My first kit was an underperforming cig-a-like. I wasn't attracted to it for appearance. It was the only thing the shop I bought it at had. I probably would have bought something bigger if it was available. I have one thing to say about that kit. I HATED IT!!! The only good thing I can say is that it was enough for me to believe there was some potential.

That said, some people do need them.

As for the choking on a mod, that's not usually the mod that does it. It that they don't hit it right. If you pull directly into your lungs, you're going to choke and that's what usually does it.

Chalk up another here who started out with an auto-battery, mediocre, overpriced (but not as badly as some I've read about), cig-alike, pre-filled with not-so-great liquid. Just good enough to point out the potential. Even though I've moved on to bigger and better, I won't deny there is something insidiously "right" about the size and shape of a cigarette. To me, it's still the delivery device against which all others must be compared. And I suspect that if somebody came out with a cigarette-identical PV with an excellent auto-battery, decent voltage (maybe VV like the eGo Twist, even at some cost of battery life), and excellent juice delivery, it would find an audience and not just with new vapers. As far as I've seen, a few devices are kind of close to that, but not really there.

Totally agrees with JENerationX. The minis are what got me to quit analogs. Without them I'm sure I'd still be a smoker today.

Atty, I was almost going to agree with you too. If I could have found an analog lookalike with the specs you suggested then I probably would have been content and just kept on being a fake smoker. But, I don't want to have ANY association with the stinkies. I want don't want that form factor or the taste of tobacco or any of the stigma related to cigarettes.

My vaping started with the Mistic kits, and if they were not so readily available, perhaps I wouldnt have began this journey. They are over priced, inconvenient, and unreliable, but they fill a niche in the market for sure. Once you get steady vaping, you learn you need a more adequate device real quick when you find yourself sitting at the pub with dead batteries. It sorts itself out really.

Voltage on an 808 is higher than an Ego. Of course the final vape depends on carto and juice choice, but all things being equal, you'll get a better vape from an 808 than you would from an Ego.

Good to know, thank you.

Now I just have to decide if I should get Volt or unbranded.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I started with, what I call now, a "micro" kit. It worked but ran out of liquid and power far too quickly which lead me to the Volt. The 78mm batteries last about 1/3 of the day and I have four so that's not problem. The cartos are very convenient, especially the XLs that hold 1.5ml. I've graduated up to an X2 with clearos, but to be honest, it just isn't practical if your hands are busy, too heavy to hold solidly with the lips and vape effectively (dropped on in a pot of marinara sauce the other day - no serious damage though). The form factor of a conventional cigarette is the best form factor, but the taste and vapor output of a bigger or custom unit is also the best. Everything in life is a compromise and the same is true here. As I said in another thread, I don't want to walk around all day with a gadget that looks like the relief valve for a high pressure steam vessel that I'm constantly fooling with to "optimize", I just want a way to satisy my nicotine, manual motions and oral fixations. Bottom line is that everybody and every body is different. I am patiently waiting for SI to release their CE3s and I think that will provide the best of both worlds, to one degree or another.

I have unbranded, but recently got a Volt battery, just because I wanted to check, and also I liked the pink color lol. Exactly the same thing, although the Volt one is prettier :).

I have never used a cigalike, nor an automatic. I think they have a valid place, to attract smokers to being NotSmokers. Smoking is a complex addiction, the form factor is part of it for many.

Beyond that? Not so much. No matter what the color of the LED< I don't want to even look like I am smoking a cigarette.

Exactly what I was going to say, but worded much better than what I was going to write.

Well, just because I can't keep my mouth shut (or is that fingers shut?)...

Form factor is a convenience thing to me. I also miss it. I keep a 510 auto around for a vape every month or so. lol. Mostly because it's a "left over" from newbie days. However, there are plenty of people that have only used cigalikes and vape just fine.

I don't give a rat's behind what other people think I am doing. Don't care. Nada. I'm not doing it for them anyway. Those worried about it could just try a black/blue/green/red e-cig. lol. It's the FORM FACTOR dang it! FORM! :)

I vape a heavy two battery vv 3xAA box mod most of the time. Fits in my pocket and doesn't roll. Lasts most of the day. I suppose I burn off a few more calories lugging it around...

If they had 5v (or vv) super-mini's that lasted most of the day I'd be all over it. Don't even care what someone else thinks I am doing... and it's obvious it's an e-cig anyway (doesn't burn down, no ash, no stink, current one is all black with a BLUE tip). How people think vaping a mod is somehow "cooler" or "Helps the cause" or "is not confused with smoking" is beyond me. But if, given the choice, you want to lug around a bulky mod... go ahead. More "power/voltage" to you. The cool thing about e-cigs is there is a lot of variety.

There are all different types of smokers so it makes sense that there be different types of vaping models. Some people only need a light vapor feel and others require more substantial models that provide more consistency and less hassle.

Comments that larger models than cig look-a-likes makes you look desperate or that 3.7 volt vaping is all anyone should need, is self-absorbed and demonstrates a significant lack of understanding and experience in the vaping community.

I have to admit that when I switched from that detested first kit to my first ego, I became a big batt zealot. To the point that I would belittle someone for wanting a small batt. However, I came to realize that the little batts do fill a need some people have. I REALLY hate them but, my preferences are just my preferences. I learned my lesson and I don't do that anymore.

That's why I pointed out that there is a need for all different sized models as everyone is different. The mid-sized to larger models in general do perform better than the mini's. But there are light vapers who do not need the advantages of a better battery model and a mini works fine for them, which makes sense. And then there are the few who are so concerned about their appearance to others that a cig look a like is all they will use in public. Each to his own.

I heartily concur. Though I started out on Ego, I had done considerable research prior to plunking down the money. I was a 55 year long smoker, the last 20 years at 2 cartons a week. I felt I would need more than a small lookalike.

Now I use all VV or kicked units at home, and depending on where I am going, sometimes take them with me. For shopping or dinner out I still carry an Ego C, no one seems to notice I'm using it.

I get what I need and there's no huhu in public. Works for me.

YMMV

I had somewhat of a revelation on the way to work tonight about the need for cig-a-likes. I always thought the we used them at first as they are the same size as a real cig and this in turn makes the change easier to deal with, but they quickly seam to be a weak device.
But now, after seeing a friend choke on my new VV device I now think we need the cig-a-like also for people to get used to vaping (we must vape differently to smoking)

I have to say, I'm a newb, starting with Blu, and I have already ordered a eGo setup, but I really like the cig-a-like Blu, I like the way it feels, and the size is so easy to tote around. I will probably change my mind in a few months, but for starters it's been easier to deal with (maybe mentally-lol)

I almost forgot Cyrene',

I even think i still have my pretty colored 'bloogs', i actually really liked those, after trying an ECHO, IGO, GOGO, and everything else that ended with 'GO', i liked the bloog the best, there was no fiddling with those, they were what they were, you filled and vaped. very simple and a good looking little stick'...thanks for reminding about the blu and bloog. heh!
