her owner had a new interstate job and wasn't allowed pets..the pound couldn't take her....theres a 2mth waiting list before they even will take cats in....unless they are feral or dumped at the pound...plus there was every chance the pound would have put her down...due to alices state of health...very thin, sick looking, no vaccination history.....

It sounds like she lucked out with you taking her. And it sounds like Alice's former owner wasn't a very good pet owner. What makes people neglect their animals like that? I can sort of understand not getting vaccinations, but not feeding your animal?

After my suggestions of spring last night, what should happen, but it snowed! I didn't realize it till just before I went to do my exercises, when the cat asked to go out. I opened the door, and there was snow covering our porch. The cat recoiled in shock and horror, opting to stay indoors. So I swept off the porch, and later, Tom deigned to go out for a short while. This morning, there's still a frosting of snow on the grass, but the sun will melt it away pretty quickly, I think. In fact, the sun's out now, and I can see the snow disappearing from the grass outside my window as I type this. A moment ago, everything was white (with grass showing through), and now it's green, with still a faint silvery cast in the shadows under trees.

35 chilly degrees out but the day will porobably be in the sixties.

Have some Komodo Dragon coffee, Volties.

I haven't heard back with the photos of my horse propect but her friend said she is a slow. That is actually okay with me since I wan't really in a huge hurry to buy a horse. In a couple of months I'll have more money saved up for the purchase. I got the email address for the trainer and will be emailing him to ask a few questions.

We got the 50 gal pond in my rocky stream bed front area yesterday. My goal is to finish putting landscape cloth down, get Hubby to carry the big rocks up front and place them on the cloth to hold it down and get the water and the water pump into the pond today. Of course the pond will need artistically place rocks in it. I have to dig up one goldenrod and toss it so that I can replace it with my nice spirea that I had to dig up to put the pond in. Oh, and I'll have to get the drip system re set for all the plants. I'll be putting a 2 gal per hour dripper on the pond so that it will get a water boost every time I water the front zone. The only ting about that is when I fertilize, I have to make sure I remove the dripper from the pond. You only fertilize maybe once a month so should be doable.

Hubby got the broken fence post replaced yesterday. I got some hardy geraniums dug up for transplanting.

I got some of the raspberries transplanted. We have been trying to grow them up towards the front of the property for 5 or 6 years and they just are not happy. I am moving them to the back windbreak where they will at least get a little shade and probably less wind. Raspberries will grow here as we had them in Fernley. Delicious.

Partial Quote from SandySu: "Rabbit, I'm the same way. When I visit my brother and his 2 get with their 2 cousins, they are all excited, very lively, and it starts to wear on me, as much as I love kids. They run in a circle from the kitchen, to the dining room, to the living room, to the hall, and then to the kitchen, round and round, and I think I get sort of dizzy and deaf from their excited screaming. They are having fun, but it's so hectic! So my sympathies are with you, and I can just picture what entertaing 5 must be like! " end quote:

I didn't have to write anything, Sandy described it all for me! Breakfast is a Zoo this AM, no way we could get everyone fed and to church, but we are taking them to the real ZOO. Then after lunch we say our goodbyes and the house returns to normal except for cleaning all over again. No snow here, but it is chilly for April, especially since it was almost 80 degrees last week. Happy Sunday everyone, catch you all later tonight.

Debra, our animals always find us for a reason. I'm glad you found such a wonderful companion!

I have to work a little bit today. We are sponsoring a booth at the local Earth Day festival. I've been busy learning what sort of products are made from recycled water/soda bottles. I ran across a site that showed a bridge in Scotland was made out of plastic water bottles (not completely, but they used quite a bit!)

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! It's going to be up in the high 80's here so I'm taking a large jug of water with me to share with my coworker. I wish I could take Whisper along.

I rode today! This is the first time since the accident. I was sort of nervous about it, but everything went smoothly. Penny was antsy in the cross ties while I was getting her ready. Was it because I was nervous, or just because she was taken away from her herd mates? After the ride, she was very mellow. Was it the exercise, as mild as it was, that calmed her, or because I was no longer nervous? The barn owner and one of her daughters rode with me, and we stayed in the ring, but I walked, trotted, and cantered. Penny behaved herself impeccably, as if the last time I rode her was just yesterday. I'm lucky to have a horse like that. I saddled and bridled her all by myself, which I wasn't sure I could do, especially getting the girth tight enough, but it all went well. I did find that switching my dressage whip from one side to the other was difficult but not impossible, since I had to raise my arm enough so the whip cleared Penny's withers. And when I dismounted, I didn't realize that keeping my right hand on the saddle when I jumped down would jerk it up painfully, but I survived. One of the barn owner's sons took pictures, so if they turn out, after she has sent them to me, I'll try to post at least one.

In spite of waking up to snow, the sun came out, the snow melted quickly, and it was a lovely day to try riding again. Just when I was wondering if I'd ever get back on a horse!

Sitting down, facing forward.
Congratulations on a successfully ride, Sandy! I'm betting Penny was nervous because you were but once you got your confidence, she sensed that as well and did what she does best for you.

It's up to 60 outside and I'm just taking a break for pizza, white pie with tomato, broccoli and garlic, then back to raking some more. I keep getting slowed down by dandelion digging. Last year I spent two weeks on the major portion of our front yard. This year, there are a few errant ones popping up and I want them gone as well, before it gets too far out of hand again.

I live about 60 miles North of Chincoteague Virginia where Wallops Island is located and the whole family watched the Antares rocket launch from our backyard. I had a feeling we would be able to see the rocket go up since the news said it could be seen along most of the East Coast if there were no clouds. Just spectacular with the flames from the tail of the rocket to the plumes of smoke and then we could track it for about two minutes as it raced across the sky into orbit.

Have you ever gone to see the Chincoteague ponies? Those 5 kids might have fun there on Pony Penning Day. Even going when nothing much is happening can be exciting, seeing the ponies galloping along the beach on Assateague, which can be reached by a bridge.
