Yes, those inflatable vests are expensive, and there's the ongoing cost of the CO2 cartridges. I've heard that when people first get the vest, they forget to detatch it when they go to dismount, making the vest inflate when they didn't need it. I think the cartridges cost about $10 a piece, so that can get to be an expensive mistake. There are padded vests you can get for riding. They are cheaper, but I hear they're bulky and hot. However, I know one person who rides in one. She had a bad fall and thought maybe she broke her back. Turns out she didn't, but I guess it scared her enough that she bought a riding vest. Still, everyone else I know rides without a vest, though nearly everyone wears a helmet now.
Heh! Yeah it might save you but this is a problem in the summer.
Well i didn't have a scratch after the fall, i grabbed the neck of the horse and if he didn't lowered his head down i would still be on the horse. Instead i gently tumbled over and sat on the soft ground. Only my glasses fell (which are plastic polycarbonate for this reason).
I laughed so hard it was funny.
That was a long ride for a beginner, around 25-30km through mountains, tarmac roads, etc but since i can hold on they will switch me to the arabian horse maybe.

The nice thing is that i ride and i forget about everything else.

You know Kon, that is the nice thing about my little horse. I am only in the moment and do not think of everything else:)

Wiseguy and I went out for a cart ride today. He was a good boy. The sun was shining and the neighbor's always smile when they see the two of us on the road. I enjoy my time out with the horse.

All in all, it was an extremely satisfying day.

I have spent several hours looking over as many MODs as possible in order to see what toy I want to buy next. I can't find anything that matches the look, feel or advantages of the Vamo except the E Vic. I wish they would come out with a Vamo that was rebuildable and incorporated some of the features that people have suggested like a breathing hole in the top of the tank. The Evic looks great, but I wish it had a flat top, not tapered. I would consider a provari if they came in polished stainless with a flat top, that would be awsome (I hate that word).

Haven't heard from Debra in awhile, nor any news from Raines or Bluesman. I hope they are doing well.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Wabbit, no snow...yet..but the ground and the roads are too warm for it to be any problem, unless it snows really hard for a while. Even then it'll melt pretty quickly.

I saw a piece on the Today Show the other day about some jeans from Urban Outfitters. These are really tight fitting, as in tighter looking than lycra or spandex, and for men and women. Turns out it was a "come on" and the models were actually wearing painted on jeans and they followed every contour of the bodies involved. Now don't blame me, this was the Today Show on lamestream media and I'm only relating what was demonstrated. Not very protective for riding though.

btw those lady breeches make a perfect .... on women LOL. Why do they always take that pose on pics??? Ladies Bi Band Gorringe Jodhpurs - Horse & Rider it looks like a target.. :D

They look like a variant of full-seat breeches. I've never worn full-seat breeches, first because they're more expensive, and second because I like to be able to slide around a bit in the saddle to adjust my position, but the idea is that the suede (or fake suede) keeps your .... stuck to the saddle better. Personally, I can't see how they could make enough difference to matter, and if a rider is sliding around enough to matter, it means she needs to improve her horsemanship. Staying at the center of gravity of the horse should be a matter of balance and correct body position, not of grip on the seat of the pants.

None, i'm trying to find english words used for all of this stuff.

Well, you got the word "breeches" right. Here's what I wear for winter riding: Irideon Ladies Wind Pro Riding Breeches and Winter Knee Patch Riding Breeches | EQUESTRIAN COLLECTIONS.COM Irideon is a very good brand. Yes, there are cheaper ones out there, but I like to get ones that may cost more but will fit well. And they last a long time, so I don't buy a new pair every year.

For footwear in summer, I have Ariat riding sneakers: http://www.ariat.com/English/Women/Footwear/EnduranceBoots/Terrain.html?color=TAUPE I find them very comfortable to walk in. I decided once when I was miles from the barn and Penny lost a shoe so I led her home rather than ride and maybe destroy the hoof worse, that from then on, I would get shoes that were comfortable to walk in. I've had these riding sneakers for many, many years, and though they look a bit battered now, they are still going strong. I have weird, hard-to-fit feet, so regular riding boots are torture for me to walk in.

Because the riding sneakers don't protect my leg from the stirrup leathers pinching, I wear half chaps like these: Barnstable Suede Leather Velcro Half Chaps BK XS Tall on eBay! Though this is a different brand, here's a picture of a rider wearing half chaps, so you can see what they look like on a person: Dublin Easy Care Half Chaps - Half Chaps & Chaps from SmartPak Equine

In winter, I have Brit Rider boots, which are no longer made by The Muck Boot Company, so next time I need riding boots, I'll probably get these, which are similar. http://www.amazon.com/Muck-Boot-Company-All-Conditions-Riding/dp/B002HODN2E I won't need boots for a while, because when they stopped making the Brit Riders, they were on sale, so I bought a few pairs. I hate it how when you like something, they then stop making it and you can't buy exactly that product anymore, so I beat the system this one time. I still have a pair that are still in the box.

Here's the kind of riding helmet I wear: Tipperary Sportage Helmet, low profile horse riding helmet Another option I've found comfortable is IRH® Equi-Lite™ Dial Fit System™ Schooling Helmet | Dover Saddlery This has a dial in the back so you can adjust the size a bit, which is nice. I have one of these and use it for guests who don't bring a helmet when they visit. The dial lets it fit more people.

If you want to know more English words, like for the tack or the parts of the horse, let me know. I'm more than willing to help.

However, they do have jeans that are built like riding tights, so they are stretchy and skintight. See TuffRider Ladies Stonewashed Riding Jeans I'd rather just have plain old riding tights. The idea behind them being skintight is so no wrinkles form between your leg and the saddle. That can get uncomfortable if you ride for very long with bunched-up jeans making a wrinkle where your leg rests against the saddle.

Once again, it's time to say good night with some flowers. I liked the stripes on some of these.

Let me know how you like the monopod, Tail. I keep thinking about one of them as well, just to make the camera "rock solid".

The monopod worked out excellent last night. I picked it up at amazon: Amazon.com: Opteka MP100 67" Professional Heavy Duty Photo / Video Monopod: Camera & Photo

All this talk of RY4 has me missing it! It was one of the flavors that helped me stick to the ecigs. Then my taste buds went crazy and I couldn't stand it or menthol anymore. I pulled out one of the two pre-filled cartos I have left.....nope, still tastes like celery to me! :(

Funny, if I have the voltage cranked way up, I get the celery taste. I thought I was crazy, it's nice to see someone else taste it too!

Tail, could be a kidney infection too. You've been drinking enough water, right? Sometimes PG does that to people. Happened to someone early on in this thread. Feel better!

I've had kidney stones. This pain was much different and hit me squarely in the center of my back. I've been drinking plenty of water.

That very well could be the case if the pain is centered in her back. I hate the thought of her suffering like that!

Thanks JoAnn! I'm going to the chiropractor tomorrow and will go to my doctor this week.

Like in between your shoulder blades? I saw "back pain and vomiting" and went straight to lower back pain and nausea, and Mom yelling at me inside my head ("hey, kidney infection!":rules:).
Dude, what's up with you and stones? Might be a gallstone now...
I didn't think vegans could get those...
