The new Mantis tiller and Rusty the Red Dog is helping in the garden. Unfortunately, the Mantis tiller is very hard to start when it is cold. Maybe I'll have to warm it up inside the house before taking it out in the morning!

Here is my sweet little guy. I took him out to the veggie garden and got him to go around a few times so Hubby could take some photos.

I'm going to be putting the round pen out behind the veggie garden.

WOW, Nice pictures Sandy, I keep forgetting how arid it is out west, it has been years since I traveled there, however the island of Aruba looks just like our west, lots of rocks, sand and cactus. Not much doing here in the east, somewhat mild weather, a little rain, cloudy and chilly, not real cold. I have been working at the homeless project this week, fired chicken tonight, roast turkey tomorrow and bar-b-que chicken Thursday. Someone else is cooking Friday as I am taking the wife out with 20 of our closest friends

Catch you all later, vape On :toast:

Great pictures Lizzie! I so love seeing Wiseguy, he is the cutest little thing. You really have a large spread of land and it looks so peaceful there. Thanks for sharing. :)

I hope JoAnne, Kico, Raynes and SandySu are all doing better today!

Kon and Awsum - Following all that battery talk with rapt attention but not much comprehension:)

Looks like a gorgeous day today. Hoping it won't be windy!

I'm doing so much better since I've been putting a pillow under my knees when in bed. It really made a difference. I haven't needed to take anymore meds and they are not as tender to the touch now... daily improvement! Thanks for asking. :)

May I make a suggestion about the longeing? Face Wiseguy, not the direction of travel. Hold the whip so it's facing his hindquarters. Make a triangle with your body at one point, the rope on his halter as the 2nd point, and the spot the whip points to his hindquarters as the third point. You stand in one spot, just turning around, while he goes around you. You keep this triangle, even to slow him down or speed him up. You just make the triangle lean a bit toward his nose to slow him down and a bit toward his hindquarters to speed him up. I hope you can picture this. I wish I could be there to physically help. Do you have someone who can be there? It's hard to learn horsemanship without someone on the spot to watch what you actually do and tell you the precise moment to give a cue. Timing is very important. A mere second can make a difference between being clear and confusing a horse.

Sounds like some good cooking, Wabbit.

Our area is extra super arid. We only average 6-8 inches of precipitation a year!

Yes, timing is everything in animal training. Nope, can't find a single person to help me out here. Very disappointing but...there is some chance that Margie can help me a bit later in the spring.

I think I was getting better organized a bit further along:) One thing is, I seem to get dizzy easily. Wiseguy is at least very sweet about the whole thing and he doesn't get frustrated.

I think that is a great description and I will definitely be working on my technique.

Here's a video of someone learning to longe. Maybe it'll help you. Teaching a Owner how to lunge their horse part 1 - YouTube This site -- Lungeing - The Basics -- has some good info and shows a picture of that triangle I tried to describe. I get dizzy easily, too, and a good way to prevent it is to never keep the horse going around too long in one direction. Change directions about every 3 circles. This keeps the horse interested instead of getting bored. And change gaits from walk to trot, trot to canter, canter to trot, trot to walk frequently, too, to keep the horse alert to you. Also halt the horse on the circle sometimes, which will give your head a chance to recover from the spinning.

Good luck with longeing! Oh yes. Don't do it for longer than 20 minutes. It's hard on a horse's legs to go in small circles, and doing it for too long, when he may tire, is an invitation to injury.

Good stuff!

Yeah, I've been keeping us going for very short sessions while I figure out what I am doing. We did a few circles to the right at a walk a couple of whoas. A little bit of trotting. Then to the left for a few circles and a couple of whoas. I need to make up my mind if he needs to whoa turning and looking right at me or just stopping within the line of travel.

I think it will be good for both of us in the long run but in the short run it is definitely a learning experience.

One nice thing is that Wiseguy and I are becoming a team lately and I think we are going to be able to build on that as I learn more. He seems more confidant and assured lately when we are out and about.

