Hey ECF!,

Ok so i purchased two sets of Clapton wire, first set is Kanthal 26g+30g, second is 316 Stainless Steel 26g+30g. I've never tried clapton's, so i went the easy route and bought some pre-made wire.

I made the Kanthal clapton's, dual coils on a 3mm bit for my Kennedy 22 Competition rda with the Demon cap. I haven't tried the SS ones yet; I'm using 70vg / 30pg e-juice.

First attempt: I did 6 wrap duals at 0.40 ohms. I turned my Sigeli 150 up to 85 Watts, which gave me close to 6.0v's. Very tiny clouds, little to no flavor and wicking wasn't blocking any air holes. (Clapton hype completely disappointed me) Also the coils were about 1mm away from the bottom air holes.

Question 1: How do i fix this, what suggestions do you guys have for me that may revive my excitement to try these crazy coils again?

Question 2: Out of the RDA's i have listed below, should i use one of those instead of this Kennedy 22 to get more enjoyment out of the clapton's?
  1. Aeolus Lite RDA
  2. Tobeco Velocity RDA
  3. Royal Hunter Mini RDA
  4. Mutation X v2 and v4 RDAs

One sudjestion, with the dual coils try taking a wrap or 2 off.

Can't say much as I'm in the same situation as you, just recieved my clapton wire yesterday and setup a dual also. I figured the extra mass would require more power to ramp up. Normally I run dual 28g coils at .6 resistance with 7 wraps a coil, I wrapped these claptons (28g core, 32wrap) the same diamter and made it 6 wrapps instead, really slow heat time ect, just took them out and removed a wrap off each coil. Better but still not what I expected.

Feel like I need a mod that has more power to properly heat the huge mass of coil.

Wicking is very important with claptons. Try using less then you would for a normal coil. Too much and it chokes the juice from getting on/to the wire, leading to poor vapor. They are definitely more finicky about just the right amount.

Try doing a wet burn with juice on it, when the wicking is right, it`ll pop once or twice and then start pluming outward`s like a normal coil. If it sputters and spits, it may be too much wick, or maybe too little. They are a PITA, last night I re wicked a RDA twice to get it right.

wow this makes a lot of sense, i noticed right away that it was spitting back like crazy and tossing the ejuice all over, (burned my hand), i wicked it like i would a normal 6 wrap 24gauge wire, tight but not to tight where i couldnt move it back and forth. So i will try less when i get home.

Seen a video around about a special clapton build in a lowpro which is what enticed me to buy the wire and atty. The wire was recieved early :( but just wanted to play with and try a regular ol dual coil.

Seems to work alot better with very minimal wicking. Still need a more powerful mod tho. 40w is all I got to work with :/

After owning the below mods, mechs, tanks etc. i'd suggest the Wismec Rx200, $50 and best Regulated / TC Mod i own and my favorite besides my trusty IPVD2 for my Uwell Crown Tank for those long commutes to work.

As a hobbiest I own the IPV3, IPV4, IPVD2, Sigeli 150, Sigeli 150 TC, Wismec RX200, Wismec DNA200, also own a Noisy Cricket for Mechs, and a Dimitri Box Mod, and finally the Cherry Bomber Mech too.

Lol my wife wants to kill me, I'm just now using RDAs again because last month i bought every Sub Ohm Tank on the market (the ones worth a damn) lol

Some day soon after I get a new job :/ I do plan on getting the rx200 and dedicated battery charger ect.

Currently on the hunt for an artery nugget mod on sale anywhere to try tc. I have ss clapton wire for that too waiting. - as it looks, I'm probably going to have to stick to single coil claptons till I get that rx200 tho.

...of Eric Clapton, playing a guitar, which uses strings that look like this:

Funny how that works, yeah? I bet he totally ripped it off from that Chip Flippers guy.

Really makes me wonder what would happen wrapping a coil out of guitar strings (and I play guitar too) but i have a funny feeling it might not be very enjoyable.

You might be able to use the nickel-plated steel ones in temp mode in something like a DNA200 that lets you set your own temperature curve, if you found the right curve. I'd steer clear of whatever "phosphor bronze" means, and the wound strings (the ones that look like Claptons) are often coated in some sort of plastic to reduce finger noises on the string, so you probably don't want to use those, either, no matter what they're made of. All in all its a cute idea, but I wouldn't actually try it.

How fast is the ramp up to glowing without a wick @ 80w ?
Are both glowing evenly ?

So i tried the 316 Stainless Steel Clapton's last night, had a really nice 6 wrap on a 3mm bit and it came out to 0.21, set it as new coil on the Wismec RX200 and put it at 70 watts, 400 F., the mod and my Aeolus Lite RDA got hot! and almost immediately burnt the cotton.

So far my first experience with Clapton's is complete and utter crap. So much so that i went back to my normal build to enjoy vaping last night, which is 0.3 ohms at 90 watts, dual twisted 26 gauge Kanthal on my Tobeco Velocity RDA with a nice Scottish Roll wicking (20+ hits without a dry hit).

I'm going to try Clapton's 2 more times of the Kanthal and 316 SS and if i can't find an enjoyable vape, i will be sticking to my normal, at least i can say i tried.

Ramp up time has maybe a 1 second delay, both glow evenly.

Change it to .3 - .23 ohm and gently strum the coils with a small Flathead to get an .5 sec even glow, from there your going to have to adjust your airflow to accommodate the heat, @ 80 - 100 watts the two post decks (velocity style), should be a fog machine with 2 - 3 sec pulls, are you using ... pad cotton ?
