape mail today and will probably sit down tomorrow and make some more juices. I have to miss the Sacramento Vape meetup tomorrow, and that makes me sad. But, I'd rather supervise the kids and make sure everyone is playing nice. ;)

How long have you been volunteered to keep them? What will you do when you have to go to work?

I feel bad for the dogs. Their mother is probably going to ship them off to her mother in Florida because she says she can't find a place to rent to dogs. I told her she needs to figure it out and whether or not she really wants them. Pawning them off on friends, especially with behavior problems is not the answer.

I'm vaping away. Already vaped 3ml this afternoon with countless beers. :) I know an analog won't take it away, but I just miss my old go to stress reliever "friend" right now.

My friend said that she was going to come out on Memorial Day to pick them up. I told her no, 3 months is too long to be taking care of them. She said she was going to talk to her ex and see if they can come up with a plan. I volunteered to take them 1/2 way if needed.

Normally, I try to walk Spanky everyday, 3 of the 4 seasons, barring rainy days but now, it's more like 3-4 days a week. I hate winter... he loves it. Most winter days, he just goes out in the backyard.
