Hey @Eryger!

Each and every one of us is different. Some critical times are 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months (get where I'm going?)

I guess my question for you is, what was it about the evening that "really made you want to smoke"? What was your trigger? Perhaps evaluating that might help you figure out how to cope next time the "urge" strikes.

I was a dual-user for about a month (the final time I "tried" vaping.) Couple of less-than-successful attempts as far back as 2010. But, I was able to get over the hump about 20 months ago. Smoking is a habit, and many things trigger "habits". Maybe find that thing that causes the urge - try to avoid it if you can. Each cigarette you DON'T smoke is its own victory!

Hang in there. Be patient with yourself. You'll get there :)

Hey. That's a bit harsh. It takes some longer than others and clearly fiddlefingers is trying. See her other posts - issues with PG etc can set anyone back. I don't think guilt tripping is the way to get her to make the leap. I know you mean well, and not being argumentative, I just know if this is how I'd been welcomed in this forum I would not have used it as much and it's been so Critical.
Sorry didn't seem that harsh when I wrote it.:( Was just trying to be helpful in MY own way/:wub::hubba::hubba::thumbs:

to those who mentioned triggers. Yes, I really think that the nasty smell of old smoke triggered my 'attack' last night (we were in an empty airconditioned bar - you know how they can reek). Bizarre. I will try something new next week where ther will be non-stop dinners, cocktail parties and bar-hoppingdue to a big conference in town. Each time I feel the urge coming up I will focus on the most attractive non-smoking man in the room and remind myself that he would be unlikely to be even remotely interested if I reek of ashtray. How's that for a single girl's coping mechanism? ;-)

I'm went about it a little different, work said I couldn't smoke there anymore so I picked up vaping again for the 4th time. After about a month I found the right juice and then one day I realized I hadn't smoked all day. So I figured I could go another and that has snowballed into 10 months. I've had 3 cigs since the first day, the first 2 tasted like I thought they would and just like I remembered. Those were within the first couple of months and I didn't want another after I was done. The last one was sometime in June and it was absolutely nasty and I didn't finish it.

I never really intended to quit so there was no pressure, that was the big difference this time. The other was I found some juice that I liked enough to use all the time instead of trying lots of things that I didn't really care for after a few hours.

After trying everything it seems like I'm allergic to pg but I'm not giving up yet. Keep going. I'm going to quit these horrid cigarettes one way or another. You are keeping me going. Don't give up.

@fiddldfingers;

Keep it up.

Some people do have problems with PG. Try to find a high VG ejuice.

I forgot something important in my original reply.

If vaping is not really satisfying the cravings; your nicotine level may bee on the low side tru going up to a higher level of Nic.

This is normal. Cigarettes have such a hold on us that it takes a very long time for the cravings to pass. Kudos to you for resisting the urge!

I have been vaping for many years now. Still when I am exposed to smokers, I really want to smoke. At this point I am able to get passed the urge and with time you will be able to do the same.

Hang in there and good luck!

Frankly I was an ardent addict. I think very few can come near. 40 years hand rolling about 20-30 grs of tobacco daily. (Before 40 years there are some years I was engaged ready ones too.)
In fact I did not intend to quit. I decided to try e-cig if it works I would have vape+smoke so this would help me to reduce the quantity I smoked. I loved smoking. It was an unchangeable rule that I loved most my morning tea + smoking ceremony.
I had accepted that my death reason would be smoking. I told "let the horse die from barley" This is a turkish proverb. I was smoking like a turk. (So I am a turk) :)

On the other hand with my first try I thought only "if this is that much effective why one should smoke?" The unique magic was It was a right liquid for me. right amount of nic right PG/VG rate.
Never looked back than 3 years now and I dont remember smoking and even if I am middle of a bunch of smokers I dont mind. (It smells bad though) Once I had to light my wife's cigarette by asking a guy for lighter... man it was gross.

I accept every one is different. But what is this fuss about years after cravings? I cant imagine.

Congrats! That is quite a milestone!

Nmackan: can I just say that you are such a sympathetic forum contributor. I always know when you pop up on a thread I'll feel encouraged. As my California friends would say "good vibes!" - people like you make this forum so valuable to us newbies.

I dual used for Two Years but, come this spring I'll be Four Years off the smokes.

The main thing is don't stop vaping even if you are mostly smoking for now.

I firmly believe that the contrast between how you feel vaping and how you feel smoking is what makes the difference and it is noticable even if you are dual using.

You'll get to the point when you realize you feel like crap after every cigarette but you feel better after every vape, even if it is only by a little bit.

Vaping will win out in the end.

And once you start to get all the toxins from smoking cleared out and you don't have those horrible cravings caused by all that other stuff they put in cigarettes, then you will really be on a roll.

Don't beat up on yourself and just stick with it.

My friend thank you very much.
All I want is to have more and more people succeed.
In the beginning I felt I had to warn people if the transition is that easy every one of them smokers should try.
They labeled me that "he is an e-cig seller" (Which I am not.) So I let them be. Only with forums when people needs support and encouragement, I try to help. Their success is our success.

Close to three years of vaping but I let my workers smoke in my work truck. It does irritate me but I keep quiet. Some times the smoke is disgusting and other time it smells pretty good. Never do I think of even having a drag off one. I am a proud vaper. CHEERS!

People.. people.. you need to find motivation :) A decent vape can 100% substitute the physical part of the addiction, what's left is the mental part, that little voice in your head asking you why shouldn't you just light up a cigarette? One more can't be that bad, can it? The sad truth is that some distant threat of future health problems and possible death are just not enough for the human mind to be motivated, unless you're actually on the very edge of it, but then it's kinda too late.
You need to actively SEARCH for and FIND real CURRENT things that can motivate you. For example.. remember how hard it was to walk up the stairs? Out of breath? :) I bet you can do that easily now, and even more than that.. Try doing some sports, weren't you supposed to get in shape? You kept promising that to yourself :D Here's the chance!

The fact is that we like to hold onto things too much, like cigarettes for example.. Well guess what? you can use that to your advantage.. Once you find the activities / abilities that you couldn't do / didn't have while smoking.. you will want to hold on to those just as much as you once wanted to hold on to your cigarettes, in fact even more, since you already have the substitute for your cigarettes, but who's gonna play football with your kids? race your partner to the end of the sidewalk? No substitutes for those I guess..

For me it was easy.. I used to do sports before I started smoking, then spent a few years sitting in an office, where I picked up smoking... about 9 years later I find myself wanting to do some sports again, and I try, but it's hard when you're carrying a pack of cigarettes to your workouts so you can light one as soon as you're finished. Then I got introduced to vaping, hah! just what I needed.. the second my ego battery and t2 atomizer arrived I was a smoker no more :) First it was a bit strange and I was confused about it, but 2 days later when the carbon monoxide emptied from my system and I went back to the gym.. I was a whole new person.. and it has been getting better ever since! I feel like I'm 18 again :D And no amount of drinking at parties managed to break my will, I was happy with my little ego setup around my neck.. and even then I felt like I wouldn't go back to smoking even if they offered me the yearly profit of big tobacco :p

So yea, that happiness is what you need to find so open your eyes! :) and after you find it, staying off cigarettes won't even require the tiniest of efforts..

Cheers and good luck :)

For me it's being able to vape in personal spaces that I wouldn't/couldn't smoke in (house, new car ect). My wife even asks me to get more of certain juices she likes the smell of.

Been vaping for years and I still get out of the blue cravings. The smell of analogs is terrible to me, but I still want one from time to time. The cravings get easier to dismiss though. If you're using 24 then you're probably using an eGo style e-cig. You may want to consider bigger/more powerful gear. That really helps.

You might end up giving in and smoking a cigarette from time to time. That doesn't mean you've failed. It doesn't mean you're a bad person. Just don't give up vaping. You can do this!

I'm in kind of a unique situation here. My wife and I both smoked for 40 years or so. I quit last year when I went on a business trip and didn't want to take cigs with me - forced myself to vape only - and broke my habit. She, on the other hand, is still smoking. Believe it or not, her smoking doesn't bother me. For some reason, I have never really been able to smell her Salem Lights. And still can't unless she blows a cloud in my face. I do smell the smoke on her breath but not the exhaled smoke - weird. But she knows she needs to quit and she is still curious about my vaping a year later. She just hasn't gotten the motivation to quit yet.

other than this forum, the one thing that helped me quite was a stop smoking app on my phone. Not sure which one i had. I have changed phones and no longer need it. Every time i would get a craving i would look down at the dollars saved, and that would push me to keep going. I would also look at what stage my body was at. I know i am foolishly thinking, but i told myself i would have to start all over if i have the first smoke. It made making each little milestone that much better. here is one i just picked out of the thousands of android apps: Quit smoking - QuitNow! - Android Apps on Google Play
