I'm big fan of Lenovo, Dell (only specific models and never default config's), Fujitsu (but who can ever afford a Fujitsu) and Acer (best bang for the buck quite often).

Luckily I have a work supplied laptop, otherwise I would still be using a really old $250 Black Friday Gateway laptop (1gb max ram/2x512...really?!?)

Sitting down, facing forward.
I just bought two Asus laptops, i5, 4gb RAM, and they seem really nice. Only time will tell. My only complaint is the touch pad is too sensitive and no way to desensitize it. I had an eMachines and a Compaq, both AMD simpering processors for budget reasons, but this time I went Intel and am happy I did. You're right Konstantine, since HP bought Compaq they went down the drain really fast. With tablets coming along, I think laptops and desktops will eventually be dinosaurs except in high horsepower applications like CAD and other graphics.

repairing Acer's or Fujitsu's? Or both?
Every brand you can imagine.

I hate tablets, nothing like the good old beast desktop but even so i never let laptops go. Tablets are usually low computing power devices.

Hey Geeks, back to computer stuff - love it - I have had Dell desktops for over 15 years. Normally I upgrade every 5 years or so and while I own them I find they are highly upgradable. My current machines run old Pentium Intel Core 2 6400s @ 2.13 MHz, but perform well for me. I have added an extra 500 Gig Western Digital Drive to each machine and set it up with Intel Rapid Storage software controlling an Intel Sata Raid Controller in Raid 1 configuration. I also image each of the main drives every 6 months and store the image in my bank lock box. I find the Dell medium priced boxes to be pretty well made and I have had few problems. Only one fan and one power supply have ever been replace in all those years. I clean mine every 6 months also. My Dell Laptop also has not given me any problems and it is 3 years old, but I don't like the keyboard at all. I also have an Asus Netbook for travel which has performed flawlessly for two years. When I was in IT we used IBM/Lenovo exclusively and had very few problems.

I don't allow pre built desktops into my house, it's a borderline religious thing for me ;)

My current laptop is a Dell, mostly because it was paid for by my current employer and Dell has good warranties if you are willing to pay for them (or if someone else is willing to pay for them).

Tablets are media consumption devices, not computing devices. They are great for playing games and watching/listening entertainment. I was forced by circumstance to have to edit some spreadsheets on my Nexus 7 and if I am ever in that position again I will use grid paper and a pencil instead.

I've heard good things about Asus' laptops but I don't have any first, or even secondhand experience to form an opinion.

Then afterwards, she rides her motorcycle, with the dog in her lap, vaping along without her glasses.

Another adventure in the continuing saga of our little vaping diary.

For the record: Whisper has her own box that is secure on the backseat and is strapped in with two straps to her harness. I would never let her sit on my lap or on the gas tank like some riders I've seen.

I only need reading glasses - I'm fine otherwise.

No saga here, just joining the conversation. I'll leave now.

When I went out to do a few things today, on my car radio was this wonderful music, and it inspired me to share it with you. St Matthew Passion, Final Chorus, J.S. Bach - YouTube

And here's some Easter-looking flowers to go along with it.

I build my own desktops, too, if you can call getting a motherboard, memory, video card, power supply and case then just installing/plugging in actually building one. I find I can afford the latest and greatest that way when I do finally decide to upgrade. Right now my desktop is actually behind my laptop, except for the video card and monitor. Less memory and a lower processor, but it still is a really fast machine, at least to me. My desktops run 24/7/365, I'm a Seti devotee, so they do get some heavy use. I'm on the third power supply since I built this one, now an 800 watt gaming supply. It's held up fine for about two years now, but I'm always leery of switching supplies, no real isolation.

My main desktop is in desperate need of upgrading, unfortunately I've recently found a new hobby/obsession that has eaten up all the money I had saved up...

I know that feeling, all too well! I could have built a multi-processor machine for what I've spent on vaping, so far. Then again, I still would have bought cigarettes, but, according to my sig line versus vaping spreadsheet, I'd still be able to spring for a mobo, memeory and processor if I was still smoking!!

Most farriers have a heap of old horse shoes they have pulled off horses' feet when they put new shoes on. What to do with all this scrap metal? Here's a site with some very neat ideas. I thought the gate was neat, and I knew about the wine rack already and thought that was a great idea. http://pinterest.com/blueyedjac/horseshoe-crafts/