My advice is to get him to halt on the circle, not turning toward you, when you say "Whoa." Later, you can learn the signal to turn him while he's on the longe, but at first, keep it simple. Actually, when you change direction, you may want to halt him and go out to him, turn him in the other direction, step back, and then longe him facing the new direction. That seems complicated, but it's probably easier than learning all the signals for turning him on the line. Did you see in the video how that was a problem for the person longeing? I think if you start out as simple as possible, get good at the basics, then you can add fancier stuff later.

Per Lizzie quote: Yes, timing is everything in animal training. Nope, can't find a single person to help me out here. Very disappointing but...there is some chance that Margie can help me a bit later in the spring.

Does this go for husbands too?

Why do retirees count pennies? -----They are the only ones who have the time.

Not really, I am really too busy especiallly in the spring, summer and fall. Just had time this AM to work on new e-juice recepies.

If you all are enjoying Cinnamon Danish, try adding 2% Sweet Cream and some fruit flavors. I added 2% sweet cream, 1% coconut and 1% French Vanilla and it is quite good. It mellows out some of the cinnamon, but adds sweetness and a little coconut favor.

I also mixed up 30ML of my standard Dbl RY4 but added 2% Dark Tobacco Base, 2 drops of Peach and 2 Drops Orange and WOW I have a Tooty Fruity RY4. It is very very good just after mixing and a quick zap (7 seconds) in the micorwave. I can't wait to try it after a couple of weeks steeping.

I am not cooking all of that turkey and chicken myself, I have a friend who is a very good cook who is helping me prepare the raw meat and mixing up the flavorings. Once that is all done, I can put it in the ovens and watch it cook. Normally I prepare frozen restaurant items like Lasagna and precooked hams. All of our veggies are either frozen or canned so there is not much to those. Mashed Potatos are from a mix, and French Fries are also frozen. Mainly I am a "short order cook", rarely from scratch.

PS: I made the mistake of going to the church last night without checking my battery levels and 1/2 way there, no vapor, battery died. It was a shock at first, but I was not going back home to get another battery, I just sucked it up and did without vaping for 5 hours. Not really that bad, but when I got back home I did suck down some juice.

I bet her husband would be willing to help, but with horse training, it takes someone who knows horses well, and maybe he doesn't. I wonder that there are no horse trainers in the area that would come teach Lizzie, but I guess there are areas where they aren't available.

Hubby is hopeless when it comes to animal training. He won't do what I ask and he always wants to skip appropriate steps.

I have tried several times to get some help but so far, no go. Since I live in the middle of nowhere it is hard to get someone to come out to my house, for one thing. Terry, my neighbor, hurt her foot and has otherwise been sick and Barb lost her horse and was really b - in' about me getting horse because it would end horribly. Linda seems to have backed off from friendship. Sometimes you gotta be patient. There is a lady that we all know that stirs up trouble. I wonder if she and Linda are back to being friends and now I am being shunned:) That is just goofy but it seems to be the way a few of them work. That same lady will be on the outs with people again when she goes back to her weird moods. She's likes you, she doesn't like you, on again, off again. I haven't taken sides since I don't want to be involved indrama!

Fortunately there are lots of nice people out here. A lot of the miniature horse people are like 80 plus years old and they are just not up to doing too much. The rest of them all live over an hour away.

The good news is that Wiseguy is very forgiving and there are some good videos and TV shows to help keep me going in the right direction. I absolutely realize that I have to learn how the horse thinks and what it takes to train the horse but at least I picked a good horse for me.

I had to smile when you said you had to learn how a horse thinks. That's ongoing, and it's always guesswork, since they can't talk and tell us. I think it's about like figuring out why your infant is crying. Is it a dirty diaper? Gas? You know, you go through the checklist, and sometimes you figure out that a certain kind of cry means a certain thing.

As with your friends, people are hard enough to figure out -- and they can talk! But at least a horse's motives are simpler. Survival is their basic motivation -- to get away from scary things and to eat and to have company for protection.

Here's a neat video, if you've never seen it. I bet even nonhorsey people might like it. Cloud - Wild Stallion of the Rockies - YouTube
