if i didn't like my profession so much i would load up a u-haul with about 50 cases of reds and sell em for cheap on the street. I can still get cartons for under $40 in KY.

who is going to enforce cigarette bootlegging? that's nothing but cash to be made right there.

my guess is that organized crime will begin to supply consumers, how can hey pass up an opportunity like this?

Organized crime is already rampant in cig sales here. They are shutting down a major source of bootleg smokes beginning Sept. 1st.

Indian Reservations will no longer be able to buy bulk amounts of smokes for sale to non-natives. They will be rationed to an amount the government feels will supply the Indians tax-free tobacco ONLY for their use. NY is also in the process of lawsuits aimed at shutting down cig manufacturers selling to wholesalers who in turn sell to non-existent native stores. These are the smokes that end up on the street for $5 a pack.

I agree K9 this state has become a joke and the politicians an even bigger one. This state is about making the rich richer and the poor poorer. They could care less about anything but themselves and the cost of living here is horrendous to say the least. Land and school tax is unbelievable and more then mortgages now!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if revenues are down because so many New Yorkers switched.

Vocalek, tax and spend has been going on here for a LONG time. Revenue isn't really down so much as spending keeps going up.

Did the N.Y ecig ban bill die? It says so in the General Discussion forum, but I don't see an article or reference.

v1John, I don't think it's dead, just on the back burner until they work out the budget stuff. It might take until the next session, but I think it will come back up. Check the gov't site to see if the bill is moving.

people always question were the monies are going, ask your building dept or the tax assement people how many tax free parcels are in your town or county,in mine which is in sullivan co,35% that means we have to pay for this, these are the same people that get 3 out of 5 section 8 housing subsidies, and who pays for that we do,this is the poster child for social welfare newyork,i know this has nothing to do with ecigs, but the question was ask this is my opinion

I saw that on the news tonight. It also mentioned that the government is really cracking down on marketing to children with regard to candy flavors and cigs labeled mild and light.

It's a shame that the law won't allow an ad on a computerized freeway billboard crawl that says, "Don't like $11 cigarettes? Go to www.<insert supplier>.com".

you cant really crap on section 8 housing in ny, New york as it stands is screwed in terms on proper housing prices. They are quite litirally trying to our price everyone who is not rolling in cash out of the city and the surrounding areas.

1br appartment in brooklyn goes for 1200 - 1500 dollars a month. You need to make 18 dollars an hour minimum to do ok. most jobes out there that are not corperate or union pay tops 12 dollars an hour in the city.

Then you have the other issue of abuse victims, wife gets beat up husband gets locked up or whatever. This girl has no skills or work history. Even if you train her she is not going to make 18+ dollars an hour for a while.

The program is there to keep people alive and prevents some of the people on it from having to do bad things to survive. god help you if your only making minimum wage here in ny.

Also i believe section 8 is not state its federal, the money is not related to your state as its funded by the fed with local organizations managing the distribution of funds allotted to that area.
