LOL, can you imagine having a 30lb box of the stuff! I used to think a couple ounces was a lot. :)

They bring it to the line on a pallet of 6 boxes. .. so roughly 180lbs. Some use cotton but its not processed and you can see what looks to be seeds so I wouldn't try that. Half tempted to try rayon though

howdy - and welcome

the 'long cotton' that comes from Sally's is actually rayon (called cellucotton - 100% rayon fiber)... you can actually get the pads from Sephora - called Koh Gen Do - about $14 for a pack of 60 pads (or online from Sephora, or through amazon also)

personally, I like Cotton Bacon for my drippers, though I am in the process of testing rayon also, heard a lot of good feedback about it... but I use Koh Gen Do pads for all my rebuildable tanks

hope this helps!
I use Koh Gen Do all the time. Love that stuff. This big bag feels like it's infinite when trying tons of builds lol.

I Wonder if that's the same rayon they use in packaging in pill bottles. If so Im set! Lol I'm a machine operator and see several 30lb boxes of that almost daily

Grab a piece and burn it. Just make sure it burns and doesn't shrink/melt. I think it should smell woody and leave some light grey ash.

The pads you are referring to are probably Japanese cotton pads (Muji and Koh Gen Do come to mind).
The long cotton can be one of many things, however, you may actually be referring to Rayon.
I personally prefer Rayon. It tends to give a more in-your-face flavor, whereas Japanese cotton gives you more of a "pure" flavor.

Cotton Bacon all the way. I tried KGD, but I think after cutting a strip from a pad, you're putting a square peg (KGD)in a round hole (coil). Just doesn't seem right to me.
I know it seems odd, but from a physics standpoint, cotton works the same regardless of its shape.
How much cotton do u use ? I like clods do I use a lot or little
General rule of thumb is use enough cotton to create a little bit of drag when pulling it into the coil. Too much, it will choke itself off, too little and you won't get good contact on the entire ID of the coil (which really isn't all that bad) and you won't maximize the amount of e-liquid in the coil area.
It really takes a little practice, but it eventually becomes second nature.

+1 on the bacon here. I use the KGD pads I get free once in a while, but the bacon is my preferred wicking medium. The pads are easier in a dualy coil build to get the same amount of wick on both sides. Just cut a strip, then cut in in half. But the bacon wicks faster, holds more juice, and lasts longer IMHO. Once you get used to it it's pretty easy.
