Sandy - It is definitely still winter where you are at but it was above 60 degrees here. We'll probably get a super cold snap as soon as the fruit trees bloom That's how it works around here.

Yes, it's winter here, though by the end of the month, we might see some springlike days. But often our biggest snowstorm is in March. I call it the "last hurrah snowstorm." We can get snow in April, still, but just a dusting. Someone said they saw it snow in June here, but that was before I lived here.

Here's a sight that's not terribly rare here in spring.

It's a hibiscus. See Hibiscus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for lots of info. The flower is edible, and tea is made from it.

I was looking for an apt Deb descriptor and I found the following:

Demagogue
Synonyms (abbreviated): agitator, firebrand, fomenter, haranger, hothead, incendiary, inciter, inflamer, instigator, rabble-rouser, radical, rebel, revolutionary, troublemaker

If you add in Deb, you might end up with abracadebramagogue (for some reasons, the spell check is having a hard time with that one). I like it cuz it rolls off the tongue so well once you figure out how to pronounce it

That would make Deb the "instigator". Of course I'm just sitting back and reading all of this but once in a while I just have to add a tad....

Round Pen ... Guess I was thinking you wouldn't need much more than a 30 footer for the lil munchkin ... Good point about making it big enough for a bigger horse ... Some way to make a little smaller (if that works better) and still be able to open for a bigger horse should the need arise?

They are fairly large, a bit smaller than a saucer. About the size of a large rose.

I think she'll be fine in the larger area without having to make it smaller. She can always use the longe line until he listens out at the edge of the pen. That will dictate the size of the circle.

BTW, Lizzie, what kind of footing will it have? You want it soft enough so he can safely run in it, i.e., his hooves leave well-defined prints. I have a rule of thumb that if the ground is so hard their hooves don't sink in and leave prints, then it's too hard to do more than a walk on.

Oh, OK. I'm not familiar with that. I thought you meant an ice cream bar of some sort, but it's not frozen. Interesting. I should probably try to make it from one of the recipes I found online and see how it tastes. I guess it's uncommon in the US. Anyone else ever heard of it? Here's one of the recipes with a picture.
