Hi there folks. Long time lurker, first time poster here looking for some help choosing a clearomizer. I've been looking at the VPX tanks they carry over at NHaler and was wondering how they might compare to something like a MAP tank or a 510XL rev.5 clearomizer. I'm mainly looking for ease of maintenance, lack of leaks and longevity. I'm also wondering what Ohm rating I should choose for my setup.

My gear so far:
Totally Wicked Tornado tank
LR atomizers
USB pass-through batteries
Backwoods Brew Liquids

So far the setup is pretty convenient with the tank system, but I get the feeling that I might be missing out on some of the flavor a clearomizer could deliver. Any suggestions and info will be greatly appreciated. :D

I have no experience with the tanks, I do the 3ml BD Syringe mod on the Clearos and it works great for me. For you Ohm question on a Tornado, either the 2.4-2.6 or 2.6-2.8 ohm. Between them will be preference the lower will be a little warmer and the CE2s are a little warmer anyway due to the placement of the coil being up top.

I'm new to the concept of a 'clearomizer'. What is this, and how does it beat a regular atomizer? DOES it beat an atomizer? I direct drip, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for...

The Clearomizer is a CE2 Cartomizer with a clear tube so like any carto it will hold more liquid than a atomizer + cart. Both Steel and Clear CE2s don't use filler to hold the liquid, they uses wicks to pull the liquid up to the atomizer. They are the closest thing to dripping I've found in a cartomizer but in most cases will need some fiddling to get them performing optimally. If you want to try them and don't care about seeing your juice then get the steel ones, the tubes are much more durable than the clear ones.

 haha love the moniker....'Big Trouble in Little China' is an awesome and funny classic...

another option to try is a dual coil carto...there are black, stainless AND clearo versions as well.. atm I have a bunch of MadVapes DC clearo's, the ones i've been using have poly stuffing like that used in boge carto's... so far no breakage, no leaks, good vapor and flavor production, good throat hit...it's been a week trying them out and so far I'm having good luck with them...

Thanks for the info Nomoreash. I've read about the syringe mod but I don't know if I'm handy enough to pull it off. I'll take a look at the steel ones. With the steel ones, or other cartomizers you can't look into, do you tell when to refill just based on the flavor it's giving off?

Replacing the tube with a syringe is no problem, you just need something to cut the syringe with, 2 cuts and you're done and 1 cut tube can be used over and over.

For the ones you can't see yes, just like carts you top them off when flavor or vapor production starts to fade. With filler cartos try not to let it get to the point of the burn taste as that's very hard to get out of a filler carto once it sits in.

Yeah, it's one of my favorite movies. So many one-liners. I'll try out those DC cartomizers the next time I gear up. They're pretty inexpensive, so why not? Thanks for the tip.

You need to check the Liguinator here.Vaporescence - eCigarettes, Accessories, US Made eLiquids I'm currently using a tank I made with an Mega 808 in it and it rocks. You can put any carto in it but it comes with a ce2 I think.

After doing a little more research on tanks I came across this one. It seems like the easiest one to work with because of the regular slotted carto inside. I'll probably try this one out first. I also took a look at the Torpedo Tanks in the cartomizer review section, and if the Liquinator works out I might invest in one of those. The stainless steel end caps on the Torpedo Tanks are very cool.

I didn't realize it was that easy. Would a dremel style tool be the best option for the cuts or would a utility knife be better?

I use a Dremel with a std cut off wheel, zips through them no problem. I then apply the end to the face of the wheel to smooth them off. Far easier and neater than pipe cutters which crush the tube or knives. :thumb:
