LOL before you're finished researching you'll need a sense of humour. 510 is the type of thread that the delivery system connects to the battery. As for Nic juice there are plenty of great vendors in Canada with quality juice especially out West. Here's a very reputable vendor with great prices, quality and treats all his customers as if they were friends. Although most stuff in his Clearance Area is Sold Out he's got great prices there. Problem is he doesn't sell any PVs.
JUGHEADS.co We've Got the Vapors !
I'll post some stuff to get you acquainted with the terminology.

Here's dictionary of terms:
E-Cig Glossary. Definitions, abbreviations, and meanings. | eCigology
And more info:
The pros of dripping are greater TH and vapor. The cons are you have to re drip/ fill the atty/ atomizer every few puffs. Most use attys to test their juices rather than contaminate a cartomizer with juice they may not like.
There are 3 diff ways of filling cartomizers:
- tilt carto at 45 degree angle and drip
- condom fill
- syringe fill-
The diff delivery systems for holding and/or delivering the juice are:
atomizers- has a metal wick onto which the juice is dripped.
atomizers + cartridge- cartridge holds the juice which drips onto the atomizer.
cartomizers= basically an atomizer and cartridge in one piece- has stuffing to absorb and hold juice.
cartomizers (or similar device) + tank- has stuffing to absorb and hold juice and the cartos have a hole in them with a tank around them supplying the juice to the carto. Some love them while others complain of leaks and/ or poor delivery. Definitely a learning curve and the PG/ VG ratio is very important.
clearomizers- has stuffing to absorb and hold juice and has an atomizer built in, Can be rebuilt/ re-stuffed.
Cartomizers are the most popular it seems and a cartomizer will last most people about 1-2 weeks. Boges are a quality carto. You can also buy larger cartos but make absolute sure your PV can handle them. I use large cartos and a fill, with heavy vaping, lasts me about 5 hours before refill. I could prolly go longer but the worst thing you can do to a carto is run them dry and burn the stuffing as you will have a burnt taste and have to throw it out. My recommendation would be to use the Boge Cartomizers and then go from there.
In regards to juices it's best to order sampler packs because there will be many juices you LOVE and many you HATE. Wait for sales OR use discount codes and/ or coupons. Some sites will offer 10- 25% off. Also to make sure you're not ripped off I would highly recommend you use one of the ECF listed Vendors. They operate under a strict code of ethics and if they do not provide good service and/ or product members will call them out.
Riva and eGo are good reasonably priced PVs. Problem is up here in Canada they are more expensive.

Just 2 more posts wait an hour and you can post in the Cdn Forum. Here's a reputable U.S. vendor with a 20% discount (click on "discount codes" if you order)
E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings
Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits
It is overwhelming but once you focus on a certain style it becomes very simple.

Awesome, thank you for your help! I'm going to have to get my researching in fast if I want to get that gift in the next 2 days. Haha.

LOL some that are impatient just fill a bunch/5 of cartomizers up at once- takes maybe 5 minutes- and he should be good for the day. After he's used to cartomizers he can upgrade to a tank; an accessory that you can buy ranging in price from $10.00- $50.00. A tank usually lasts the entire day.The one suggestion I would make is make sure you purchase the larger size battery Starter Kits.
Hey it's a good thing you're doing for him but he has to be game. If he a tinkering type of guy he'll prolly enjoy vaping.

Ahh, so the eGo's are good... I'm just worried my Dad will think it's too much work and give up. I need something that's ALMOST as easy as just lighting up a cigarette. It's all about ease of use for him. If it isn't easy, then he will just go back to smoking. I definitely didn't get my patient side from him. LOL.

You're very welcome and at age 60 I wish someone had come along with this suggestion yrs ago. I smoked 1 PAD very strong analogs- so strong most would go without rather than smoke one of mine :D
I started on 36 mg and after 3 months am now down to 20 mg. After New Years I'll be down to 15 mg. I vape 10 mg in the evening as the 20 mg was interfering with my sleep. Unfortunately I can't say EXACTLY what would do it for your Dad so I would buy 18 and 24 mg. He could also mix these 2 to get 21 mg. If too strong he could dilute with a PG and VG mixture- a very simple process.
Pg= TH, Lung Hit and enhances flavor
VG= Vapor
Nicotine= TH, Lung Hit and our need for nicotine.
General mixtures from vendors are 70/ 30 PG/ VG or 80/ 20 PG/ VG. VG is very thick whereas PG is akin to water. If you purchase PG and VG you can get VG at the Pharmacy in the band aids section. PG is special order at the pharmacy- take a non allergenic soap recipe and tell them you need the PG for soap. Make sure they are both USP.
It's very important he drink lottsa water. The vapor comes from our bodies and not the juice. The PG and more so the VG "extract/ trap moisture and that's how we get the vapor. I drink 2 large glasses in the a.m. and about 1 1/2 liters per day. If he drinks more than 4 cups java that will also bring on dehydration. I had to cut my java down from 10+ cups and that's a good thing. I actually now enjoy water prolly cuz for the first time I can taste it :D
I'm glad I signed up and that people such as yourself are so willing to help!
Someone saved my life and I/ we just want to do the same for others.

How many MG's would you suggest to be suitable? 24 for a reasonably heavy smoker?

Once again, I really appreciate your help. I'm glad I signed up and that people such as yourself are so willing to help!

There are vapers here that: quit at age 70+, some that smoked 5 PAD, some that have COPD. The stories here are remarkable and inspiring and if he has even the smallest desire to quit than I believe he'll be successful. He's tried other aids so it seems the first most difficult step is already done. If there's any questions or anything else you need feel free to pm me and I'll get what you need. There are a bazillion Ecig videos out there and seeing is much easier than reading IMO. Take care and I wish you and your family the Very Best of Luck and.....

Merry Christmas

I'm learning so much! My Dad is 64 and I'm trying to save his life. Plus, the patch and all those smoking aids aren't working, so it doesn't hurt to try this. Like you say, TH and lung hit + the nicotine are important for a smoker... so perhaps if he gets that, he'll be satisfied. Here's hoping!

Hi broadcastguy, welcome to ECF! Kudos to you for trying to help your dad along!! Great news for you (and your Dad) ~ the vancouver area has one of the largest vaping communities west of Toronto so you're in a great place. There are regular meet events (usually in a local bar/pub) where the local vapers gather together and share tips, help newcomers trouble shoot, and also trade eliquids and devices. These meets usually happen once a month or so. The last one (just last week I think) was attended by about 50 guests -- all friendly folk more than happy to help out a 'newbie' and point him/her in the right direction.

Get your post count up and then come on over to the Canada forum and introduce yourself there. We're more than happy to help you out!

Hey Brodcast a warm welcome to the Ecf, i started out with 18 and was a 2 pad for nearly 40 years now going down to 11 mg.
Ego brand was many a choice for members on the forum including me a simple device with a 1000mah batt in a rotation of 3.
I since moved on to a mod , my wife uses her ego and its her only device she uses .
Best Luck. :)

You guys are all great! Everyone has been so helpful and I hope that I am able to make a reasonably quick decision for my Dad's Christmas Gift. I really am concerned and this, I feel, is the answer.

To everyone that has been so awesome. Merry Christmas to you and your family! I very much appreciate all of your insight and guidance.
