Cleaning with acetone

It's the right stuff. But it would be a pretty expensive way to buy it. You can buy acetone in the paint section of the hardware store, like Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.
Sometimes you can find the nail polish remover that is strait acetone, I have found it in the Dollar store like that. Other times the acetone is diluted and has scent and moisturizers added, those polish removers are not good for using as a solvent.
Just be Careful when you use Acetone around "Plastics", Rubber, or Paint. Because Acetone can Breakdown some Synthetic products. And can Remove Paint and or Wood Finishes.
And Don't get it in your Eyes.
Thanks smacuser. I'm more worried bout the kids getting their hands on my nicotine. I'm not worried about my bleach, weed killer, detergent, or acetone. We have common sense after all. Real talk, I don't have kids lucky for me (or them).

Old thread because I need to ask a question. Do I really need gloves if I'm using acetone to clean my SS mech mod. Or if I'm careful is it ok, considering its nail polish remover I would have thought its safe-ish? Also is acetone safe for the plastic/delron on the switch part of the mod?

The guy from Gus mods recommended acetone when I need to clean the mods though. How would I do this then?
It's SS and has nice engravings but I've had it for 6months and haven't cleaned it yet cos I don't wanna ruin it. Do you know how? Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't use acetone. Vinegar is a pretty good "cleanser" and won't do nasty things to your body. Just make sure you wipe in the direction of the "grain" and not across the grain.
I would never use acetone for cleaning my mods. Too reactive. May damage plastics, rubber. Ethyl or isopropyl alcohols are much better.
What did you get on it that would require the level of cleaning that acetone is needed?
Since e-liquid is water soluble, you should be able to use a much less caustic compound.

Can I just use standard malt vinegar or rubbing alcohol then?
Any particular method or just kitchen wipes for the body and a cue tip/cotton swab for the intricate bits?

Nah I just asked Kostas. The actual Greek guy from Gus mods and he told me to use acetone.
Save the malt vinegar for the chips. Plain ol' white vinegar works well as will rubbing alcohol.
Personally, I'd use some deionized water with a drop of liquid dish soap, or as Retired1 said - vinegar. Plain white.
Great cheers guys. I'll get on it now. Do I need to dilute the vinegar or soak the mod? Rinse afterward with water?
