Cleaning LR atomizers

My view on cleaning atomisers is: don't! Use em till they stop delivering and then bin 'em... I have never found cleaning atties lengthens their their lifespan.
LR attys (and stock ones used at 5 volts) normally don't need cleaning because they burn off residues more efficiently than stock attys @ 3.7 volts. I've never cleaned an LR atty (except as outlined below) and they all still work like Day 2 - and this is using some sludgy DIY VG liquids with plenty of oils in like peppermint.
Mind you there have been some recipe disasters and purchase mistakes that meant an atty here and there had to be cleaned. I still have nightmares about the tobacco flavor with an overpowering vomit-inducing rose perfume I bought in error... A quick 30-second soak & swish in rum, blow out and repeat, solves that. No need to even let it dry out, you can use it again within 2 minutes.

with LRs definitely is tricky. Roly's and Dons suggestions are great especially when your purpose is to do a flavor switch from a "bad" one to one you prefer. As for the suggestion to bin them when the atty isn't performing any more is for the most part right, there really isn't a guaranteed way to prolong the life of an atty, But I would say prior to ditching them do I final desperate effort to squeeze a few more vapes out of it.
Try "Dry Burning", though doesn't necessarily work all the time, works well if your atty's performance is effected by being gunked up with think juice build up.
I have salvaged a few (not all ) LR's by doing this method, but I only try this when the atty really doesn't produce much vape at all (next to none) no matter how hard I try.
